one of the topics where you get to feel like you stand out (me too)

Ill do one for now and give reasons

Slippy Toad (starfox)
- I honestly think this little guy is great, not a great pilot, hes a shit pilot, or shit in comparison to fox (and maybe falco) keeping in mind the fox is an unstoppable one arwing army leaving a trail of scrapped metal and monkey guts in the galaxy behind him. Slippy is primarily an engineering tech support guy who is apparently more useful scannin boss health, from the field rather then from some 'control room'. But I still dont see why his informed poor piloting skills are this big deal, he is a young inexperienced kid, who was invited to star fox because he went to high school with fox, he probably idolizes fox and it shows in the in game dialouge, maybe this is because I like to speculate backstories in my own way but I think its logical to think that fox was very confident and popular in school, and slippy was withdrawn, soft and possibly bullied, and thier friendship probably led to fox protecting him as a big brother would.Playing as fox leads me to feel very protective as slippy and I have not problem protecting my high school friend!

I don't *love* Ashley Graham but I don't hate her the way most people do either. They make it sound like escorting her is such a big deal when it really isn't, she's got to be one of the most competent NPCs to ever get escorted by the player. I don't like her character, but as an escort mission I'll love her.

Lets see here:

I really liked Cait Sith from Final Fantasy VII. Sure, he does backstab you at one point, but he makes up for it later on. Plus it's a cat wearing a crown riding on a giant moogle. How can you not love that?

Last time I played VII, he ended up becoming one of my main magic casters.

On a similar note, I've noticed a lot of hate towards Quina from FFIX.

Sure, s/he doesn't add a lot to the story, but I can't help but love him/her. S/he's funny, is actually quite insightful sometimes, and is very useful in battle once you got him/her the right blue magic spells like Big Guard, Angel's Snack, Frog Drop, ect.

captcha: cream and sugar.

Something tells me Quina is going to want more than that captcha.

Well, I like Claptrap and Tiny Tina. Not "everyone" hates them but a fair amount do.

Loads of people seem to hate Nathan Drake for some reason, I think he's awesome though. I also don't hate the Ultramarines, even if the Imperial Fists are better in every single way :p

Tingle (Legend of Zelda)

He's just so overly and unapologetically gay that he becomes totally awesome.

Also this.

People who complain about Ashley as an escort character simply hate escort mission by definition, no matter how good they are, or they just suck at the game.

I really liked Moira in Fallout 3. I think that was her name anyway, the spacey girl who writes a survival guide. I've heard a lot of people find her annoying but I like her. The survival guide quests were hands down the most interesting part of the entire game. I even ended one of my character runs early because I felt like she would be fine living in Megaton after disarming the bomb and creating the best scientific guide possible and distributing it to people across the wastelands.

I have a phobia of Mirelurks I had to get over to do that y'know. Fucking HATE Mirelurks.

I never minded Claptrap in the first Borderlands. I want to slap him in the second one though, I am NOT his "minion"

Oh and Ashley was fine in RE4. She's no Yorda but she was ok. At least Leon doesn't yank her around by the arm like he's trying to dislocate her shoulder.

I've heard people go on about Mike Thorton in Alpha Protocol. He is the ponciest ponce to ever ponce past a poncing parlour but I love him for that. That and all the James Bond-y stuff you can do.

Exactly! Cait Sith was my favourite character, and I found his big scene in the temple far more sad than the other, rather better known big death scene later on (even if his immediate reappearance does its best to diminish the impact.)

My pick would be Lara Croft. She's confident, adventurous and sexy, and the definitive video game heroine of the 90s. I'm really surprised at how much hate Lara attracts these days, and disapointed that many of these attacks seem based on a revisionist interpretation of her character and the series that pays no attention to the era in which she was perhaps the face of video gaming.

Hmmm I had no idea a lot of these mentioned characters were hated by a huge amount of people, I suppose one off the top of my head would be Vanille from FFXIII I dont love her character but I didnt mind her I actually found her to be a bit ridiculous and amusing almost like she had a screw loose, I suppose her dialogue seemed for me a bit like the original Dante (DMC 2001 only) as in its just completely ridiculous but you cant wait to see what she comes out with next.

I suppose after Sazh and Fang she was my favourite character in that game.

It's funny. I knew about the big death scene YEARS before I ever touched Final Fantasy VII, and yet when I actually saw it for the first time, I was still kinda saddened by it. Probably because I became pretty attached to Aeris (or Aerith if you prefer) at that point and she was my main healer.

While I have seen some sadder scenes in games. (Like that ONE scene in Valkyria Chronicles). I could see why a lot of people were shocked over it.

Fi from Skyward Sword. I enjoyed the robot companion that lived in my sword.

Ashley from Resident Evil 4. While not my favorite Character, she did what she was told and never got in the way for me, and on my second playthrough I got to watch her get smacked for a minute straight by a regenerator before I shot it to death and that was amusing.

Nathan Drake from Uncharted, he is snarky and likes to throw people off cliffs, what isn't great about that.

Katey from Dead Rising 2, I didn't find it annoying to go back to her every 24 hours, especially since I always had spare time after doing pretty much every mission I could while waiting between her and plot missions to start.

James Vega from Mass Effect 3. He was my second favorite squadmate, he was a fun character who had some great lines.

Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2. He isn't Solid Snake, but he was an interesting character with some problems, Rosemary was a total ***** though.

If I knew what characters everyone else hated that would be great.

Although i'll take a wild stab at people not liking Ashley Williams from Mass Effect (see a lot of abuse thrown her way) but I liked her.

And Jack (Subject Zero). See a lot of folk throw abuse her way too but she's one of my favourite characters (and one of the reasons I hate ME3 ... not enough Jack).

Well everyone I talk to says that Handsome Jack is a dick and they hate him, but I think he is kind of cool in a dickish kind of way, if you see what I mean.

Jack and James in the Mass Effect games.

I think people hated Jack because of her first impression(what a *****!), but if you take the time to actually speak with her, you learn why she is that way. Her romance sub-plot was probably the most well done in 2, but rather lackluster in 3, as in she was barely in the game at all.

James was hated because he was a new character in the end of the trilogy, and people here seem to be afraid of characters that have muscles and mohawks. I'll admit that he doesn't have a lot of deep and meaningful story aside from the mission where he lost a lot of his squad, but a good chunk of his lines were really funny. He was arguably the best squadmate for combat too, as he kicks almost too much ass with the Revenant or Typhoon.

Carth Onasi from Knights of the Old Republic. People always complain that he has trust issues or that he is whiny, but considering his backstory about being betrayed by everything he was previously loyal too, I felt he was completely justified in his trust issues.

I'm not sure, nobody who I can think of I would class as somebody I love that has a large enough hatedom to qualify. Maybe Rikku from FFX, do people still hate her? There's probably quite a few people I could claim to hate that lots of others like, but mostly I'm just indifferent.

WTF happened to Jack in ME3? I rekindled my romance with her, she arranged to meet me on the Citadel (presumably for some crazy monkey sex) but then never showed up :-(

While I'm not sure how many people hated Magister Sieran from Guild Wars 2 but I know they don't like her.

Sure all three of the Orders mentors are cliche/ sterotype (Tybalt put on a charming/ funny front to cover his own insecurity of his usefulness, Forgal is the typical tough guy with a sad past over his family) but it has been a while since I've encounter an airhead sort of character.

So when comparing her to the other two mentors, I just find her personality to be refreshing.
