-Ahem- GRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you read berserk you'll know why he's here. If not: He's like Joffrey, you're kinda meant to hate him. Incidentally, Joffrey from GOT is also on here.

Vaan from Final Fantasy 12. Never have i seen a more pointless and annoying main character! Nowe from Drakengard 2 is a close second.

True that, but frankly he strikes me a character Bioware designed that you're SUPPOSED to hate.

The whole cyborg ninja thing he had going is something I wasn't really bothered by, I, in fact, thought it was pretty cool. But the character himself thoroughly demonstrates how evil and jerkish he is, that way the moment you engage him in a final boss fight and finally kill him makes the moment all the more satisfying.

But as for the characters I hate with a passion? well, I might go with Anora from Dragon Age: Origins.

The way she back-stabbed me twice in that game strikes me as evidence that she cares more about getting her queenhood back than on the threat of the Darkspawn. And she doesn't even admit to betrayal.

Also Maven Black-Briar, which gives me this question to Bethesda; "Y U NO GIVE OPTION TO KILL MAVEN AND WIPE OUT THIEVES GUILD?"

Shane Walsh from the Walking Dead. He is a psychopath, plain and simple. First of all he sleeps with his best friend's wife like a month after they both believe him to be dead. He beats people almost to a bloody pulp, attempts to kill Rick twice three times, tried to rape Lori, traumatised an entire family by slaughtering their zombiefied family members in front of them and murdered at least two people, one of whom was a good man trying to help.

And for some reason people keep giving him a second chance, I was often breathless at how idiotic people were being. Hey Rick this guy is a double murderer who has threatened your life at least twice because he is obsessed with taking your wife and son for himself, you really think one stern conversation is going to make him back off? Hey Lori, the guy who tried to aggressively force himself on you and attempted to murder your husband because he's quite prepared to take you by force if he can't get you willingly is not someone you want socializing with your son!

It blows my mind on so many levels that people keep overlooking how clearly unhinged and dangerous Shane really is. How is it possible that Dale is the only one who even seems concerned by it for half the season? What does he have to do before people stop trusting him?

The actor did a really good job portraying Shane as a 'psychopath who doesn't know he's a psychoapth' type character but the show's writers seemed to keep trying to make him into a sympathetic character and kept trying to push the whole 'love triangle' element between him and Rick fighting for Lori's affections. That just disturbs me that they think there's even a competition between the noble Rick and Shane. Sure Shane maybe technically have protected Lori and Carl a few times but Rick never tried to rape her nor did he ever commit murder in the name of 'protecting' her.
Hell even Lori's actress, Sarah Wayne Collins, refuted the notion of Lori being angry at Rick because
he killed Shane
because she was in love with Shane but because she was scared that Rick was turning into Shane. When your actress is refuting your own writing, you know you've done something wrong.

Andrea from The Walking Dead.

God I want her to get torn apart by zombies. I might throw a party if that happens.
How come? I'm not attacking but I'm curious. I've never had a problem with Andrea but everyone seems to spew hatred at her constantly, could you explain why you have a problem with her?

Han Solo. Single worst char in all of narrative history. Anything with him, Or anything that builds on his archtype/trope is simply revolting to me.

Anders from Dragon Age 2. My first time playing I actually loved him. I thought, "oh, what a fantastic character! He's so charming and sweet and he likes cats! Hawke is so getting laid!" I was a huge mage sympathizer and everything he did just seemed so ~*TORTURED*~ and he only wanted JUSTICE and ... yeah. But upon seeing his act of blatant terrorism, I did a complete 180. All of my cutsie wootsie feelings turned into flaming piles of nope. I've played two more games since then, and I can't even stand to talk to him. I skip all of his dialogue options and shirk off his quests for the last minute. I've never, EVER had a video game character irk me that much, and it's surprising just how fucking livid he gets me.

Lori Grimes from The Walking Dead. Now, I'm generally a pretty patient viewer. Seeing Lori messing around with Shane was pretty messed up, but I could sympathize with her: she thinks her husband is dead and she's searching for any kind of tangible emotion in this world that's suddenly gone to hell. Okay, Lori, I'll let it slide. Once Rick returned she told Shane it was over, and I had mad respect. I think she really started to grind my gears in Season 2. First of all, you'd think the number one priority of a mother during the zombie apocalypse would be to watch her damn child, but APPARENTLY FUCKING NOT. Carl is another little piece of shit whom I hate with a passion, but I guess I'm just lumping him in with his mom. She tries to act like the big bad ***** and "queen" figure of the group when she is basically worthless. Andrea's the brawn, Carol is basically serving as the housewife, and what is Lori doing? WHINING about every goddamn thing. She plays such this obnoxious "overemotional wife" trope and it's bullshit. My absolute favorite moment of S2 was when Andrea (who is my favorite character) called her out on her bullshit after she was scolding her for letting suicidal Beth be on her own. Which is another thing that bothers me: Lori acts like the patron saint of womanhood, trying to be all "girl power!11" but she can't even watch her kid, or have a level-headed conversation with her husband. She just drives me up a wall. And I know it's bad writing, but fucking CRASHING A CAR ON AN EMPTY ROAD? Really *****?
...jeez, sorry for the rant!

Couldn't have said it better. The entire game is pseudophilosophical shit. What a shame the gameplay was actually better than KotoR 1.

Laguna from Final Fantasy VIII. Mostly because I actually like Squall, and Laguna is the exact opposite of everything that makes Squall a good character, although I kinda think that was the point. It was like Square tried to make this unlikable asshole as the stand-in for more traditionally "likable" protagonists as a response to what they thought people would think of Squall, and everyone missed the point.

Now onto the list!
Jon Snow from Game of Thrones
Esbern and Delphine from Skyrim
Montezuma from Civilization
Every protagonist from the Nasuverse who eventually unlock powers that make everyone else basically useless in comparison.
Gilgamesh from Fate
Touma from A certain Magical Index
Mako from Legend of Korra
Ashley and Miranda from Mass Effect
Waaaaaait... Jon Snow made your list but Joffrey, Cersei, or Samwell didn't!?!?

Don't know who the rest of those are except for Ashley and Miranda. I didn't care enough about Ashley to hate her but I hated Miranda. If, when she said she's perfect in every way, she meant a perfect ***** with a giant man jaw, yeah I guess she was perfect.

Now onto the list!

Goku
Jeoffry
Samwell
Everyone in Bleach except for Kenpachi
Miranda
Ice Type Pokemon (Seriously 1 resistance and 4 weaknesses, including fighting and fire??)
Naruto
Kahn King (King of the Hill)
Stan (American Dad)
Peter (Family Guy)
Star Child (ME3)
Every whiny and indecisive male protagonist of any anime who mysteriously gets a harem of girls throwing their bodies at him just because, gosh darn it, he's just so very very nice. Makes me wanna vomit.

Dean Pelton from Community. I've always kinda disliked him, but I really started to detest him after "Studies in Modern Movement", where he essentially blackmails Jeff Winger into spending "a day at the mall with Craig" (read: FORCED TO GO ON A DATE). Then I went and rewatched Community, and realized that he's always been just plain creepy, and I've hated him ever since.

I think her apearence was more due to technical reasons...

also shes not "actually" perfect..but designed to be perfect, theres a difference, yeah, shes full of herself but I think "more or less" reasonable

Oh, I hated him already for killing you-know-who but that's no reason not to hate him more for carrying an idiot ball around with him at all times. And while we're on ME, I hated Miranda in ME2, although she got marginally better in ME3.

In the vast minority here: Stephen Heck from Alpha Protocol. I was playing a pacifist run, and he kept shooting random people and generally behaving like the wacky psychopath he is. Then I pissed him off, and he sold me out. I'll probably take more kindly to him in subsequent playthroughs, though.

Sasuke Uchiha, and anyone who uses the Sharingan fucking eye.
Never mind that he basically lost his motivation and is now going on purely through "raaaaaagh vengeance hate revenge raaaaagh". Never mind that for long stretches of time he basically hijacks the series. No, my big issue is that he (really, the sharingan eye in general, but him in particular) is the fucking embodiment of "New Powers as the Plot Demands" for anime. To the point that the goddamn eye can manipulate space and time and alter reality and AAAAAAAGH IT HURT MY BRAIN, THE BAD WRITING!

The Sentry from Marvel Comics.
I've only read bits and pieces of his existence across a few series, but most of what I've seen, I really haven't liked. I'll just put in one example, the one where he went right into full-on Mary Sue territory.During World War Hulk, an event hyping up that Hulk was the angriest he's ever been, so thus at the strongest he's ever been, Sentry is just sitting in a house the whole time. Then he decides to go outside and fights the Hulk. And he doesn't use any gimmicks or outsmart him. He just fights him in a straight-up fistfight to the point that the Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner. He left his house and in a few pages basically solved everything. Maybe he's better in the rest of his time alive. But that's going to take some work...

I might think of more...
See, what you hate about the Sentry is his entire reason for existence. That's literally what he does. He goes from basically catatonic or an endless angst fest to actually getting forced to go out and do something. And when he does do something, he's essentially unstoppable...unless he gets scared or something then goes and cries on the moon for a week. I think that was an actual plot involving him at one point too. It might've been the sun. He's a very definite Mary Sue, though they try to justify it by him basically being crushed under the weight of his own Sueness. He's Superman with emotional issues.

captcha: pork pies
Yup. He's literally Marvel's better version of Superman. They took Superman and gave him something more crippling to deal with than an allergy to green space rocks. Sentry has to deal with his own insanity and/or a demonic entity/his evil half (The Void) trying to break free and rampage.

Myuria from Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Aside from it being not quite clear how losing her husband suddenly transformed her from a quiet scientist into a vamp, the JIGGLING. See, there's fanservice and there's just plain stupidity. Her breasts jiggle while she stands still! Any minor movement sends them into a full-blown earthquake! There's a lot of bad characters out there, and I'm often prepared to overlook it, if the game is enjoyable enough. But that fucking jiggling just gets on my nerves.

Andrei Smirnov from Gundam 00. He kills his own father over a misunderstanding, AND THE SHOW NEVER MAKES HIM ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HE WAS IN THE WRONG.

Souta Tamadate from Guilty Crown. You probably don't recognize him by name, I sure didn't, but you probably hate him all the same if you've ever watched the show. I only skimmed it for the music, but I saw enough to absolutely hate this ungrateful little prick's guts.

And I guess everyone who turns on Lelouch in the second half of Code Geass R2, but only for the fact that they turned on him. I could never truly hate Kallen. They made up for it by letting him have Suzaku.

I'll give you that with Rinnegan thing and the crap Itachi pulled, but the
Tobi and Kakashi
was pretty cool and nicely planted throughout the series. Hell the anime even gave their moves a similar effect way before the big reveal.

Playing Killzone 2 at the moment, loving the gameplay, the graphics, and the atmosphere, but I can't help but hate my characters with a passion. They're all either bland, like Sev and Garza, or unlikeable macho dickbags like Rico and Natko. One dimensional, boring, and unpleasant to be around. This is compounded by the fact that I feel quite morally wrong for even invading Helghan, especially since it's quite heavily implied that the only reason the Helghast are so militaristic is because they were forced to live on the barren, inhospitable world of Helghan by the ISA...

Now, I'm gonna get this out of the way. Joffrey from Game of Thrones. I haven't watched season 2 yet so don't say if anything bad happens to him, neither have I read the books. But that little bastard is the most terrible human being ever put on screen. Unlike many of the other villians in the series Joffrey hasn't had to suffer hardships, or go through wars or anything else, he's just a spoilt brat bastard who I hope to god is killed in season 2 or season 3.
A thousand times this.

However since you took my choice I guess I'll have to think of another. I won't spoil for you who it is but someone in season two ends up giving Joffrey a run for his money in the biggest asshole contest. The only thing saving the other guy/girl from absolute hate is that you can sort of feel pity/empathy for the him/her (at least I could anyway).

Edit: and very much Kai Leng. Say what you will about ME3 but in my opinion it that the best renegade interrupt out of all the games.

Jon Irenicus. Everything he did was 'A' class dickish.
Steal your belongings.
Kill your party members.
Torture you and your party members
Torture and create horrible abominations that suffer in glass cages.
Kill a metric fuckton of people
Kidnap you and your party TWICE. TWIIIIIICE.
Kidnap and mentally damage Imoen.
Steal your soul and Imoen's soul.
Attempt to rise to godhood
Work with a vampire
Invading my own pocket dimension of hell

I mean, he's an all around dick who just doesn't know when to stop.
