I don't dislike any class types, but heavy weapons and heavy armour just feel too slow and clunky. If I'm playing a warrior, I always use light armour and very rarely use two handers.

I rarely play as a mage class or a tanking one.

I have always played a warrior archetype or rogue(rarely) if need be.

I know a guy who played basically Drizzt's pale cousin or some shit. He was literally Drizzt (He had a panther as his companion, he took a multi class in Barbarian for rage etc.) but he was a "Really Tanned" elf.
Hehehe.

I don't recall ever playing a Halfling/Hobbit. I love Dwarves, especially in Computer RPG's, but I don't think I've played a halfling. The small weapons deter me (or should I say, deterred me as there's no small weapons in 4th ed) and I've never played them in Computer type games as I prefer fighters who're as big as possible in those situations.

I keep my mages and sneaky dudes to the table top usually.
They're more fun to roleplay than "Ug the Half-Orc Barbarian" who has 3 charisma and 3 intelligence.
And there's not much point being suave with 18 charisma when all of the persuade options are in computerised RPG's is "Don't fight me" worded differently, which is the opposite of what my metagame mind wants. Gimme the experience.

Also, I don't want to derail the thread, but does anyone actually like the multiclassing in 4th Ed? I like 4th ed generally, but the multiclassing is a little... bland.

I have Dragon Age: Origins, and despite the fact that it crashes (I need to find a fix), I play as Morrigan (Mage) to protect my team from a distance. My character(Knight) I find much, much more fun to play.

I'm especially thinking about Fallout right now... screw diplomacy, I'm shooting my way out of this.

I almost never end up playing the classes that every one else plays, even if I have no prior experience to the game.

This usually ends up being the ranged class or the healer.

Generally reserve rogues and mages for my second playthrough in single player RPGs. In MMORPGs I always play every class there is, since I'm an altoholic of the worst kind.
As for races; I don't play the miniature ones(hobbit, gnome) and elves. Except for Night Elves...!

In terms of actual races, I never play dwarves, gnomes, humans or things that are very close to human, but slightly different (Third eye, seven nipples etc.) I dont really want to play as a boring old human or dwarf when there are bad-ass other races availible - like elves (Usually different enough to qualify) and then the majority of the Horde in WoW, or the draenei from the Alliance.

In terms of classes... no preference really, apart from a general dislike of paladins/ holy warriors / anything that worships a deity and uses its magic / priests...

Warriors have a tendency of being sluggish, stupid and lacking finesse, so I tend to avoid them unless I personally control a significant amount of their attacks.

I never play the Melee DPS/stealth types. I can do healer, I can do tank, and I can do mage. Rogue? Never.

As for a race, I tend to pick the 'evil' races if they are available. Not because they are evil, I always play the good guy if I can, but I like the ugly races. My Ogre Warlock in Everquest 2 remains my favorite MMO character ever. In WoW I played Tauren, in the CoX games and Champions online I made huge monstrous things.

I generally don't play human if I have a choice, and other than Dragon Age Origins because the City Elf origin was so badass I never play a pansy elf. Hate elves.

I never play warriors / tanks. I like range and speed, pulling, CC'ing, kiting. Hunting targets down without them ever touching me. I miss the Vanilla WoW hunter :(

I don't play mages. Too not-hitting-shit-with-a-sword for me. Also I can never keep track of all my spells.
Fastest ninja in the west, yo. Yeah, I really don't get the appeal of mages. I like warrior style "whacking stuff", roguish sneaking, outsmarting and archery, but I really don't see the appeal in playing a glass cannon.

A friend of mine always plays mages and he explained it as:"I don't have to do anything. I just sit back, let the tanks do the hard work and worry about their health, while I stay in back and throw fireballs. Easy." That just doesn't sound fun to me. I wanna get all up in the enemys face and engage in interpersonal violence. Stabby, stabby, kill-kill, you dig?

As for race, I never bother with brutish races like orcs or dwarves. I generally play some variation on rogue, so I need nimble and speedy. Humans, elves or whatever the equivalent in a particular game is.

I like playing mages in fantasy games, and in sci-fi type srttings I usually go for a sniper/assassin type character. For some reason I can't stand playing as warriors- maybe I just hate tanking.

I usually play the most Nordic looking character, because that way they at least have some chance at partially looking at me. -And also I'm sub-consciously racist or something I guess-

As for classes, I'm fine with any of them mostly.

After my first playthrough though, I'll do and try whatever.

After lots of RPG experience in tabletop, and western and Japanese video games, I've discovered that I generally cannot stand hybrid classes.

I'm naturally a pretty indecisive person. So when I'm playing a class without a clearly defined role, I deliberate too much over questions like, "What should I specialize in? Which skills should I rank up?" Also, when you're a hybrid, there's often friction between what you want to play and what your teammates expect you to do. I played a shaman in WoW, and while I wanted to be a ranged damage dealer, people kept busting my chops to be a healer, because healing classes are always in demand in MMORPGs like WoW.

After that experience, I realized that I have a lot more fun when I first as myself "What do I want my character to do really well? What do I want his role to be?" And then, I simply make all decisions about race, class, stats, and skills towards maximizing effectiveness in that role.

In DnD for example, if I want my role to be "offensive magic damage," I'm going to make a Sorcerer (most amount of spells per day) and pick the best offensive spells I can. If I want to be the one who tackles the stealth and trap challenges, then I'm going to make a rouge and focus on my stealthy and trap-related skills, even if it means I'm not so great in combat.

I've played Dragon Age numerous times, and I've played as a beatstick warrior, a tanking warrior, a damage-focused mage, a kick-ass archery rouge, a dual-wielding backstabby rogue, and in my next playthrough I'm gonna play as a healing & support mage, just so I can see what that's like.

In short, while I do enjoy playing the "rouge" types the most, I'll really play and enjoy just about anything, so long as I'm focused on serving one particular area of strategy better than anyone else in the party.

I never play as a Dwarf. I'm not sure why but I just don't like them.

Classwise, usually not a healer. S'boring.
