Wait, whats this Life of Pi avatar shit?

I only ever change my avatar when I grow tired of it, or I find something better. I'm not going to change it for a day or two just to show support for something, even if it is something I care about deeply.

Well, it was sort of attacking the OP/thread. But I don't want to point fingers and assign blame in this situation - it could be viewed as mod-worthy and it seems it was.

Hmm, perhaps. But everyone already knows about gay marriage issues, whether they are fore it or against it (and an = sign is not going to change the opinion of someone who is against it). The only people I would imagine who aren't aware of it are people who are just entirely indifferent, and they're unlikely to be swayed either. So I still don't see how useful it would be.

It reminds me of those little campaigns to raise awareness of child abuse, like the world doesn't already know it exists.
That's true. But with something like the Life of Pi thing, not everyone knows, right?

For example, I'm about to inform someone...

I don't know the details but the effects folk on the film were underpaid. At least, that's what I think the deal is. You've seen the green avatars, right?

Well, seems overly strict but hey.

I change my picture for no man..or woman..or cause. I only do it if I really want a change in scenery.

Oh, never heard about it, but even though thats some fucked up shit, Babby would still be sitting next to all my posts.

I'm not allowed to changed my avatar.

It says so right here in my Escapist contract.
I signed a similar contract.

And then I turned around and violated it!

I regret nothing!

OT: I have been seeing this all over Facebook today. Not sure it will make a difference, but it is a nice sentiment.

I can't really say anyone should or shouldn't do it, but it does seem kind of silly to me.

It's pretty much useless. It may help raise awareness but it's a very forgettable way to campaign for a cause. I remember when there was that childhood abuse thing on FaceBook. I changed my profile pic admittedly, but it was moreso because I just wanted an excuse to have Norbit from The Angry Beavers as my profile pic for a while. And that ain't gonna stop child abuse.

This is relevant.

Saw a bunch of friends and my brother do the red equality picture on facebook. I simply posted that, while I'm okay with gay marriage, I liked my profile pic (me in a beard-hat) far too much to change it. I'm no activist, or any variation of the term. If I have opinions, I just say them, I don't feel the need to "wear" some kind of identifier.

Here, does this work?

I'm always changing the background anyway so who cares.

Edit: This is probably just a coincidence, but I think Google might be subliminally doing it as well.

You know what? this whole profile pic change doesn't make ANY sense whatsoever to anyone not in on it. Its just an equal sign. No one that didn't have any prior knowledge of the movement would have any idea what was going on. I'm all for equality, but at least make your cause recognizable.

OT: Nah, I don't change my avatar for anything such as movements for/against stuff. Why? Its not gonna do anything.

For support? Nah, not really. I used the Desert Bus avatar when that was going on a few years back. And for a while I switched occasionally, but I was told asked not to do so, since I became unrecognisable apparently ;) [sub] Hi, @Redlin5[/sub]

I do do seasonal changes on occasion, Halloween and Christmas last year at least.

This Vault101 business is the first time I've ever done such a thing, and it really only has relevance because of the nature of this community. I'd like to think that if I was banned, my heart would melt if I lurked and saw similar memorializing going on in my honor. I also just noticed that they didn't change her avatar to the "permabanned" one.

Never saw this equal sign, though I wouldn't know what it was if I didn't learn it in the OP here. Can't imagine that an equal sign would make a bigot have a change of heart.

I will no longer be changing my avatar for anything, especially not for support.

As for the whole Vault101 avatar thing, I'm in support of having her avatar changed to the perma-banned one. Just like everyone else who is perma-banned.

I could not give less of a shit if I tried, changing my facebook/twitter/escapist/whatever avatar wont do jack, im reminded of the picture of the doctor on his laptop saying "Comeon facebook, 40 more likes and i can save this little girl's life!"

Ok, you support something, good for you, now go out and do something about it, me, ill continue to be the electric mariachi over here.

I've flipped through a couple of threads just looking at avatars to find....anyone really who has done this and I can't find one person. Lots of dead Vault101 avatars so does that count?

All well, to the question at hand!

I have not and I will not ever do that. I've adjusted my avatar for March Mayhem but I would not adjust my guy for a cause. Frankly...there's nothing I care enough about to declare my love for it in that way. It's kind of like a digital bumper sticker; no one really cares and all you've done is hurt your re-sale value.

I'm not going to look down upon someone who does it but don't expect me to join in your parade.
Wait a minute....

Did I miss March Mayhem this year?!?!

Well I once changed it to a picture of Adam Yauch, MCA of the Beastie Boys, when he passed away in tribute to his life and musical career. When MM happened I also changed it to one with more MM spirit but alas, it did not come this year. I tend to change my avatar to show off something I like or something that's funny. Right now, it's a picture of Asuka from Neon Genesis Evangelion because I <3 Asuka.

The trick is to change it to another avatar just as awesome.
