OT: lawyers

Between the vulture like attitude towards even the most minor of mishaps, the general disregard for what I consider their primary job, ensuring that the judicial system acts to aid the public, and the incredibly inflated hourly wages (even when compared to professions with similarly high training requirements), there is no other group that I feel has in general earned more in the way of scorn. There are indeed good people in that profession, but they are quite rare.
If you swap "judicial system" with the appropriate word, this applies to pretty much any profession: doctors, nurses, teachers, public servants...
Not really no, at least in the sense that I mean. I'm not talking about personal investment.

A doctor that doesn't give a damn about the health of others, but does the job for other reasons, is still doing a great deal of good for society. Not as much as they might be if fully invested, but still. A lawyer on the other hand is in a position where if they don't care, can do far more harm than good overall. In fact, doing harm is usually the more profitable option. As a result, we have entire teams of lawyers choosing to take action that is against the good of society. The equivalent behavior with a doctor might be a surgeon leaving a poor man on the table to bleed to death and heading off to work on the nose job of a rich client, and yet the lawyers aren't in danger of prosecution by pulling such crap, funny how that works.
MRSA says hi.

OT: Not sure exactly what profession this is, but those who have power in the pharmaceutical industry are among the worst. They are deliberately keeping effective treatment options from hitting the market because they can't make as much profit from it. Giving extremely high dosages that cause side effects then selling us things to treat these side effects. Horrible industry.

Civil Engineers in the US, specifically regarding bicycle lanes. I've been a lot of places in the world, and I can say with certainty that splitting the edge of the street is a terrible idea, while splitting the sidewalk is a good one. We seriously need to become willing to learn from countries that did it better than us... with a lot of things, really.
Kinda reminds me of an ole engineer joke.

If God was an engineer, what kind would he be? A Civil Engineer, because only a Civil Engineer would put a toxic waste line through a recreational area.

As a fairly grumpy IT guy, can I just throw out there 'Anyone who makes me leave my nice comfortable office'? Mostly that would be the staff running tills and slamming their kit about.

Professional SAT multiple choice questions... mainly the reading analysis multiple choice questions pertaining to a particular reading section... It's like those questions support only conformant ideas on interpreting the given text... There's more than one way in interpreting text, you know? Or are you trying to say that both interpreting and analyzing are the same exact thing... because I kinda don't think so...

OT: Professional Writers... Most of them are only professionals in other fields that are usually not even related to literature in general... Plus, it's not a real professional title, no matter how you feel it is... It's misleading, at best... And I'm not even throwing the "cheap shot" of those people that really take this title to heart most likely don't even write their own published books...

With that said, I want to become a professional writer... who's actually a professional novalist... (Such confusing titles, I tell ya... I mean, which one actually proves you write professionally, anyway?)

Seriously! Shit I hated those classes. They make you read the most inane, asinine things that made me want to huff glue until I forgot I had done so (It works!). Then they give you a stellar "C" because you don't think the way they do, and I didn't have time for that shit because my focus was on science.

Buuuuut, it didn't stop there. I had a physics professor would go off on political rants. I didn't care, nobody in the class did because it absolutely nothing to do with FUCKING THERMODYNAMICS! We need roboprofessors. Like Robocop, but they teach instead, properly programmed with clear instructional directives. Yeah, I should look into that.

As an IT-Guy, pretty much any office worker with some stuck-up-his-own-ass title that walks around being "SO IMPORTANT", and then sits down at his desk to watch porn all day. Yeah, im sure yoou deserve every zero on that 6-digit paycheck mate.

Pretty much every arrogant athlete, player whatsoever. I can respect investing your time and blood into something and rising to the top. But at the end of the day, you are kicking a piece of cow-leather down a grassy field. My respect for this "Achievement" is limited.

Most fashion-designers. Your stuff looks like sh*t. And you hide behind the fact that appearantly this is "art". A woman wearing half a cow and then walking down a stage isnt art. Its a woman wearing HALF A GODDAMN COW. STAHP.

I don't think many of them are even consciously aware that they're doing it. It's like they're conditioned to think "Oh, someone touched me in a hostile manner... AAAAARRRGH, THE PAIN!!!"

This. I'm mildly interested in watching football but this just kills it for me. It's basically cheating that for some reason is allowed to just happen.

General Practitioners.

The amount of money that they charge for a consultation only to say, "If you're still feeling ill come back so I can put more of your hard earned money into a trust fund for my kids" should be criminal. I actively avoid going to the doctor's unless I feel real shit, not so much to get checked up on, but to get the medical certificate.

I get how important their profession is to society, but telling someone to turn their head and cough while pocketing the contents of their wallet really pisses me off.

My Ancient History teacher. Wouldn't teach us about Alexander The Great because of her Catholic views and he had a tendency to shag some guys. This pissed me off a fair bit.
I do hope there is a meaning of "shag" I am simply not aware of...

OT: I too will go with GPs, but not for their prices like implied above but for the reason that with a lot of them there seems to be quite a disparity between their perceived professionality in the general public and their actual competence.
Which is alright if they just do flu shots and a blood pressure sometimes, but if they actually try to get into the matter and do acute house call service or even become rural first responders I find a lot of those turn out to be grossly incompetent to the point of dangerous. This is going from calling an ambulance with a stroke diagnosis for an obviously hypoglycaemic diabetic and disappearing before they arrive without having so much as done any vitals to not having a clue about ALS procedure, medication or intubation if you yourself volunteered to be a responder for emergency situations like that.

This claim needs some evidence to back it up. If a company has spent research budget developing a treatment, they will want to sell it to recoup their expenditure. It makes no sense for them to sit on it and make no money becuase they wish they could make even more.

On the other hand they are reluctant to research certain areas, but that's normally due to difficulties and failures in R&D. Given how expensive drug development is, one or two unsuccessful research attempts can destroy companies.

Giving extremely high dosages that cause side effects then selling us things to treat these side effects.
Again, this assertion needs backing up, as pharmaceutical companies do not dictate dosage size, that is determined by doctors following guidelines they recieve from appropraite organisations (eg the British Pharmacological Society). High drug doses are used when lower doses aren't effective, not to generate side effects.

Horrible industry.
Really they're no worse than any other industry. They don't really care about people, but they don't get off thier suffering either. It's an industry much like any other.

For my region, it's the IT and programming employers here that frustrate me. It's been six months since I've graduated, and for the life of me it seems that the only way you'd get hired around here is if you're the Jesus of IT and/or programming. Seriously, just hire a bunch of college graduates and train them - The IT sector really needs to be bolstered in this location, and if they keep hiring on people who's already got a lot of experience, once these people retire for good there's going to be a difficult transition to make because since they didn't want to hire anybody new to the career, they either have to hire on fresh college students or people with rusty skills, thus taking a nosedive in performance.

Meanwhile, nepotism is alive and well in the insurance industry - They see my name, then they look me up and find my mother's name, who used to be an insurance agent. Guess who's more interested in me right now?

Unfortunately, the best way to get into deving, is to have a decent portfolio. Start writing apps, or building websites for your mates, or try to get some practical examples of your work together so that you can show those nasty old goats what the new school is capable of and sell yourself to them! (PS. I feel your pain- it took me 10 months to get into an IT job after graduating.)

Not technically a profession but I feel it needs to be said. Negligent parents.

Now when I say negligent parents, I don't just mean parents that abuse or starve their kids (although those are obviously terrible). I'm talking about parents who mollycoddle the absolute shit out of their children.

They wrap their precious little bundles of joy in so much cotton wool that they are totally unprepared for the real world (i.e. school). I have heard many stories from my mother (a primary school teacher) who has to deal with parents complaining to the principal about her, because she had the audacity to make their child sit a spelling test.

These children are often woefully under-educated. Many can barely read or do basic math. The parents are too busy trying to make their kids are happy that they won't force them to learn anything. I'm sorry but if your child cannot write his name by the time he is in grade 4, you are failing as a parent.

The worst thing is these kids are often the little shits that plague our schools. They're so used to getting whatever they want that when they don't, they throw a massive tantrum and cause all manner of problems.

Basically complain about any professional's work, e.g. doctors, engineers, teachers etc...

I hate how architects design floor plans. The rooms are so disproportionate from each other. Its obvious that you want a bigger master bedroom, but why do you intentionally make one kids room much nicer than another? Not just a little bigger closet or an extra sq. ft or two, but multiple closets, a better view and bigger in general. Have they never had siblings? Don't they think one kid is going feel awfully shitty when his older brother or sister has an intentionally better room than them?.Also, I hate floor plans that have laundry rooms in bathrooms, thats just nasty. Not to mention these homes that have over two hundred thousand dollar cost to build estimates, but don't even have a private master bath. Is it that foreign of an idea to let the person who just paid for this beast not have to share with the whole family?

Anyway I'm done bitchin' now it's your turn!
I remember in the first house we were in when I was a kid (before my parents moved down the street into my late great grandfather's house where I would spend the overwhelming majority of my childhood) the room I had was pretty much a walk in cupboard. The length of the bed went almost wall to wall, and when my grandfather gave me a small toy trains table, with that addition, the only space left was about a pace wide by the door.

It did have a bitchin' dimmer switch for the light, though. We need more dimmer switches in the world.

OT: Business people in general that clearly don't know a fucking thing about business. For example, the National Heritage committee that, while it doesn't own the pub at which I work, for some reason is judge, jury and executioner for vital decisions. Not really sure how that works. But my grievance with them is that they're quite clearly idiots.

The pub, like many English pubs, follows an old fashioned Victorianish aesthetic. To improve loyalty to this aesthetic, they recently made it mandatory for the owner to have single glazed windows put in to replace the current double glazing. This disregards the fact we already had the double glazed windows set into old fashioned frames. They're oblivious to the fact that assuming we want to keep a comfortable level of heating in the place for customers (not to mention the owners who live above the pub) with single glazed windows, we're looking at potentially as much as a 45% increase on our heating bill. In this fucking economy.

Ya I have to agree with Heritage foundations. They exist to make everyone else's lives more problematic

Professional Athletes (American ones anyway) can all go and die in a fire. "Look at me! I can throw/catch a ball particularly well! Thank you for the extremely large paychecks! Woops, I sprained my ankle and won't be playing anymore this season...Thank you for letting me keep my money!" Scum of the fucking earth, professional athletes.
This. Just this.

So you can play some silly game extremely well. Good for you, but what about your profession justifies your paycheck when you honestly don't contribute very much to society at all? And why is it you get paid millions and millions of dollars when the kinds of folks who actually are worth that kind of cash barely can say they get a fraction of that much in their own paychecks?

Maybe I'm just biased since I don't like sports at all to begin with, but yeah. Professional Athletes don't deserve to make shittons of money like they currently do...

Teachers teaching their native languages (for me Dutch). I mean, nobody likes their subject, and the parts that are interesting are actually history. Other than that, I get that it's for a good cause and all that, but still...

Also for keeping the horrible Dutch language alive.

Footballers. Here in Scotland, being bad at football is a state worse than poverty.

So, a professional footballer gets about twice the yearly salary of an average doctor.

You kick a ball around.

They saves lives.

Go fuck yourself.
