How about creating a product that just absolutely inspires, influences, and outright flatlines their expectations, therefore making it seem to the person that it would be a deep and immense moral dilemna to obtian the product without having to directly purchase it?
The problem isn't that people are pirating games...it's that the game makers themselves are not being innovative and original enough with their concepts. People of intellectual, artistic, and worthy merit will buy products that contain such qualities. Otherwise they are just giving people a reason to pirate.
Oncemore: Address the actual problems. Not the shortsighted ones which demand productivity and market value. It's hypocritical considering how games originally started. Developers and the creators of these games are feeling more and more entitled as time goes on. Reap the rewards of these by creating astounding, mind shattering, colossal works of art.
It will benefit the industry in the longrun. Not alienating the people you are here to entertain and fascinate. No. I am not endorsing piracy as I believe it is thievery, however it shows that there is a declining number in people willing to purchase, not out of ease or monetary value, but because it just isn't worth it to them in their eyes. Astounding images over profit folks. You'll win it that way.
I think gamemakers consider the reason they are in business to be more for a profit based incentive. Guess what?
YOU.ARE.AN.ARTIST. You're there with the painter, the film maker, the musician, the speech writer, the product creator...you're there to GIVE to the public. Address this concern and you may deal with your little issue videogame maker. Otherwise you will go the route the other industries have gone. No one is entitled to a profit unless they astound or innovate.
