Yes we need a PC-exclusive proper PC Arena Shooter in this day filled with generic slowpaced Military Console Shooters that just copy eachother. Fastpaced Arena FPS just doesn't work on consoles game controllers and therefore doesn't belong in there. Same as Real Time Strategy doesn't work on consoles and is therefore on PCs. Like someone already pointed out, i also think it's really stupid to make a universal version when other platforms inability to handle this types of games, cripples down the enjoyment even on the platform that can handle these kinds of games. I sersiouly have started to think that there are even PC developers who are just so young that they also take console gameplay for granted (Aimdownsights, regenerating health, sprint, weaponlimit and linear leveldesign).Shadow-Phoenix said:And what does wanting to make an Arena shooter do for the entire industry and those "COD kids?", absolute fuck all to be honest, especially if he's going to declare support for one specific platform that he's lambasted in the past.
I don't think we need an Arena shooter, I think we need one that could be on all platforms, none of this one way street bullshit.
I think PC should atleast have more of these types of different FPS games (such as Half-Life, Timeshift, Hard Reset and Wrack). There are plenty of PC FPS that handle like a typical CoD game (console shooter). Someone needs to show people that there are other kinds of FPS also that people greatly miss very much, and who's better person to show than Cliff? Afterall, he is the lead designer behind UT99. I also think that he had been blinded by the money overtime and also received a lot of presurring from Microsoft and Epic Games. I think he has possibly come back to senses. He started with PC and is back. With PC he is also not limited with ideas and mechanics due to consoles restrictions but it's back to complete designing freedom due to PC's possibilities. When you're with a major AAA publisher you have to go the way of the suits, since otherwise it's the way of the door (get a new job)..
You seriously think that these kids don't need to have a chance to see what a REAL FPS is? They been raised by Call of Duty and most of them think like Call of Duty and Battlefield are the onle two Shooters in this world. I've seen people saying absolutely seriously that Halo (2001) was released before Quake (1996), and that Quake is a ripoff from Halo. Most of these kids don't know Quake since they are so old games that these kids think they don't look good enough (and they do show their age in the graphic section) but the gameplay is still 100% solid. Quake and UT take pure skill unlike CoD.
Anyone who is interested in experiencing real proper online Arena Shooter, need to give QuakeLive.com a try. Quake Live is free to play Quake3 where there is NO PAY TO WIN. You can only buy maps and stuff. Everyone has the same weapons in a beginning of each match. Everyone therefore starts equally.
Some false information in there or what?Zachary Amaranth said:Oh, and being one of the big pioneers of regenerating health as a trend.
And the propensity for narrow halls and smaller environments.
And the slow, lumbering hulk of a man deal.
And a large dose of gritty brownness.
Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) was the first popular FPS that had regenerating shield. Halo2 (2004) had regenerating health which Call of Duty franchise started using with CoD2 (2005), and has been using eversince to this day.
Call of Duty 2 (2005) had already really linear and non-exploraleble levels. Gears of War came in 2006 for consoles and in 2007 for PC.
Halo: Combat Evolved was the first popular FPS to be slowpaced (even Goldeneye 64 had faster movement), but Call of Duty popularized slowpaced movement because it has existed since 2003 (Call of Duty1) and has been using it eversince. Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare blew the bank because it was streamlined and that way more people could play the game and be good at it. And CoD4 did sell better than Gears, so GoW is not as big of a deal as CoD. Because afterall, AAA publishers have been copying the formula which sold best (Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare) eversince 2007, so obviously it's CoD's fault and not as much GoW's fault.
