There's no room for ethics in a free-market.
I'm not completely sure how it works in the US, but anyone in Australia living with the misconception that we have a free market is either functionally retarded or willfully ignorant.

That said, protecting small business, to me, makes economic sense. I do not believe ethics to be the reasoning behind protective economic legislation.
Please show me exactly where I said Australia has a free-market.
I'm merely pointing out that not all MEDCs fit into the demograph of free markets most claim to but for many it is illusory in nature, and while the majority of this site's traffic is US in origin (Probably), your statement left a closed door on other countries for whom this thread is relevant.

(Yes, I know SC2 and WoW are technically not Activision's products, but given ActiBlizzard, Kotick has definitely had his hand in SOME decisions)
Yes they are. They're the same company. It's their products. Kotick still gets your money.

Okay... why? I can understand Blizard, but Bioware? Really?

I couldn't care less about Wal-Mart.

I do care about people complaining about big business.
I don't complain about big business in general. I'd be a hypocrite if I did. However, Wal-Mart takes it to the next level in a way that is screwed up. They're just a terrible company, not just because they're big business, but for several reasons.

Hell, in that same post I supported GameStop. I like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. (For the most part.)

Trust me, "big business" isn't going to give two corn-speckled lumps about you standing up for them. That's why they have lawyers.

Capitalism is a lot like Communism - good in theory. Unfortunately, Stalin has proven that Communism will never work because people are corrupt. The Goldman Sachs, the Enrons, the Wal-Marts, the big businesses that have more or less ensured that this recession of ours is going to continue on for a long time to come have more than proven that Capitalism is a failure of a system as well.

We only cling to it because the only answer to "well, what will we replace Capitalism with?" is "...ya know, I really don't know." We shouldn't be focusing on "making them hurt" so much as finding something to replace them with so we don't end up back in the late 1800s/early 1900s under the Rule of the Wealthy.

Ya know, because I'm a silly, silly optimist. >.>

Ubisoft - until they get rid of their stupid DRM they brought in with AC II)

Not very happy with Activision, but I like Blizzard games too much to boycott them for now.

As for non-gaming ones.

I'd like to boycott British Telecom, but as they have a virtual monopoly on phone and internet in most of this country I can't. Basically, there's no Cable in my street, and the only phone wire coming into my building belongs to BT. I can go elsewhere for phone and ADSL, but they'd only be re-selling BT's services...

Companies I'm boycotting,and the reasons why -

Capcom - This is after they made Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5, both of which were terrible sequels that people still praised.

Square Enix - After seeing that they were involved in some of the development of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it also stems from my time playing Final Fantasy XIII.

Ubisoft - Splinter Cell: Conviction and Kane and Lynch 2. Two sequels that shot the original ideas in the feet. At least some folks, thank you Yahtzee and Angry Joe, saw that the latter was complete garbage and said so.

Couldn't care less that they don't care.

I don't do things for praise.
Then what do you do them for?

Activision is getting close to being there...
Hardees I won't eat at because their commercials disgust me. I did try they new chicken strips, and they weren't even that great.
Alienware. Fuck that.
World of Warcraft... err... Blizzard in general actually.
Norton AntiVirus.

Not really boycotting, but I don't buy stuff made by Bungie or BioWare anymore.

Companies I have boycotted are:
-McDonalds.
-KFC.
-Starbucks.
-Subway (with the exception of cookies).
-Hungry Jacks/Burger King (never actually been there so I'm just not going to start).

I've also boycotted the self-service registers at supermarkets and the like, because I would prefer someone was actually employed rather than these businesses trying to cut costs.

Electronic Arts. It's not just the labor problems I've read about in the past, but the fact that I've almost never been not-disappointed by their games. They always look so good and they never are. And Gamestop. Cannot stand the whole "box opening thing." There are never any deals worth taking advantage of.

my top 3 evil consumer corporations:

1. wal-mart
2. comcast
3. mcdonalds

i go out of my way to not use their products. and i say "consumer corporations" because i harbor a deep ill will for many multi-national conglomerates who will do absolutely anything to increase their bottom line.

I'm only boycotting Activision and I have done for around 3 years. I do honestly see it ending soon though because CoD:Black Ops looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. I want to buy it just to support Treyarch... but it's still Activision ;_;

I doubt I'm gonna get lucky enough that my uncle buys black ops, doesn't like it and gives it to me like he did with Modern Warfare 2. He's gonna avoid CoD now of course.

I agree with Corpse XxX, I'm not boycotting Apple but I know I will NEVER own one of their stupidly expensive and easy to break products.
Actually, I've dropped my iPod (second and third gen) on concrete multiple times and it's just fine.

I don't buy from Gamestop at all, right next to their store is a nice little used games shop that I frequent instead. I got Crackdown for seven bucks.

All their retarded quotes aimed at Japanese RPGs amongst other.
So...

You don't buy their products because they have said bad things about JRPGs?

*Chuckle* Sorry, that just seems a little petty.

Isn't pettiness what runs the world, though?
Or at the very least, France?
