That's an over simplification though. The people whining about this being immature and a gimmick aren't the same people wanting representation and vise versa.

Well yes, but simplification is often the best way to go about things. But you're right. The problem is there are multiple groups who want things that conflict with each other. So developers are put in a rough spot into who they satisfy the most. If you look at averages, I am willing to bet that a game typically only fully satisfies about 20-30% of the people who play it. This lack of complete satisfaction can be for any number of reasons, but you see it with just about every game that is discussed in these very forums.

Because everyone has different tastes, and tolerances, who do you try and appeal to?

I think the biggest riff comes when sexual content becomes involved. There is never a heated debate over a game's genre, if you don't like rpg's then you probably aren't going to be interested in a Final Fantasy game no matter how good RPG fans say it is. However when sex or nudity is involved suddenly everyone cares, whether it be swinging dicks in Conan, or who Commander Shepard can diddle, everyone comes out an has a voice. It's this army of voices that just becomes an unreasonable mess.

Complaining that Geralt just bangs everything with a hole between their legs is fine. But doesn't that just mean the game isn't for you. What's wrong with it appealing to somebody else?

We tend to fall into a slippery slope of topic when this type of thing comes up.

So staying with the game in question here. If this is immature and gimmicky, fine, what's wrong with it being that way though? If that's what the developers want for their game, and it gets people paying attention to it, then what's the harm? Isn't insulting someone who likes that kind of dorky nudity akin to insulting an adult for liking anime or ponies?

I get that people want more diversity and representation. But when a game doesn't come out that caters to said representation, that doesn't negate the game's right to be unrepresentative. right?

I don't find it to be about any of these above mentioned things.
To me, it's about equality (nude women with bouncy boobs, nude men with swinging penises) and about depicting the human body as something natural.

What we get in videogames, instead, is bouncing boobs and close-up of ladybutts.

We get the first videogame with a bouncing penis out of 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 videogames with bouncing boobs, and people already complain.
Imagine what women have to put up with, if ONE occasion in which the opposite ahappens is enough to annoy certain people.

Also, this game features nude vaginas just as it features nude penis. So I don't see the problem.

GTA: Lost and Damned and Outlast come to mind. Then there's also Mount Your Friends(although, dicks there are tightly packaged) and of course Genital Jousting.

There is also Dante's Inferno where you get to see Satan's enormous dick in the last fight. There is Genital Jousting where you literally play penises. Those games don't receive that much publicity because of this acceptance of male genitalia.

The interesting part about that in Watch Dogs 2 is that they did also have modelled peni. That was what made the whole Ubi removing the snuck in vag and apologising, a bit more of a complex issue.

I would not call it "acceptance of male genitalia". It's more like, "the general view is that videogames are for Straight Males, so dicks are not sexy for them, so they are not pervert and sexy".

Which has the advantage that when you put a random dick in a videogame it's theorically no big deal.
But has the disadvantage that while nobody cares if a videogame is full of bouncing boobs, everyone makes a big deal of a videogame full of swinging penises.

I don't know if I've made my point clear.

All in all, I welcome the notion that nudity in videogame may finally become more acceptable and common. First of all, Western culture needs to get out of their head the wrong notion that nudity = sex (and sex = nudity).
