Any FPS... they play everything just to increase their K/D. They dont understand what TEAM means (although this is a problem with a lot of MMOs too, simply being near other people doesnt mean you are a team-player. It means you are standing near other players in your team, not the same thing.) and just do absolutely anything to win. Basically they are pathetic, but if you tell them that they all start being douchebags and yell racist, sexist and/or homophobic slurs around as if that doesnt prove your point.

EDIT: Oh and just further proof that the people on FPS' are idiots: I was playing on MW2 about a year ago and some 12 year olds were on, they started yelling at me and said something along the lines of "Stop playing kids games and get a job.". Now, I will explain why that was stupid ranging from most obvious to least obvious.

1)It has an age rating of 18, that game is for people of my age.
2)It was around 7PM, so their assumption that I was playing games instead of working was unfounded.
3)It was a Sunday.

EDIT2: Lets be honest, its this stupid belief that "trolling" is a real thing that is leading to every community of every game being infected and slowly dying. "Trolling" is just an excuse for being an asshole. Its not a personality defect... you are doing it on purpose, right? So you are cool. Yeah, sure(!)

I am supposed to feel bad because YOURE an asshole? Explain that to me? How is the joke on me, when its these people that are being dickheads? I dont understand it, you say "Haha, jokes on you. I was trolling." and I hear "Haha! I am pretending to be an asshole to hide that I am a much bigger asshole.".

(This is just the general you and not anyone in particular... although if you claim to be a "Troll" then obviously you fall into the aforementioned categorie.)

Team Fortress 2, something about the community is off putting, maybe it's the *extreme* love for the game as in they have hours in the 2000's and up played, or maybe the fact that they buy other games JUST to get hats.

Half-Life 2. Oddly, the honorable mention goes to another Valve game:
Left 4 Dead. (I can still play versus but Co-Op with randoms is to be avoided like the plague.)
How does Half Life 2 qualify if it's only a single player game? Are you talking about the Church of Freeman effect? I'll admit, I love HL2. I do think it's one of the top 5 games of the 2000s. I'm very much anticipating Episode 3. And I think just it's plain fun. But you know what? There are plenty of other games I'm anticipating, there are many other franchises I love just as much or better (BioShock comes to mind). So I feel ya on the extreme fanboy-ism of that game. Also I've never tried Left 4 Dead co-op, so thanks for the heads-up. I'll have to give a go a my friends house before I buy the game.
I'm going to have to agree with that. HL2 was amazing when it came out, even after it was delayed. I still enjoy playing it from time to time because the narrative is great. I can also recognize major design flaws and point to things that should've been cut from the final game, but I don't really see a point to criticize. Sure, if one is 14 and shallow or simple enough to put the highest priority on graphics, I guess I can see why one would come down harsh on the engine in 2011.

But I don't really see the stark fanboyism with Valve or Half-Life that I do with Halo, GTAIV, CoD and others mentioned in this thread. Valve has certainly earned the ire of many "old-school" gamers in their development cycle and priorities (where the hell is Episode 3?) and the fact that their games were really hit-or-miss for a while. It's also obvious why they have the respect of so many in the community. I don't see the blind fanboyism rumored to have spread throughout the world. I just see them as a game developer.

I haven't played L4D or L4D2 in about a year - is it really that bad now? I used to play Co-op exclusively because they actually did it right, but I'd always play with at least three other friends over Skype or Vent. Random Co-op games seem like they would be incredibly disorganized and not a lot of fun, especially if no one else cares. Versus was sweet when I tried it. A friend of mine were the only ones who liked that mode for a while, then we got others sucked into it, but I remember it being just as challenging (if not more so) than Co-op. Planning strategies as zombies. Fun shit.

I'd also like to nominate many of the hardcore Valve fanboys.
If you're talking about the ones on this site, then hell yes. I want Portal. I want L4D. I honestly couldn't give a shit about Half Life or, to a lesser extent TF2.

But the fanboys who rave about how HL is like the best shooter and everything? They discourage me from the game, honestly.

Although I have noticed a decline in said ranting/raving recently. So that's good, I guess.

Call Of Duty's community is the worst, Halo's comes in a late second.
I blame XBox Live. The community's of both of them have flooded out of the game and into my school, it's so fucking annoying.

Runescape.

Bad communities is why I usually stay away from all MMO's and, if I do play them, tend to be a lone wolf.

Every single race just has people trying to kill each other to try and get ahead. It's always car damage off and everyone goes mental. This game is a racing simulator, not demolition derby

Mass Eff- Wait, no, that was the mainstream masses begging for it to be turned into a pure TPS, my bad
Halo... Sorta, as others said it's not as bad as CoD
World of Warcraft (Just watch Trade Chat in a city for 20-30 minutes someday, trust me)
Pokemon (EV/Tourney trainers, MY GOD)
Super Smash Brothers
For that matter, ANY FIGHTING GAME EVAR
Metroid Other M (BAWWWWWW, NO DADDY ISSUES IN MY SCI-FI, BAWWWWWW)

And that's about all I can think off of the top of my head.

Most Source mods for me, I haven't encountered such an infuriating group of morons in my life, you know the sort, they play the Same. Fucking. Nerdy. Catchphrase down their mics, to the applaud of their moronic lackeys. Muting these is only temporary, as some [if not most] servers have stupid sounds that appear when you type a certain word, 9000 for example. Type that in chat and you hear a playback of Vegeta saying it, not only is it not funny at all, it's also held to be divine comedy by these buffoons who will repeat it over and over again.

And don't get me started on all that disturbing furry art they spray everywhere.

DotA. Oh god DotA. Half the games don't make it past five minutes because someone dies once and ragequits, and three quarters of the players have no idea what they're doing. Still, one eighth of the games are fantastic, so I grudgingly continue to slog through the crap in search of those few shining diamonds in the rough.
If you're willing to play, I'm willing to learn. o.o I currently play LoL only, since it's a bit easier to grasp, but, I can always pick Juggernaut back up.

With that said, OT: I missed DotA on my list.

Red Dead Redemption in Public Roam, especially when you're trying to do a challenge that requires you to not die. It's frustrating to clear a hideout perfectly and then getting shot by a random stranger who has no business whatsoever with you.

Minecraft is begining to get like this, because there are two kinds of servers.
1. A nice server with a decent OP, but is ran from a laptop for two hours a day
2. An insanely powerful dedicated server with a player base of 200, but harsh, sometimes even abusive OP control freaks, a so called "Economy" that consists entirely of fixed prices, and a community that just turns the game into "Like single player, but other massive structures pop up randomly"

I am thinking of starting a server for just me and my RL friends, which would end up falling into the first category, but with 8GB RAM and Quad Core instead of a barely functional laptop.
The server i play on isnt like either of those, its a dedicated creative server with excellent moderation, non intrusive gameplay mods and a maximum of i believe 20 players at a time, although we rarely have that, maybe on saturday nights. its currently in a state of survival due to the recent update, waiting for the mods to update as well. if you want to try it out go to twentymine.com although i would wait for survival to finish.

on topic though, i would say morrowind elitists in the elder scrolls community and battlefield 2 elitists in the battlefield community who disregard bad company because it was different. ive played morrowind, and every battlefield game, but even i cant believe how eliteist these guys are

For fucks sake people. Stop fucking camping when you're the attacking team!
Me and my friends have a good technique for campers (especially snipers) when we are attacking and they wont move up. Smoke grenades. And plenty of them. And covering them in tracer darts works well too.

The Alliance, WoW. Seriously Yahtzee said it best, why play Alliance? They're just annoying, unimaginative and have no interesting plot lines. The Horde has betrayals within it's walls and leaders fighting leaders, none of this "LET'S GO BLAME THE ORCS AGAIN!" like the humans keep trying to brush past us. Also Goblins>Gnomes tenfold. All the annoying 10 yr olds go alliance so whenever I think "I'll play a dwarf, dwarves look cool" an elf comes up to me screaming "I WANT GOLD, WANNA CYBER!?!" ALWAYS ruins the game for me even when I expect it...

Red Dead Redemption matchmaking. I got on, "oh this is kinda cool i might get some friends on wit-" *bang* Dead.
Then the same guy followed me to each spawn and continued to kill me again and again for no reason. Logged out and in, same guy, same situation. Tried again, different guy, same situation. Tried AGAIN, yup, killed by a different random on entering the game.

I have heard of multiplayer matches, co-op matches and free-roam fun from reviews. But the community ignores that for cheaps kills on newbies.

A million times this. The amount of times I have joined a rush game only to find all 12 attacking players sniping is insane.

This too. At least they added that friendly one, but even on there you get people who shoot your horse and crap.
