I'm pretty sure that the term "fan" comes from the word "fanatic" in the way that someone is "fanatical" about something or someone. Now, people can be fanatical about something in both a positive and negative sense. For example, Jar Jar Binks. Everybody hates him. Everybody talks about hating him. Everybody is a fanatic. See where I'm going with this?

So a lot of people just disliking a character doesn't mean the same as the character having zero fans. In some ways, Jar Jar has more fans that any other Star Wars character in the history of the film.

In actuality, it's impossible to have "zero fans".

Fan is the abbreiviated form of Fancier as in someone who thoroughly enjoys something(Cat Fancier, Opera Fancier, Fine Food Fancier, etcetera) though really, its a matter of degree between one being a fancier and fanatic.
That said, enough children (and George Lucas)enjoyed Jar Jar Binks' antics enough for him to be included in the sequels whether anybody was a fanatical fancier of him or not.

i liked him in kingdom hearts 1/2

he was pretty badass there. also there they never mention his name is squall just leon or leonhart.

Actually if you beat him in the Dual when you first meet him, some ninja chick walks over and says "You're losing it Squall!"

I actually found him a bit amusing.

I seem to be part of the small (at least, from every site I've been on) portion of the Portal fanbase who actually enjoy working out what Chell's character is really like, without going into crack or shipping territory. I know there was another character I'm a huge fan of that has almost no one, but I can't remember who it was now. This is going to drive me nuts <_< Maybe it was Breen?
