The way was forward, that's all that mattered, the little trail of stones that led to the canyons end. Ezrah had kept little else in his mind since the few necessary realities clicked into place, his comfort growing with each subsequent teleport. He'd closed his eyes again, blocking out even Andra's benevolent illusions. They weren't necessary, only the path was necessary and the strange quasi-faith that told the boy the queer powers boiling through his veins would take him where he needed to go. If he kept those thoughts in his head and shunt aside all the rest, then he just might see the end of this without having to suffer the psychic shock of falling into some infinite abyss. Yes, that was a good plan, a good goal, quite beyond winning or losing some madman's contest. Ezrah cleared his mind, and stepped forward. In the fleeting instant before the darkness swallowed him, he felt a twinge, a twist in the corner of his mind meant to watch for Minerva's trickery, and swore.

To some extent, the lad's thinking was not incorrect. The thought of the point in time and space, brought him to that point, without fail. The magic didn't fail, and Ezrah would spend a goodly deal of time reaffirming that mantra to himself in the next few hours to come. No, the magic couldn't fail... but the body might. Ezrah had never given physics very much thought before, a subject only rarely touched upon in his former prophet's more esoteric works. That wasn't quite fair, in Ezrah's estimation, after all, physics could be a right important buggering ***** when it wanted to be. Ezrah landed on the platform he'd been aiming for, he just hadn't expected it to be moving. For that matter, he hadn't expected to be falling, screaming like a drowning cat, or throwing himself into a mad, slap dash series of small teleports to heave his body back onto the pillar's stony surface. He lay there, sprawled out like a piece of flotsam, panting, eyes lolling about, and pondering the current location of his stomach. Ah, so the pillars moved now.

"Well fuck all kinds of duck...."

Skylar held into the cliff face of her pillar for dear life as it cracked and rose. Then the spinning happened. The goddamn spinning tumbled her stomach something fierce, she pressed her forehead on the rock and focussed on not spewing any spittle with a dash of stomach acid up. With a few breaths, she gathered up the confidence to peek at the whirling pillars and noticed something peculiar, some of the pillars were spinning even faster than the rest. While it might've been part of Minerva's trick, it did seem odd. Skylar slowly made her way towards the anomaly (could it even be called that in Minerva's mad mindscape?), each step requiring some measure of willpower in the powers bestowed unto her and a scrabble for roughewn handholds in the cliff faces. Finally, when she was close enough, Skylar noticed some familiar faces peeking out of the whirling chucks of rock.

"You alright?" She managed to bark out to the little group.

The Sparrow assigned to aid Selena found her hand permanently glued to her forehead as she watched the pale vixen struggle. Ezrah's words about small animals and tiny brains scared her enough to abandon her bat plan, but after a few teleports she was beginning to regret that decision. Each jaunt rattled her senses and temporary vertigo only made matters worse.

Then the platforms started spinning.

OH SHIT!

The sudden jolt of motion sent Selena stumbling backwards into Sparrow, knocking the poor girl clear off the platform. Without thinking, Selena twisted her body as she moved and followed the girl over the ledge. By some miracle she'd managed to grab hold of the child's wrist with one hand and the ledge of the platform with the other.

The platform was still spinning, however, and she wasn't sure she had the strength to pull them both up.

"HANG ON!" she screamed as she clung for dear life.

Wait...

Selena looked down at the small girl flapping about. "DISMISS YOURSELF, GODS DAMMIT!"

Watching one of the far spires, Will concentrated. When the platform they were standing on drifted to some semblance of being horizontal, he heaved his sword from the rock with a grunt and sheathed it. Shifting his grip from Langston's shoulder to his hand, he picked his spot and focused.

They vanished in a ripple, traversing the distance instantly. When they burst back into corporeality, Will felt a sense of weightlessness. If Langston's power hadn't slowed everything, Will would have been unable to grab the edge of the platform as they fell. They had appeared several feet above the platform's edge, turned upside down, and began to fall. But Will's hand found stone, and clamped tight. There was a burst of pain that made lights explode in Will's eyes, and he felt something give in the arm that held Langston, and he felt the other man slip.

Then he teleported again, and the two fell in a crumpled heap on the platform's top. As all this happened, Langston's power seemed to slip, and they nearly went careening back over the edge, but soon it reasserted itself, and Will climbed to his feet.

"My fault," he said. "I was trying to compensate for there being two of us so I must have aimed higher or something. Guess we need to stop analyzing it like that. Feel, don't think, or some such rubbish."

Thinking back to what he remembered of his field emergency training, Will grabbed the bicep of his dislocated shoulder, and wordlessly braced his hand on the other man's back. With a pained roar and what could almost be described as a crunch, he popped his shoulder back in. "Denissa's fucking TITS!" he growled, blinking away watering eyes.

Several things were happening at once and young Sparrow was finding it next to impossible to focus on any one thing, was she hanging from a ledge? Yes, yes she was!

"DISMISS YOURSELF, GODS DAMMIT!"

The Sparrow that Selena was hanging onto nodded quickly before disappearing in a puff of smoke, then another, and another, until there was only one. She had to regroup her thoughts, figure out what was going on, then deal with it.

'So much for trying to do this the hard way.' the young girl thought, slightly disappointed in herself.

Glancing up, she found herself next to Maggy. "I know this is trainin' an' all, but when are we ever gonna be in this kind of situation?" She chuckled nervously. "Terrifyin' mindscapes aren't really a day to day occurrence in the city are they?"

Minerva could have happily watched them scurry and stumble about for hours. However, when she felt the presence of The Old Man entering her dream, she knew it was time to bring the game to an end. With a thought, she willed into existence a silver and crystal cup, on a rocky platform that spun like a top right in the middle of the maelstrom that the novices were trapped in.

Langston wasn't exactly sure what happened, but whatever it almost got them both killed. How was he suppose to focus on maintaining his manipulation if his arm was getting practically ripped out of its socket? Maybe blindly trusting the young captain wasn't the best idea, confidence isn't always a sure sign of competence. He kept his eyes closed for a few more seconds, shutting out the world around him as he firmly reestablished control over the surrounding time stream. There was that pressure again, a heavy throbbing sensation that built up behind his eyes and radiated out to the rest of his body. When he chanced to open an eye, he saw Will tending to his injured arm and whisking the water from his eyes. Panting, Langston weakly grabbed his own shoulder and began to speak. Before a word could pass his lips he heard a distorted voice above the maelstrom, practically plucking the thoughts from his head, "You alright?"

He turned to see Skylar pressed up against an adjacent platform, drifting slowly by. Even at this seemingly reduced speed everything looked absolutely insane, these were truly the inner workings of a mad woman. As the wiry man looked into the surrounding chaos a strange glint caught his eye, it glimmered brilliantly, like a... shiny cup? It was just a cup... What kind of trick could this be?

'Something else?! Gods-WHY?'

"I-I think so!" He responded, his knees buckling under the strain of his powers. Pointing a shaking finger up at glowing chalice he yelled out to anyone listening, "What's that for?"

"What's that for?"

Will looked up to see what Langston was pointing at, and saw the cup. Combing a hand through his beard, he thought back to what the old man had said.

"I think that's our goal," he replied. "One way or another, we all have to make it to that cup."

Flexing his recently popped back in shoulder and wincing, Will looked from Langston to Skylar. "Langston can't hold on much longer," he said. "Skylar, do you think you can get him to the cup?"
