Why is it that I'm reading all these posts by people attempting to defend the books/movie/whatever, and they often seem to say things like:

I don't get all the hate. I read the books, and they were alright, I suppose. I kind of hated the characters and the story, but I enjoyed it.

This baffles me. If I read a story wherein I come away hating, you know, EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BOOK, I don't say I liked it. I say I hated it. It's not good. I don't defend it. Is it the herd mentality I'm witnessing here?
No...it's menly men trying to get laid by said girls. My god, we should all embrace this book. And watch the Notebook. Then we'll all be rolling in the women!

Girls love romance and don't like fighting, that is, girls who coo over babies, think about boys too much and are complete fucking pansies. I'm a girl and unless a movie has an in-depth and interesting story, lots of action and blood, likeable characters, or all of the above, it can fuck right off.

Guess what I think of Twilight. :D
ok yes i am a twilight fan girl to say that first off. however i have my reasons.

but to address my quote up here, i HATE romance, girls cooing over babies etc every reason you've listed for girls to like twilight is NOT me. I go out rock climbing with the boys and playing hockey both ice and street the goal, to beat the hell out of the other people playing with you. That being said, I was raised to want a guy like edward(gentleman, hold open doors etc not the vampire asshole thing he also does)hell not just want, but expect guys to be like that. i'm not deluded enough to think that. i'm highly cynical to the point of ever finding a guy under 50 like that who is even remotely attracted to me. I like the idea of edward. I've always thought of myself as a vampire-pirate ever since i was like 5 and i'm 24 now. That said, I've always had soft spots for vampire movies(interview was great i'll give you that)and pirate movies(my favorite two being pirates, the porn ones)as well as books. i have anne rice's entire vampire chronicles as well as various other authors. they may not be good but....i like robert pattinson but NOT because of twilight or harry potter.(which for the record i'm a harry potter fan too). I like him because he does amazing music. The Carter Burnwell(i think that's how you spell his name not much time to look it up)piece "Bella's Lullaby" that you see him playing in the movie, he actually plays. He also has a song on the soundtrack called "Never Think" that he actually sings and i believe plays guitar on. I know he can play the guitar. I find him attractive for THAT reason. Music is a huge part of my life, piano and guitar are two instruments i have NOT learned to play yet. I was a band geek. My current boy plays piano and i love him for that and the fact he's a complete gamer and a nerd.....anyways though. i love some of the quotes in the books. In fact even though i've just been putting the movie on since yesterday for background noise, I prefer the books. Which reminds me i need to get mine back from my friends....hmmmmm

Hell, I read the whole series. They are great books. Standards by which all future teen vampire novels will be judged.

Just kidding. They sucked. I read them because they are fast and I wanted to know what everybody saw in them. I kept hoping there would be something interesting in the plot. But I understand why people liked them. They are escapist fantasies for girls. As I said in my post.

way to many chicks, age 13-21 have the hots for Vampires.

ironic isnt it ?! they are horny for vampires without any blood circulation, meaning no erection, and you dont wanna tell a dude with fangs to eat pussy!
It's the whole biting = penetration thing.

Although pretty much every one of the bastard spawn of Dracula has progressively watered down the rape metaphor that it used to represent.

Go figure.

Understanding why someone would like them is different than what I was saying. You said they sucked. You didn't say you like them despite the apparent suckiness. I've seen a post or two here with that general idea, though. And that's what I don't get.

Because Twilight is the ultimate fanfic
Makes sense, it does appear to be written by a somewhat literate twelve-year old.

I have an obsession with reading a series through to the very end, and this is the ONE SERIES I could not finish. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of books I've read, this is the one.

At least the werewolves don't sparkle too, or we'd have a problem.
I feel sorry for you if you pick up the Eragon series then

They just don't want to be mean and tell people what they really think of the pablum that they read. Because then they'd be anti-fans as opposed to afanists. You know, insulting the book is insulting everyone who liked it by proxy. ;)

I'm not sure as they're particularly healthy as escapist fantasies.

I mean what does Bella want out of life? Nothing, apparently, other than to be a wife.

At least Anita Blake finds time to kick ass when she isn't shagging anything that moves (The Anita Blake books make no bones about the fact that they're hardcore porn for women, which I think is far more worthy, Twilight just happens to have a suspiciously identical setup, with more wistful gazing and less shagging, the softcore version, if you will).

Not by a frickin long shot. Bella is the ultimate submissive character in her own drama. She requires not one, but two immortal protectors, and a whole host of other minor-protectors, just to be safe from the enemies she makes because she's just so unique and special (but plain). Not to mention she gets (sort of) suicidal when she gets dumped - to get that magical someone's attention, even though she admits being in love with the next guy that came along, just 'not that way - not that fast.'

Even though I quoted the wrong post, you concurred with the post I meant to quote, so you in effect said they sucked. No need to get all uppity. It'll be ok. I was trying to comprehend something that made, quite frankly, no sense.

And, just for future reference:

If you want it to be possessive, it's just I T S, but if you want it to be a contraction, it's I T apostrophe S. Scalliwag.

Crap boring film, crap boring books, and the actor they cast for "Edward Cullen" isn't even good looking, he looks weird.
