Sorry but... Fluttershy is worst pony. She does have her moments but for the most part she's just a doormat. I just don't find the shy, quiet, vulnerable female archetype likeable at all.

In high school I was surrounded by guys who idolized Master Chief. I never want to see that helmet again.

Every single Firefly character, mainly because I couldn't tell them apart.

The main guy, Mal Whatever, is apparently considered one of the "greatest anti-heroes ever." Then I suppose that must count for the rest of the Serenity crew:

You've got Mal; he's a badass.

You've got the rest:

The snarky, untrusting badass, the female badass and the rest; also badasses. Except that one really annoying chick, who kind of switched between annoying and badass on occation.

And then there's Serenity. Now we've got:

That one villain: The no-name guy... who is also a badass, apparently.

And River. The badass with an emotional complex. Revolutionary.

I don't know if I'm a minority on this, or if I simply didn't "get" the characters; I just didn't care about them. Maybe I don't understand the series as a whole. I just couldn't get into it, or Joss Whedon's work in general. There's just something about his writing that doesn't "pull me in."

Aw, why are you hating on Trixie? Sure she was annoying, but she wasn't THAT annoying (at least to me).

Anyway:

1. Peter Griffon (Family Guy)
2. Homer Simpson (Simpsons)
3. Every single character from Twilight

I agree that she was.. well, she wasn't great in FFVII but I actually liked her in Crisis Core.

OT: I think Lydia from Skyrim's already been said but I just never got on with her, she doesn't really have a personality of her own other than 'I will follow you whatever you do.'

I found her to have no real positive personality traits, yet she's idolized by fans for no particular reason, to where 2 of my friends say she's their favorite character. I dont even get it.

Rachel from Batman Begins/The Dark Knight.

What Bruce saw in that passive aggressive annoyance I don't know(though Maggie Gyllenhall did make her a lot more bearable than she was in the first movie), but I almost cheered aloud in the theater when she died... I hated the character that much.

I always find it funny in these threads, because most of the characters hated are almost always from series with loud, die-hard fans. I can't help but think that it's not the characters that people actually dislike, but the fanbases that make them feel more annoying.

Just once, can't we have an "X you love that everyone else hates" thread? Just once? No? We have to keep up the endless cycle of negativity here on The Escapist? Sheesh, I'm surprised Game Grumps isn't hosted here.
So true, but to be honest if we did that then it'd still be flooded with people answering posts with "Omg why do you like that character they suck".

That's the way of the internet sadly.

I don't know if people actually love her but Katniss from The Hunger Games, I haven't actually seen the movie yet but in the second and third books she's really irritating and quite badly written.

One minute she's the fearless heroine, next she hates everything, then she's afraid, then she's selfless but selfish at the same time. Her personality totally flip-flops and all she does is complain. I get that she's probably trying to portray a troubled teenager flung into a difficult situation but Katniss has these big epiphany moments, only to completely forget about them two pages later. It makes her really unlikable.
It was annoying wasn't it, she actually devolves as the story progresses.

Catelyn Stark. Know-it-all busybody caused more trouble than she was worth.
Eddard Stark, he has nooooo flexibility in his moral reasoning. He just a self righteous fool.
Really? If that were the case then he'd have told everybody about the fact that Cersei's children were born of incest, he'd have told the truth about Jon Snow, and wouldn't (as far as we know) have had an affair to father him.

Those are rather flexible morals considering he is otherwise extremely honourable.

L from Deathnote

Pompous prick, also he has no personality whatsoever, and is regarded as if he is the einstein of our age amongst deathnote fanboys.

Sylvanas Windrunner from Warcraft.

People gush about how complex she is, yet she is completely one-dimensional.

People praise how well written she is, yet she flip-flops from whiney emo git to zombie hitler with the drop of a hat.

People speak of how well developed her character is. Of course, the only thing developed about her is her body.

Captcha: "goosebumps", still better written than Sylvanas.
Ok most of the time on this kind of thread I say how we shouldn't do this kind of thing but, I have to agree with this guy. I didn't much care for the lore in World of Warcraft anyway but, just getting told how awesome this one, well I will just say it, bad charter is doesn't inspire confidence. Look if that's the best wow has to offer count me under the 9 million people who don't read the quest text.

You know, you could have just described your dislike of the characters, without going on a little tirade directed at us.
Could have. But anytime anyone ever does that, the hardcore segment of the Brony community seems to go out of its way to badger the person with claims like "you're just a hater whose never watched it!" If the community as a whole were more mature about their general response to people who simply say "Hey, I don't like it." then the response of people who don't like it wouldn't have to be preemptive.

So no, I have no remorse for my wording. Get a thicker skin, and, y'know... actually participate in the topic rather than making yourself look like exactly the type of person I was being preemptive about.

Spiderman. Seriously. Every story with the guy is melodramatic as all hell.

You think Ron is bad but, yeah, fuck Harry too.

The Great and Powerful Trixie. Fuck you.

Raphiel from Tmnt. He acts like a complete jackass all the time.

Master Chief has zero personality.

Marcus Fenix is bland as hell. Pretty much everyone in Gears except for Braid and Cole.

Gorden Freeman. This one just baffels me, as he hasnt spoken once, yet everyone loves the character. You could play as Alex in 3 and nothing would change.

My gosh this list got crazy long.
Agree with you on all of them except harry/ron and Gordon Freeman. Well Ron/Harry i don't know anything about because i'm not a Harry Potter fan and well Gordon Freeman is so great because his personality is what we want it to be, It would only hurt the game if it went to Cut-Scene-O-Vision and show us Gordon Freeman shaking his fist yelling "BLASPHEMY, Thou evil aliens shall pay for this". But yes i see where you are coming from people do tent to go nust over a character the themself created, So if somebody says "Gordon Freeman is awesome!!!" then you don't know if he's talking about your "Kind hearted father figure-Freeman" or his "Hey let's throw glass at people at stab their dog-Freeman".

I think its because he is the most manly nerd to ever live. Loves science, can swing a crowbar fast enough and hard enough to break a skull easily and finally he is what you want him to be. You want him to be serial killer who fucking hates his co-workers you can do that, or a manipulator who uses people to get to certain places then kill them.

He's whatever you want, and that is why he is awesome.

If anyone is curious why I specifically said below that this Community does it well is because we have to take preemptive measures to not get the hounds of hell on us. Just saying.

The entire cast of the Walking Dead, no contest. And no, I'm not talking the amazing game that did what the Comic's did, I'm talking about the shitty, overrated TV series. It has none of the bite of the comic [the sheriff's kid learns to wield a gun and not only saves his mother from getting eaten alive but also kills his father's best friend once he goes insane and starts putting the entire group at danger.] and all the issues of shows now in days [adds humor into a setting which it doesn't fit, gets you attached to characters you barely know before introducing them, the actors are all bland.] and it honestly becomes a giant, unremarkable mess.

The comic had bite and I feel covered the topic way better then the TV show, which did very similar things however had the quirky humor without the pacing to make the drama more dramatic.

The entire MLP:FiM cast and fanbase. I get it, this show exists and its characters are that of Spongebob quality, cool, now can you please not shove it down my neck. [This isn't directed to the fanbase on here since they do a wonderful job of not shoving down your throat, but the MLP:FiM fanbase on TF2 are some of the most irritating people I met on there.]

But the one that tops it all is the Pyro from TF2. Fucking walking and talking giant evil toaster is what he is.

In a way, I think that's just it. We haven't seen anything other than her boastful, arrogant side. Thus, many fans have wondered what she really is like, which I believe is what gives her the following that she has in the fandom.

Is she like Rainbow Dash, where she acts the way she does to hide a sense of insecurity? Or is she truly just rotten to the core? I get the feeling that this is why people seem to like her.

Lydia always makes me twitch. Like, when you ask to trade things, when she says "I am sworn to carry your burdens" she sounds extremely sarcastic and rude. And I'm all "***** if you're not happy GTFO and I'll get someone nicer to follow me around. Like Farkas or Vilkas 8|"

John Marston from Red Dead Redemption.

The guy is the biggest fucking doormat in the world of gaming. He's all bark no bite.
Thing is, he starts out pretty well. But then Mexico comes along and he casually shoves all his principles out of the door.
