No, they weren't. ArenaNet are the people who designed Guild Wars. NcSoft just owns ArenaNet.
Anyhow, two big things to consider in Aion, 1. it is hugely, hugely, team based, the second you enter the level 20+ zones, you are going to be killed nonstop be members of the opposing faction unless you're in a group [even when you're in a group sometimes... the max levels have some weird lowbie killing fetish].
And 2. It is grindy as hell, the first bits of the game are ok, but after lv25 or so, you'll be finding that even completing every quest avail. to you, you're still going be left with several million [this can be tens of millions post-40] exp to grind out, which is very annoying, because monsters do not give much exp in relation to the amount you need.
Essentially, your typical Korean MMO, grind until your fingers fall off, then grind some more.
