"Console gaming is better because it just works"... still a valid argument?

That's quite true. Also, generally, consoles are more powerful systems, but there are gaming PCs that have download times of mere seconds. (usually custom made)
You need to explain this whole statement because it is patently untrue. A cheap graphics card will have more processing power and ram than any of the current gen consoles and downloads are entirely dependent on your internet connection, not the hardware.
I'm afraid that I didn't write that original statement at all, so I'm not sure where you got that from...

I think the most valid argument is "I like console gaming because, in my oppinion, it's more fun and less hassle for me." Same argument works if you switch console with pc in the same sentence.

I've never been able to get into PC games, the lack of a control stick bugs me too much.

Well for most of my life I've had really slow and crappy computers so I've never been able to play PC games without it being really slow and glitchy. But on the other hand I've never got a virus from them. I'd have to say it depends on what quality of computer you're willing to buy.

To be honest I have never heard anyone call console gaming better, so where exactly did you get that argument? And why are you questioning it?

Can anyone tell me a single positive thing that can result from this discussion? Even one? I very honestly can't think of anything.

There is no objective best. Get what you like and stick with it.
This!

Whoever next posts in this thread obviously feels that all previous discussion is completely incorrect.

No, it's not a valid argument. But neither is the "Console gamers are too simple to use the keyboard/mouse controls."

Both sides have elitists, when there's really no point to be elitist about either of the gaming platforms. Some games work better on consoles, some work better on a PC, that's all there is to it.

Both have their flaws and perks, but neither are the wondrous gaming platform that some make them out to be.

The three consoles are completely inferior in hardware to PC's built within the last two years.
Isn't that a bit unfair on the consoles because they were all released several years ago so obviously they're going to be inferior to the current hardware built for PCs today, yet they can still play games being developed today at fairly equal standards to PC games graphically and gameplay-wise as I haven't heard of any parts of a game cut from a console version of it simply because it was on a console and not a pc.
My last PC (built in 2004) had better hardware in it than the current generation of consoles, and just as a comparison for graphics, I ran Bioshock on my PC (in 1920x1080 with direct x 10) and on my PS3 (on an hdtv through hdmi cables) and not only did the pc look better, it ran smoother.
But how much was your PC? There were some PCs with very good hardware but were very expensive and so wasn't suitable for use in a console because it would have been too expensive to produce and would have resulted in a higher price for the console, limiting their market.

Also the graphic improvement on the PC compared to the PS3 may have been laziness on the developer's part in not making the graphics the same quality, or it may have just been your TV as you do get different HD settings.
Current PC was 1500, including the monitor. If I lumped the cost of my TV in with the PS3, it would have run me about the same, with the TV costing a larger portion.

My last PC cost 600 and was better hardware than the current gen consoles back in 2004. But somehow the console makers are still losing money on the consoles at 300 when I could go back and rebuild that PC for 250.

Honestly, I don't know how it showed you as the originator the first time, but this person needs to explain their statement.

It never actually has been a valid argument in the first place.

PC gaming works grand, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it. A bit more effort sure, but the payoff is usually better.

Play Bayonetta on PS3 and you'll find that argument is invalid. It still comes down to developer competence on their chosen platform. With PC, it takes user competence to not complete screw their machine over and then expect it to run. A good PC developer knows how to troubleshoot issues on the PC, it's part of the territory. How much PS3 or Xbox troubleshooting do you normally have to do with a game? Not a whole lot, but the games are still bug filled, can crash, and can have performance hits. My friend's 360 crashes more than my Windows 7 computer ever has.

It's called freedom. Which has responsibility (See, Risk Management). Such as consumer responsibility to understand if it'll work on their chosen hardware/software combination or not. With standards comes rigidity, and eventually comes a monopoly. Ain't it a *****.
One could also argue that with a PC, you require both developer AND user competence, whereas consoles generally require only the developer to make their products accessible and bug-free, barring extenuating circumstances such as a dodgy router that won't work with a certain system.

It's still a valid argument. I was an avid PC gamer up until the 360 and work begin sapping my free time like something that saps free time in large quantities. While I was awfully fond of mods, all the hosting issues, compatibility problems, and other problems that console gamers often lambaste PC fanboys for overlooking did, in fact, eventually turn me away from my PC. Basically, if the PC can claim to have modding communities over console gamers, one also needs to evaluate just how much quality content this really adds to the game, and how many more problems adding mods to your games can cause if something goes wrong.

I like both but I'd have to say I prefer the Console for FPS and some other games (RPG's) (20 inch monitor or 50/60 inch TV, TV PLEASE) while I prefer RTS, RPG,and some games in the R&C series. Both have pro's and con's but I love 'em both :D!

I think this argument if a wast off time since in the end is all in personal preference and what your use to. Me who leaned to play FPS on console had a rough and tumble time on PC when it came to aiming(was too sensitive) and driving vehicles.
