Sweet
you forgot Heinlein and Moorcock.
Heinlein = starship troopers, basically the humans and tyranid in 40k.
Moorcock = basically Tolkien but everything is also evil or has an eviler counter part(elves and dark elves), also created the star of chaos.

on topic: this might be the cause of MoP, who knows?

It's the chineese, so what gonna do? Before the Cold War, we could have stopped all this easily, just by placing embargos on Chineese goods. Now, however, that we've allowed them to spread, the knockoffs can come from anywhere and anyone. Italy faces a particularly bad problem with this, as Chineese sweatshops have set up, and are driving out local, honest businesses by using cheap materials and lower prices, under the same coveted "Made in Italy" tag in the fasion industry, sullying Italy's reputation in that field, and creating a trade defecit. China needs to be dealt with, and soon, or it could create unnecessary problems of racism, segregation, and skepticism across the globe as nations try to salvage their export industry.
Meh, China will collapse in a few years when the thousands of workers from their baby boom get old and they have to pay for the. Any attempt to call US debt would end in their demise seeing as if we stop buying they will have no one till sell shitty things to.

This reminds me of an ex-friend who was hired to design websites for professional businesses and he just ripped textures and models / animations from World of Warcraft and used them all over the sites. I wish I knew the websites URLS.

Also, is it bad that 90% of my ideas for posting on this article involved racist "you must be this tall" jokes? I need some new material >.>
Isn't that a Japanese stereotype? A lot of the people I were around in China were actually taller than me, and I stand at 6' 2".
Depends on the region I hear. The parts I went to (mostly southern) I felt like fricken king kong all the time. (though I'm 6'6")

I do recall hearing about this a couple months back. Such a blatant rip-off... and yet I doubt Blizzard will be able to do anything about it, Chinese copyright law being what it is (practically non-existent).
The last time I remember this coming up was them ripping off Gundam.

-snip-

Honestly, with the economy in the shape it is, I half expect that if the world ends (or ends as we know it) next year as some nutjobs predict, it might very well be the result of a war over this, as the lines are very quickly being drawn between East Vs. West. A lot of those with anti-US sentiments will talk about the US's debt, but at the same time they tend to overlook what's owed to us, including by some of those creditors, and the same applies to a lot of countries as well. Things like the US's reduction in borrowing power might have those with anti-US sentiments cheering for a number of reasons, but in the end that's simply moving things closer to a head, because it's making it more crucial that the US get things sorted with China, and while Blizzard's IPs are a drop in the bucket you can pretty much point to Joyland as an example of EXACTLY what I'm talking about accross a spectrum of thousands upon thousands of differant products and properties, both physical and purely intellectual.
Very well put. While I don't think I could have made such a detailed or verbose post on it, this was partly what I knew, partly what I suspected, and partly things I had no idea about (like that they really made that much money from it, for example).

I was going to bet that, if anything, they would go to war to call in their debt... but it seems more the opposite at this point, with the rest of the world calling them on their illegal actions.

That said, if there is a World War III and it involves nuclear weapons, we are quite unfortunately screwed. If it doesn't end up using them, then perhaps I can find a nice cabin in the mountains with some emergency tools and learn to live off the land...

...or maybe this will all just continue as it has been going for some time and nothing significant will change.

Yep, though it looks like the park will fall in on itself before Blizzard even has the chance to sue.
yeah more or less this...

I don't care if they're underdeveloped or not, I don't care if I sound racist, I have serious problems with the majority of things that China does. I don't even LIKE WoW/Starcraft and I hate that they are allowed to do this shit...

My first tought: "Well that doesn't look a lot lik-HOLY CRAP THAT'S ARTHAS!!! That Illidan is looking pretty yellow. Is that a Protoss Nexus???" But yeah, it's not like Blizzard is going to sue them, when there's perfectly viable private server hosts and gold sellers in their vicinity.

Blizzard's karma finally hitting back.

It would be interesting to see, although i would dare not set foot near that rollercoaster. the irony of the situation is funny but doesn't exactly inspire confidence in safety standards.

One is almost inclined to remember when Evony did the exact same thing by stealing images from models' websites and Sid Meier's Civilization.

The amount of xenophobia and lack of knowledge of how the world works on this thread scares me :(

I can only see this park getting shut down for safety reasons, and I'm not too sure that's even likely.

But the place does look like a fun place to go.

Yes but one must remember (or at least know) that Evony (or the guy who owns it) is a complete fraud company owned by one man. He himself owns about a hundred different domains of similar names to Evony, WoW, you name it and frequently scams the ever living crap out of anyone stupid enough to even go anywhere near that crap. Hell he is even a big hacker. Of course the government cant do shit about him because he lives in a country with no extradition laws and generally doesn't give a shit.

On topic it is sad and pathetic but really might as well make them loose money on the crappy job they did and\or get jailed for injuring someone with that craptastic deathtrap. Just think back what happened to Six Flags.

To be honest we are making the assumption that warcraft/starcraft invented many of these ideas, i mean come on the starcraft collosus for example is a war of the worlds rip off and im pretty sure tolkien invented orcs.

Im not convinced, similar yes but not a rip.

thought the sign with "starcraft" is, surely theres a reason though?
I can see your point, but I don't believe you've looked at all the pictures, when first looking I agreed with you, yeah similar but not identical, a lot of great theatre for example is done by stealing the ideas of other greats... However later we see pretty much carbon copies of the Litch King and Sylvannas, almost every detail is the same right down to the exact same skull decoration on Sylv's shoulders, this is not coincidence, it's blatant plagiarism. The gnome is even the exact same artwork of a blizzard piece of artwork.
I'm all for adapting ideas and having similar ideas, but to have the exact same ideas with the exact same detail is more than just coincidence.

Don't even know why I wrote that much on it haha, I'm sure Blizzard has enough cash :p

Looks more like they're borrowing images and creatures commonly found in mythology. Which is what WoW did too. In fact, with it's heavy reliance on mythology, modern fiction, Table Top RPG's, science fiction, and Pop Culture references, WoW is about the most unoriginal game in existence. It would be ironic in the extreme for WoW to sue over this.

Some of the art design of these creatures might be influenced by WoW, in the same way Anime was influenced by Disney animation, but that's hardly a crime.

This is why socialism applied is bad. It doesn't encourage original thinking at all, and ends up with cheap knockoffs of whatever may be popular.

Thank the Light for your rare voice of reason. Nobody is going to start world war 3. Life is not like a video game, but some of you people seem to get your worldview from Command & Conquer or some Tom Clancy novel.

So can you please direct me to the original theme park that Blizzard built in secret? Or do I have to resort to going to some cheap knockoff in China to fulfill my geek dreams of seeing a WoW/Starcraft theme park?
