So we all have those few characters that we just hate with every inch of our body, the ones that we wish and look forward to bad things happening to them. I'm not talking about just badly written characters, I'm talking about characters who's actions, personality and voice just pisses you off. So, what character do you absolutely loath?

Now, I'm gonna get this out of the way. Joffrey from Game of Thrones. I haven't watched season 2 yet so don't say if anything bad happens to him, neither have I read the books. But that little bastard is the most terrible human being ever put on screen. Unlike many of the other villians in the series Joffrey hasn't had to suffer hardships, or go through wars or anything else, he's just a spoilt brat bastard who I hope to god is killed in season 2 or season 3.

Yeah, but you're supposed to hate Joffrey. Pretty much everyone recognises him as a little shit except Cersei because she has the disadvantage of being both his mother and pretty terrible herself. Martin often goes out of his way to emphasise what a douche Joffrey is, so I wouldn't worry about hating him.
For my part I dislike Caitlin Stark. She whines on and on like everything is a personal attack against her. "Oh Rob wants to send me somewhere safe from the war, clearly its because he doesn't like having his mother around. Alas, woe is me." Or, and here's a wild thought, perhaps he genuinely wants you safe since you're some of the closest family he has and one of the few people he trusts? Perhaps it isn't all about you? Perhaps you could try looking at the big picture? Not to mention its her actions that kick off the conflict proper after she kidnaps Tyrion...

Trip from Enslaved Odyssey to the West. Does nothing for most of the game but run into danger. Never liked her.

EVERY HUMAN in the Transformers trilogy by Michael Bay. Seriously hate them all. I would have been happy if they all got run over by a Decepticon Bus.

Dolrus Umbridge from Harry Potter is a bigger dick then Voldemort.

I hated her more than Gilderoy Lockhart, and I DESPISED Gilderoy.

On the other characters I hated, let me think. I used to hate Udina, but I could relate to him in Mass Effect 3. Claptrap, as one other poster mentioned, is a fail mascot. Other than that, I can't recall any characters I thoroughly dislike from more than a few minutes with them.

Or, and here's a wild thought, perhaps he genuinely wants you safe since you're some of the closest family he has and one of the few people he trusts? Perhaps it isn't all about you? Perhaps you could try looking at the big picture? Not to mention its her actions that kick off the conflict proper after she kidnaps Tyrion...

Well, the show's work has been done then? I, and many others absolutely hate Joffrey with every bit of our being. Which is intentional, and they're not trying to hide that. I reckon any show with this many characters needs a complete arsehole bastard to contrast to the honourable and good (as in good vs evil) characters. But really, I kind of disagree with your point about Caitlin Stark. Sure she was an arrogant prick at first, but soon she learnt how shitty being an arrogant prick can make your life. She gets literally held hostage with Joffrey, and a dead dad for being an arrogant prick. Joffrey gets to be the bloody king!

If you walk-in on them changing by accident, they pummel you, and if they walk in on you changing they pummel you. They always get to be right no matter who is at fault. You just can't win! Makes me want to do something convoluted like get a 3D printer, print up a life size doll of them, hollow it, fill it with red paint and paper mache organs, record their screaming voice and play it WHILE I SAVAGELY SLICE AT THEM WITH A--- *ahem*, excuse me, my homicidal tendencies seem to be in full effect. No, thats Sansa Stark. Caitlin is the mother. I don't know how she comes across in the TV show, only read the books where I find her an insufferable self-made martyr. Sansa is pretty annoying but as she's only supposed to be, like, 13/14 (aged up in the series to, what, 17?) and has never been raised to be any kind of hero thanks to the inherent sexism of the world, I can forgive her. It would be like asking Cinderella to do something without the aid of a fairy godmother. Caitlin brings everything on herself and never once questions her own decisions. In her world everything she did was right and if things went wrong it was someone else's fault.

In my experience, there are 2 mainstream anime protagonists. The first kind are just guys like, say, Ichigo or Goku.

Those I don't have a problem with. They're a little bland, yeah, but I don't hate them. But then there's the other kind. You know them. The spineless, wimpy, stupid, hypocritical little shits that do nothing but mope and whinge the whole goddamn time. They are some of the most loathsome characters in any medium, and I hope they all die in a fire.

I heard once that Dawn was supposed be a LOT younger originally, which makes sense to me since her acting like a 9-year-old petulant brat would've worked better if she actually was 9. I liked her a lot better during the first few episodes of season 5 when I was convinced she was evil incarnate. Alas...:/

OT: Beowulf. I loathe Beowulf with the kind of rage that rivals an entire Religion and Politics forum. How in the hell is the only remotely excusable character in that 1200-year-old piece of garbage Grendel's Mother? I understand that story telling conventions have massively changed in the last millenia or so, I do not care. I hate it and specifically him far too much to use reason. I especially hate how he's in this really annoying Protagonist/Mary Sue bubble that makes everyone and thing around him worship him on sight. Literally, when the watchman on the coast sees Beowulf's ship filled with potential invaders his first reaction is, "LOOK AT THAT HUNK OF MAN!!!" and proceeds to verbally fellate him.

I hate Beowulf.

Never mind that he basically lost his motivation and is now going on purely through "raaaaaagh vengeance hate revenge raaaaagh". Never mind that for long stretches of time he basically hijacks the series. No, my big issue is that he (really, the sharingan eye in general, but him in particular) is the fucking embodiment of "New Powers as the Plot Demands" for anime. To the point that the goddamn eye can manipulate space and time and alter reality and AAAAAAAGH IT HURT MY BRAIN, THE BAD WRITING!

I've only read bits and pieces of his existence across a few series, but most of what I've seen, I really haven't liked. I'll just put in one example, the one where he went right into full-on Mary Sue territory.During World War Hulk, an event hyping up that Hulk was the angriest he's ever been, so thus at the strongest he's ever been, Sentry is just sitting in a house the whole time. Then he decides to go outside and fights the Hulk. And he doesn't use any gimmicks or outsmart him. He just fights him in a straight-up fistfight to the point that the Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner. He left his house and in a few pages basically solved everything. Maybe he's better in the rest of his time alive. But that's going to take some work...

As soon as I heard Snow Villiers from Final Fantasy 13, I was like, "I'm not going to enjoy this game." Then came Hope Esthiem, and I skipped the rest of the cut-scenes from then on. Vanille -- oh my God!

It's as if Square Enix poured all of their heart and soul into the project, and which sadly consisted of stereotypical anime characters trying to pull off an original save the world epic. At least 12 tried to be original in voice casting and diction -- the more noble characters refrained from the slang that Vaan and Penelo used comfortably. It also tried to tackle themes, wherein 13 just spilt its guts in wasteful melodrama.

Then in 13-2, they ditch the only good character, Fang and stick us with two time-traveling idiots and Pikachu.

Zeke gets a lot better in InFamous 2 if you haven't played it. They start off with the assumption that you think he's a spineless untrustworthy douche bag and work from there. I dare say I even liked him by the end!

I pick Ben Chang from Community. In season 1 and 2 he had his moments, but in season 3 everything he does is just so damn boring and unfunny and he was basically only there to have that story arc where he takes over Greendale.

Problem is even the Red Wedding (for those of you who haven't read the books, DO NOT LOOK THIS UP!) didn't stop her. She's still being just as impulsive and short-sighted as ever. "Oh, whats that trusted ally from previous books? You're trying to explain yourself to me but can't because my new friends who are weaselly outlaws that I literally just met have you in a noose? No, I don't think I will take the time to listen to you, because I'm Caitlin Stark and my needs override everyone else's la-di-dah-di-dah!"

See, what you hate about the Sentry is his entire reason for existence. That's literally what he does. He goes from basically catatonic or an endless angst fest to actually getting forced to go out and do something. And when he does do something, he's essentially unstoppable...unless he gets scared or something then goes and cries on the moon for a week. I think that was an actual plot involving him at one point too. It might've been the sun. He's a very definite Mary Sue, though they try to justify it by him basically being crushed under the weight of his own Sueness. He's Superman with emotional issues.
