Hey,
I am proudly a cheap ass gamer. I never pay 59.99 for a new game i always wait for the price to drop to 19.99 (usually within Six months of Release) and i never understood why people do. Generally for excellent games you get a GOTY edition with all content for 20 to 30 bucks... I should mention that i don't do multilayer or co-op so maybe that lessens the appeal to paying three times as much for less content....

Any other cheap ass gamers out there and if so where do you find the best deals on your games (Consoles preferably)

'i never understood why people do'

Because the soul reason those game you buy so cheaply in the first place exist is because people are willing to buy them on launch? Because if they didn't, the devs wouldn't make enough money to make said games?

Really, it's not a difficult concept.

True and to be fair i was prob sounding a little more judgmental that i meant to... What i really wanted out of this thread is an idea on where people shop for new (not Preplayed) games for good prices

I usually wait a few weeks to a month for new releases. By then they are usually dropped to around 40 bucks (which I am personally willing to shell out for a new triple-A), or they've been on sale at one point. Not necessarily cheap-ass, but cheap-ish.

Playstation plus is a great value, it's 50$ for one year subscription and every week they cycle in one new game and out an old one, so far I've had it for about 2 1/2 months and i've seen

bioshock 2
megaman 9
megaman 10
closure
ratchet and clank all 4 one
street fighter 4
infamous 2
little big planet 2
darksiders
quantum conundrum
retro city rampage
dungeon defenders
payday the heist

and I think today vanquish and megaman maverick hunter X are coming out

Sleeping dogs also came out but only EU :(

Well if your a cheap ass gamer I hate to think what I am :p

I can't think of the last time I bought a game over £5, I normally only pay about £2 these days.

That is probably due to my obsession with charity and second hand shops, also I've been playing a lot of older games recently.

Isn't it the opposite? If no one buys a game they drop the price to entice people . And if many people buy it then it stays the same price .

Kinda like how DNF dropped to 20$ in like two weeks and hows Nintendo titles/CoD stays at 60$ FOREVER .

OT: No i'm not a cheap ass gamer . Games i want i'll buy day one . Games i don't want i'll only buy for less than 20$ . The reason i can do this and not go brankrupt is because i'm a JRPG fan and those are few and far between .

I only very recently bought my first console from this last generation, a 3DS XL. I never even owned a regular DS, so now I get to catch up on Professor Layton and TWEWY and all those other games for the bare-minimum used prices at GameStop. Yeah I'll probably be buying a lot of 3DS titles new or fairly new, but when it comes to the DS titles I'm going to spend a LOT less money than everybody else I know who's had a DS for years.

That's not generally why people do it though, is it? It's because they want the latest gadget; the one everyone else is talking about.

But you're right, if people were more rational, individually speaking, and waited for an inevitable price drop before buying, then there'd be no more games being made. It's kind of like a paradox of thrift.

I'm in a weird place at the moment, I really couldn't be any less bothered by any games coming out roundabout now. If I want a game, i'll buy it at the usual £40 but I don't WANT any games at the moment. 'S weird.

I'm just playing BlazBlue, UMVC3 and LoL and nothing else. Ok and some Borderlands 2 on the side because I actually want to finish it sometime soon :p

I think i'm just done with shooters for a while. Call me when Bioshock Infinite comes out kthx bai!

I am trying to watch my spending on LoL though. Do I buy skins now or do I wait for a sale? It's like Steam but less nightmareish.

I bought Nunu Bot full price and I exclusively play only Leona or Lulu when I have to support. Makes no fucking sense. Leona is awesome with hyper aggressive carries like Graves and Lulu is simply best support in game full stop.

The title of your thread is convenient for me because I get a good number of deals for cheap games from a place that is actually called Cheap Arse Gamer. It is however, largely UK-oriented, so you might be out of luck there.

i am exactly like you. i never like to pay full price for a game. i like to buy them cheap. one of the main reasons being if inspite of good reviews if i dont like a game i paid full price for i would feel ripped off. also i game primarily on pc and secondarily on ps2( ps2 never goes out of fashion and games are so cheap) so good deals are easy to come buy.
steam sales are awesome however i prefer to buy a retail copy due to my shitty internet.

First, a question.

Dollars? Pounds? Euros? Non-American dollars?

Since $59.99 is the standard starting price for games in the USA, you're probably talking about US dollars, but could you remember that this is a fairly international forum. Looking at a few polls done, just under a fifth of people here reside in the US.

Anyway, I only seem to buy games off Steam sale nowadays. And other than, say Rome 2, I can't see any games I'm particularly after coming along soon.

Very rarely do I pay full price for a game and I refuse to pay $60 for one. If it's something I really want to play, then I'll snag it in the $40 price range like I did with Xcom. If it's something I only sort of want to play, then I'll consider getting it at $20. Steam and Gamer's Gate keep me plenty stocked up on games for the PC. When it comes to the PS3....I find myself borrowing games from friends.

I've only Preordered 1 game (BO2) and bought 1 soon after launch (Skyrim) since I don't like buying into new franchises with a game that's just been released, I often wait to see what the reviews are like before buying it myself instead of blindly buying something I don't know much about. Saying that, I'm considering pre-ordering The Last of Us, and I will leap on Fallout 4 when it comes out.

I'm cheap too. £40 is far too expensive to spend every 2 months for a average- good game.

It's probably because I'm only a fanboy of a select few titles so only bought a few at rrp in the last 3 years (but on pre-order discount- so £30);
Deus Ex:HR
Hitman Absolution
Mass effect 3
Pokemon

The only only games I can see myself buying on release in the future is MGS: ground zeroes, dark souls 2

I have a huge back log of games to play or buy that are £10-£20

1)Players want to play it now, not in 6 months
2)Online player, and the online scene for (non-MMOs) is generally strongest at the beginning.
2.5) Competitive online player, and if you want the edge, you have to get started ASAP
3)It shows companies/developers that consumers enjoy that type of game
4)If you've had a steady job for a year or two, $60 every few months isn't really all that much (generally. Obviously some people get wrecked between bills and lowpay job)
5)Many people who can afford a AAA gaming machine can also afford the price of a AAA game

6)Used game market used to be very limited. The rare Gamestop or Blockbuster, and that was it. Rise of the internet is making bargain hunting better, but many parents/age 30+ customers are still in the go-to-store-and-buy-a-game habit
7)Pre-order bonuses (which generally seem stupid to me, but people do buy for them)
8)The game is hot. Their friends are playing it. They won't be in 6 months
9)People are fiscally irresponsible. Dramatic prices of Apple, Abercrombie&Fitch, and other designer items show this.
10)More resources invested=more enjoyment from the game. It's easy to buy a dozen cheap games for a buck apiece and then never play them, but if you shelled out $60, you bet you'll sit down and at least put a few hours into it.

11)The game is guaranteed to work, or you can get a refund. No longer as much of a problem, but used gaming stuff used to screw people over (and used electronics still does).
12)Collectors. While there may be a collectors edition released later, there may not be. They want a pristine copy.
13)PC gamers don't have a used game market for competitive prices (although Steam and Good Ol Gaming and similar sites are negating this)

I'm sure I could come up with more, but you get the idea. I think the last time I shelled top dollar for a game was Guild Wars 2, for PC. Mostly I use Steam nowadays (although I'm starting to grow leery of having too many games on Steam).
