"God hates Superman"... What a fight that would be!

Ugh, more Christians making the rest of us look bad.

Seriously, it irritates me how a couple random churches do stupid crap like this and make the majority of us Christians look like ignorant and over-sensitive morons. But I think what irritates me more is how everyone seems to see this and think it represents the majority of Christians...

It doesn't.
It's probably closer to original dogmatic "Christianity" though. Which you've all labeled yourself with (as "Christians") without any qualifiers. So they've got good reason to be in the wrong...

Considering the "original" Christianity would be one that follows the principles Jesus laid out, that makes little sense. After all, Jesus repeatedly condemned the Pharisees for being too much... well, like this.

Going to a convention to openly claim that the contents of said convention are acting as idols for those involved (a matter that couldn't even possibly be known by them) is ignorant and not in line with how Jesus acted and taught. And I don't know what you're thinking of as original, but Jesus, his teachings, and his actions would be the "original Christianity."

They claim that comic fans worship 'Superman like God'? Well, I don't see any of these fans basing their way of life and morals on Superman. I don't see any societies basing thier very groundwork on Superman. Conversely, I don't see any of these fans preaching hate, promoting predjudice and generally disregarding the wellbeing and rights of their fellow man, in Superman's name. Perhaps we can blame illiteracy (which is ironic that the target is comics!) for these people not knowing what idolatry really means. More precisely, we can blame their overwhelming stupidity. Notice that some of their previous protest signs have read, "Thank God for 9/11". Are these the kind of poeple whom God wants on his side? I don't want to speak for the Big Guy but a few bolts of lighting could fix this!
Unfortunately, if God struck down everyone who said something stupid, he'd never get anything else done.
Well what else is he doing with his time? He's always "busy". What is it? Paperwork? Long lunches? The Big Guy makes the Universe, and at first He's really hands on and proactive, but then he installs layers of middle management, bureaucracy and red tape, and we almost never hear from him again! I doubt He's got more pressing issues and I would think that (literally) firing some of these inept management contractors would be high on his list.
If I had to guess, I'd say he's either a)in a meeting (watching internet porn) or b) on vacation. He really seems to be taking a hands-off approach to management recently. Maybe he's trying encourage initiative?

I wish I had the money to pay people to dress up like all of the major super villains from comic book history and protest along side of them.

Lex Luthor standing with WBC holding a sign that reads "Superman's the Devil"...

What am I thinking? I've got photoshop!
Haha, you also need a medal.

I here ya. But then again, I don't think as many Christians (in America at least) are still like this to gay people.

I wonder if a publisher is faking this protest for PR reasons or if it's really the WBC protesting. Certainly no one would put it past EA or Activision to hire some faker protesters for some unannounced project. They already did it once for Dante's Inferno.

WBC does seem to be a bunch of crazies, but I assume they're non-violent. Let them protest, it's not as if anyone will listen to them.

Some of you guys try too hard to understand the WBC. I will give them this, at least they hate (or claim to hate) every group with equal fervor.

I so want to go there, just to stand there with my own sign saying, "I love my fictional books just as much as the WBC loves theirs!"

Alright, cool, they don't like Batman, Superman, Flash, Captain America etc etc, I get it, I can live without them, but surely they must appreciate that Jamie Madrox is worth idol worship?

Please...?

As a comic fan and catholic, I hope a group of people dressed as the Justice League and/or Avengers do something funny to these assholes.

Honestly, why can't these freaks do what all other overzealous religious nut-jub cults do?

And I don't know what you're thinking of as original, but Jesus, his teachings, and his actions would be the "original Christianity."
Given that religion is a dogmatic system of belief (i.e. one must believe that Jesus was a son of god, performed supernatural deeds, basicly killed himself for 3 days and then respawned to go to heaven (not much sacrifice there...) to be "christian"), then an authoritative scripture is needed for it to exist, which happens to be the bible. In which is found all kinds of abhorrent norms and suggestions (especially against those who happen to be so unfortunate as to dare being gay or atheist etc.). Jesus's penchant for suggesting selfmutilation, racism against kanaan women, and suicidal tendencies aside, the rest of the bible is "canon" too, and that's where stuff gets really nasty. There's plenty to reference for the WBC, and I'm sure the 2000 year old men who wrote it would feel closer to their views of gay people than those of moderate (i.e. "less"; a moderately strong human is arguably not "strong" at all) "christians".

The "obligated only on Christ" view is decidedly of modern origin, and the interpretions of the bible have certainly changed (as the churches lost power and immunity to wreck its messages upon humanity...) but a text should of course be interpreted in the historical and lingvistic context of the time it was written - the writer could not possibly use words and meanings in ways neither he nor his audience could understand at the time - making that the dogmatic "christianity" in a historic/lingvistic ("objective") sense.

I just realized something! They're hypocrites! :D

How do I know this? They go on about idols and how it's wrong to have idols. Yet, they have a church, they have a book, they have statues of their religion. And if you go by the definition of what an idol is (Not a person), these items are idols, therefore they are wrong in their God's eyes.

Just tell that to their faces. Let them try to argue that.

For some reason I have the urge to go to Comic-Con and pose for photo ops with these people.

Made all the better if I was in costume.
