Ahh, concerts. Your favorite band up on stage making beautiful music as the crowd hoots and hollers like a bunch of mad men. And, of course, the air stinks of blood, sweat, and overly priced merchandise.

In case you can't tell, I've never been to a concert, but my first is a Tool concert in Georgia coming up on the twenty-seventh.

So I'm curious, who and where was your first concert? How did it go?

Dropkick Murphys at First Avenue in St. Paul. Walked out with only a gash on the side of my head.

My first real concert not just some local thing, was Haste the Day, As I Lay Dying, and All That Remains in a club in Atlanta. It was awesome Haste the Day blew away all my expectations and the others were great too. I had a black eye coming out from the pits and could not hear out of my left ear for 3 days.

Ozzfest... '07 I think it was. Best night of my life. Be prepared to mosh, btw. And crowd surf. you have to. just tap someone on the shoulder and point up. Oh, and make sure the crowd is fairly dense.

First big concert I saw was Joe Satriani in 1988. It wasn't bad, but damn those high notes were loud, I was deaf for ages. (Thankfully due to advances in audio reproduction technology, volume at live gigs these days isn't as loud as it used to be.) Wasn't exactly the greatest gig ever but it was pretty good for what it was, I guess. Having some guy passing out and falling right on top of me before the show even started was probably the most memorable moment.

The first concert I've been to was a Gigantour.

The opening bands were Job For A Cowboy, Children Of Bodom, and In Flames. I don't usually like those bands, but the music was acceptable in these circumstances. Their presentations were superb, too.
The main band of the tour was Megadeth. They were the main reason my dad and I went. Excellent presentation, and the music was great.

I also got an ass-kicking shirt for $10; it looks awesome and it's the most comfortable shirt I own.

Woodstock 99, i was 15. How did it go? lol, did you read the news?

Actually i wasnt there for the eventful 3rd day, mostly cos i had forgotten that RHCP was playing that day.
Haha, I couldn't have read the news as I would only be five at the time, but yes, I do know how it went.

Wikipedia is to thank for that.

Awesome, concerts are wicked fun. Tool is a good choice, good ambient sound, nothing too crazy pit wise. The first show I ever went to was a weird choice, was Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie. Fantastic show. Since then I've thrown away alot of money having the time of my life at those shows.

Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie. An interesting match up, but both good bands nonetheless. When was this?

Megadeath, Last Summer, Vancouver.
Crowd: FUCK YEAHHHHHHH!
Me: Go Band?

I don't get the whole concert thing.

The fact that they where preceded by a bunch of screamo dumbasses probably didn't help.

Tool put on a really good show, you're gonna enjoy it.

My first concert was something lame that I was too young to realize was lame, like The Wallflowers or something, I think.

I've been to some good shows since then - Rob Zombie, Tool, Gwar. The best shows I've seen are the two from Clutch - nice small venues, great songs and performances. I'll definitely try to catch them next time they come to Maine.

On the 24th I'm going to see the Pedal to the Metal Tour - Mudvayne, Black Label Society, and Static X! Should be a good one \m/-_-\m/

My guitar instructor is like seventy years old now and still holds concerts. The man rocks so fucking hard.

My first "concert" was going to his benefit show raising money for the Harley Davidson biker's club chapter of my town. Since he and I are friends, I got in for free, got free beer (all I could drink!) and got to basically do whatever the fuck I wanted. He played a few kickass old songs (a few that he wrote, which are all catchy blues songs, and some covers) and then decided to go all the way to white-trash town and played Freebird.

Halfway through the solo, his (also incredibly old) keyboardist started yelling profanities - apparently caught up in the huge keyboard solo - and my instructor accidentally knocked over an amp. Seeing a seventy-ish year old Vietnam vet rocking the fucking house, kicking amps and yelling "YEAH! YEAH! GO BERNIE GO!" is possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen.

So my first concert wasn't exactly a concert, but it still kicked more ass than anything else I've ever gone to see live. Even CKY.

They fucking sucked.

EDIT: Hail the Villain opened for CKY, however, and they were absolutely awesome. The lead singer was so energetic it was impossible not to enjoy yourself (he was pelvic-thrusting at the bassist's face in time with the crash cymbals).

The first proper concert I went to (not counting Vancouver Symphony Orchestra gigs my parents brought me to when I was a tween or Raffi and Fred Penner shows they brought me to when I was a kid) was Damien Rice. It was a pretty decent show, even though I don't really listen to Rice anymore. The best show I've ever been to was put on by Explosions in the Sky about a year later; it was their first visit to Vancouver, and so far the haven't returned.

My first ever concert was nine inch nails in dallas on the downward spiral tour...1993 I think. Best concert I ever went to was Volunteers for America in october 2001. Journey, Kansas, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Survivor, Bad Company, and it was hosted by Drew Carey who was funny as hell.

I have no shame admitting that I would have killed a man to get to see Raffi or Fred Penner live when I was a kid. Hell, I still would.
