@all the Blezinski haters: Have any of you actually fully read all of what he's saying? Or did you all just read some headlines and then jump to conclusions?
For starters, read this all the way [http://dudehugespeaks.tumblr.com/post/53457606850/brutal-honest-thoughts-on-this-whole-debacle] and then tell me that he doesn't know what he's talking about.
OT: Thank goodness. Unreal fans have been screaming for a good sequel to UT for a while now since UT3 was lackluster to say the least.
Most of the "haters" aren't questioning his knowledge. There's a bit of irony in telling people to get the whole story when you don't seem interested in what people are actually saying in the first place.

Yep. And you know what? I actually liked GoW3. And I'm hardly a "dudebro."
I enjoyed Black Ops 2, and I'm an ambidextrous bisexual. Using one's self as an argument against a trend doesn't tend to prove much.
...Unless you do think that by my example, your standard Call of Duty player is ambidextrous and bisexual.
What you're saying is analogous to responding to "smoking causes cancer" with "I smoke, and I don't have caner." Which is great for you. It doesn't really mean much.
Or, maybe a more apt example, people denying that MLP is for kids by saying they watch it and theyr're hardly kids. Well, that's nice, but are they the intended audience? I doubt the show would be on the air without kids supporting it. And without the dudebros, Marcus would be sitting on the side of the road with a sign saying "will bromance for food."

I know the Escapist here isnt very fond of Cliffy B but do you guys have to stomp him every time he says something?
Just when he tries to court the people he's previously bitched and moaned about in a stunning display of stupidity, short-sightedness and/or hypocrisy.
Seriously, man, this is a strange time to be drawing a line in the sand.

...even though the only thing Gears of War had in common with "dudebro" shooters is that they both have guns in them.
Seriously, the GoW series couldn't stand any more apart from typical modern shooters, stop trying to group them together.
Except the fanbase, which is what largely defines a dudebro shooter as dudebro.
Oh, and being one of the big pioneers of regenerating health as a trend.
And the propensity for narrow halls and smaller environments.
And the slow, lumbering hulk of a man deal.
And a large dose of gritty brownness.
And....Seriously, do I need to go on? Gears was a regular trailblazer in pretty much every matter that brought the dudebros to the yard. And that includes the stuff he's complaining modern gamers are familiar with. It's almost on par with the creators of the Walking Dead claiming we are into too much zombie material or something.
And you know what? Dudebro shooters are fine. There's no real reason for people to be bothered by the label. That doesn't really change the market. Gears titles are not some counter-culture gaming phenomenon. They were some of the Xbox's biggest sellers, especially the early ones. I hear the last couple haven't fared as well. I don't care too much, as my interest waned during 2. But honestly, whatever floats people's boat.

yesssssssssssssssss. Whatcha got Cliffy-B? Time for some bad-ass rocket jumping and railguns. Let these kiddos get some real action. They'll friggin' love it!
That's...Rather optimistic.
It seems more likely the "kiddies" in question will stick with the familiar. Just because there exists a predecessor genre doesn't mean that everyone in the successor genre cares. That's not to say people will never buy this. And if people want an arena shooter, good for them. Personally, I could do without any genre of shooter for a while, but it seems the market still thinks everything has to be a shooter, so that ain't happening.
But to assume "the kiddies" are going to love it is similar to a grandfather assuming his grandkids are going to enjoy the same sort of media he did.
