Japanese cartoons often seem to have sexually ambiguous characters. The first one that comes to mind is Big Cheese from Samurai Pizza Cats. He has a very effeminate voice and quite often dresses in women's clothes and wears lipstick. I guess that's what made him hilarious, as he was supposedly the leader of the bad guys. Then you had Zoltar in G-Force who was technically a hermaphrodite. Very confusing when you're trying to keep track of things as a kid.
If anyone is awesome enough to watch Gurren Lagann, the mechanic that fixes the mechs has a very confusing sexual orientation. They drew him/her in order to make viewers wonder which gender he/she is. It's a huge joke throughout the entire series.

If a Western cartoon developer tried to do that in the states, their cartoon would proabably be labeled "immoral" and "evil"...it's kind of depressing. I find that an element like that enhances a show's quality immensely.

Also, when I was playing through Bioshock trying to get all the upgrades and achievements (I'm so ashamed!), my roommate asked a question I had never really thought about. Why aren't there any little Boys? What made them choose girls instead of boys to harvest Adam? Maybe they just couldn't get the boys to like the masculine scent of big daddies.

Haha, maybe they tried to create Little Boys, and Rosies were originally their guardians. But then they figured out that boys don't like the smell/look of muscular, manly women either :p

In regard to the Big Daddies, I don't think it's ever explicitly said that they are all male. They are attracted by the artificial pheromone the Big Daddies secrete and are conditioned at birth that the lumbering giants in diving suits are their friends. Also

When Jack undergoes the process of becoming a Big Daddy, he can't attract them until he looks, sounds and smells like one. It doesn't mention anything about gender (although Jack is male). Given Jack was genetically modified at birth he would physically already be up to Big Daddy standard
Of course. There's nothing stopping any female going through the same preocess. That's why I'm wondering about the name Rosie. Bouncer sounds like what he is. A big guy with a drill for an arm would make the best Bouncer's of all. But why Rosie? Unless they were women.
It's a good point that the Rosie Daddies may have been women, or at least mostly women.

Something I read a little while back said that the name Rosie (and the name of their weapon) was derived from Rosie the Riveter, a name given to the cultural icon (the woman on the old WW2 poster saying "We Can Do It!") and by extension the women who worked on the production of military weapons, etc in the US during the WWII era.

Although this may just be a name given to them based on just the building/repairing the actual Rosie's did and not their gender, judging from the fact that you can see a Rosie using its rivet gun as a sort of repair tool during the games introductory sequence.

You know Yoshi's other friend, the pink one? Yeah, he's a guy.

EDIT: Birdo, yeah that's his name. Yeah, anyway, Birdo is a male, so Yoshi is straight.

Leeron was never meant to be ambiguously gendered. Just massively massively camp and very gay indeed.

Also, not a patch on Bobby from Macross Frontier, who can go from as camp as Leeron to as badass as Kamina and back in the space of about four scenes, and throws a 400m long battleship around like a fighter.

That's funny Ninja. In my Fable game, I had two wives and a husband despite having being so evil that children flee'd from me and and plants died in my wake.

Good times. I was like Volgin from MGS3.

Originally Birdo was referred to as an extremely effeminate male - in the manual for SMB2 it's stated that he thinks he's a girl and wants to be called "Birdetta". Most subsequent games have referred to Birdo as female, but Birdo has always been male in Japanese versions.

What this means is that in America, Yoshi's a lesbian, whereas in Japan, she's straight.

In either case, they're both trannies

Actually Big Daddies have people in them. I guess you didn't pay no attention. The suits are fused with them.

Rosies have a rivet gun, a play on "Rosie the Riveter", in my opinion nothing more then a play on words. The little sisters call Big Daddies Bubbles, it doesn't mean they're girls it's just a pet name. They are, after all, little girls.

I know that. But when I said they were pretty much mindless machines, i didn't mean that literally. They have no other purpose in life than protecting the littles sisters, no free will of their own. No sexual desires, nothing. What they once were doesn't matter anymore. They are now a Big Daddie, a gender less brute, whose only purpose is to protect the sisters.

Seriously, topics like this are the reason I don't read these forums anymore.
Mmm, is that so? Really?

Because a cursory glance at your posting history shows that even though you've been here close on a year, the majority of your posts whilst you still 'read the forums' have been complaining about the site anyway. If you hate it so much for being so-called ban happy and elitist, no need to stick around. Or, you could just avoid the stuff you don't like, cause the bottom line is if look for faults, you will find them.

On Topic: Since it also ties in the with this weeks issue, I'm gonna say Dom from Gears of War isn't what he appears to be. The Award 'Dom-curious' is my main piece of evidence for this assumption.

Lucario's also getting this treatment, as he's being drawn more often as a she... Now match up his voice and you have "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" on your hands.
Isn't Lucario voiced by the guy who voiced Goku?

Some strange implications going on...

I see what you're saying, but we're not discussing sexual desires. Sexuality/gender.
And they're not called Bubbles, it's Bouncer. The Little Sister calls all of them Bubbles, even the Rosies.

As for the WW2 thing, it makes perfect sense. Now we have a mummy Dig Daddy, ad a daddy Big Daddy. As for there not being any little boys, I think it was explained, though I don't remember it.

So the green one with huge army boots is a girl, and the pink one is a guy?! This is ruining my image of the entire Yoshi race.

For the record... I'd still do Bridget. He's the Bill Kaulitz of video games.

Well, yes, but from observation Yoshi is far more masculine than Birdo could ever hope to be.

Yeah, but Pokemon already gives Pokemon genders, so that is void.

However, they also mention in-game that no Pokemon has ever been seen laying eggs.

So the Pokemon's sexuality is still somewhat ambiguous.

well that's idea is thrown out the window since some of the main story-line in gears of war 2 is where Dom is looking for his wife.

Yoshi, she is a lesbian.
My reasoning is as follows:

A) Yoshi lays eggs; therefore Yoshi must be female
B) Birdo has been described as Yoshi's girlfriend: therefore Yoshi is attracted to girls
C) From A) and B), Yoshi must be lesbian. Or at least bi.

Although this is pulled into question by D) Yoshi insisting that she is male and E) Birdo being described at various times as an extremely effeminate male and outright female.

D) is rather simple: Yoshi is a lier
E) Is also deceptively simple: Birdo was a man, underwent surgery, is now a woman.

As for other characters, Link is almost certainly gay.

1) Whenever he travels with anyone, it's with a girl (Apart from Minish Cap and Wind Waker; in both cases he is too young to do anything anyway), and the vast majority of his friends are girls (Zelda, Saria, Malon, Midna Navi, Tatl, Ruto, Romani, Cremia, Anju, Ilia and Telma off the top of my head) and yet he is still a virgin (to my knowledge)

2) Despite blatant advances from Malon, Ruto (both of whom offer to MARRY him), Ilia, Telma and Saria, he does not act on any feelings he may have, and in fact is frequently seen running in the opposite direction.

3) His attire.

Note that this is primarily referring to the adult Links of OoT and TP, although you can see homosexual (or at least gynophobic) tendencies in OoT Link's child form
To argue the link thing, why he continue to rescue her if he wasn't getting poon.

Also I don't think I'm ready for the underage Zelda sex scene.

Edit: Also he wears a skirt cause it's easier to take off.
