So i'm considering buying Aion as i'm a huge fan of MMORPGs and it seems pretty darn awesome!

But i'd like some feedback from you guys that are playing it or have played it.
So what do you think?

Oh, and what is the monthly fee? (I'm from Denmark, Europe)

Its made by the same people who made City of Heroes and City of Villains... and who are in the process of making a rather spectacular expansion, Going Rouge and I-19: Incarnates. (Just announces some tidbits of I-19 at PAX)

I'd suggest you explore the Aion website and forums and have a look-see. If City of... hadn't claimed my soul I'd be playing Aion. The 3rd dimension apparently is rather niffy.

They were also the geniuses behind Guild Wars

Cryptic made City of heroes and Arenanet made Guild wars. They were all published by NCsoft though who also made Aion.

No, they weren't. ArenaNet are the people who designed Guild Wars. NcSoft just owns ArenaNet.

Anyhow, two big things to consider in Aion, 1. it is hugely, hugely, team based, the second you enter the level 20+ zones, you are going to be killed nonstop be members of the opposing faction unless you're in a group [even when you're in a group sometimes... the max levels have some weird lowbie killing fetish].

And 2. It is grindy as hell, the first bits of the game are ok, but after lv25 or so, you'll be finding that even completing every quest avail. to you, you're still going be left with several million [this can be tens of millions post-40] exp to grind out, which is very annoying, because monsters do not give much exp in relation to the amount you need.

Essentially, your typical Korean MMO, grind until your fingers fall off, then grind some more.

It's a good game but it's nothing special, I played for a couple of months and then stopped. The main story quests were cool but took a while to get to. There were complaints from high level players about the lack of content towards and at the end of the game but I never got there, just stuff i saw in the chat box.

The fee is what you'd normally pay for an MMO it was £9 a month. What's good is that you can make one off payments instead of rolling debits but you can have that too.

You should get a 48 hour trial if you can, you need someone who is playing to send you one. That's what I did, and then I bought a month.

As for gameplay, it's a grindfest. I liked the combat, and the Abyss area was cool, but there's little PvE content and no real indication of where to level beyond 25/30. I resorted to picking a spot with no one around, and killing mobs endlessly because I had no fucking idea of where to quest, and the only instance I could run at that level was shit for exp. There are aspects of it I like, though I can't imagine myself ever getting to lv. 50 on it unless they update the PvE side of things. I remember some of my guild mates complaining about how difficult it was to level from 40 to 41, and then 41 to 42 because they required ridiculously large amounts of exp, and this one lv. 50 who only came on to speak to people, because there was nothing else to do.

Try and get a 48 hour trial from the forums, and then buy it if you like it. I still enjoyed the month I paid for, it was only in the last week or so I hardly played because there was nothing else to do other than grind.

Hey you should,I dunno. It's a more economic alternative (because you only have to pay for the game and for a re-look or new name, no epic pay armor) and you also can make quite a lot of friends or meet any far away friends, (well just like any other game). Mostly it looks pretty and you get to stab stuff. Doesn't that want to make everyone here play?

Aion is very pretty. It's also a ton of fun to sneak into enemy PvE zones and start causing havoc, or seek out enemies in your PvE zones who are trying to cause havoc. Everything else about the game sucks. Combat is "same 'ol, same 'ol", quests are horrible (You're an angel, a chosen one and all you do is deliver things and cull animal populations) and the grind is mindnumbing. Seriously, once you hit level 26, 27 something there's nothing else to do than do the same shit over and over and over and over.

Can't you tell the admins about that and get everything restored?

Yeah i heard about that (the grinding thing), but there is an easy way to fix that, and i heard that they are already fixing some of it in the new patch 1.9.

That's a bit above normal fee, even Champions Online has a smaller fee and they got events and stuff.

EDIT: Wait, is it 9 GBP or is it 13 Euro, cuz it isn't the same.

I played it up until level 25. I love doing PVP (I did PVP in WoW and WAR, too)

I would love to tell you what the PVP is like, but there's quests you need to do to get into the "battlegrounds" and they're so lengthy that I got bored and quit.

It's very much a grind-fest and if you roll a gladiator then don't expect to be good in PVP (because Gladiators are the only class that rely on animations to be complete, and some are long animations, so people can just take a few steps back and you'll miss)

On the whole, though, if you're looking for something to tide you over until you find a better MMO, it's good enough.

It's very pretty, too.

Personally I'd recommend waiting for Star Wars: The Old Republic, but I realize not everyone is willing to wait until April 2011.
