Could Mass Effect Be Heading To the PS3?

Again, I told people this will happen. 360 fanboys can deny it all they want, but EA owns Mass Effect, not Microsoft. So here it is AGAIN. You can bet all you want, but by the end of 2010 Mass Effect WILL be on the PS3.

Speaking at a gaming event in Poland this week, Bioware's Jay Watamaniuk mentioned the Playstation 3 as a probable target audience for Mass Effect 2, Polygamia reports.

During the presentation, Watamaniuk mentioned three platforms that Mass Effect 2 is targeted at. They were Xbox 360, PC and "probably PS3".

Polygamia reports that Watamaniuk later seemed to be backing away from the statement.

The original Mass Effect was developed by Bioware and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the PC and Xbox 360. But in late 2007, Electronic Arts purchased Bioware.

Mass Effect 2 is currently listed as a PC and Xbox 360 only game. Earlier this week the game popped up on several sites for the PS3, but EA said it was a mistake.

Did Watamaniuk misspeak, or should Playstation 3 owners start boning up on their Mass Effect lore? We've contacted Bioware to try and find out.

Why? Ea has been nothing but good to Bioware. They are funding them like Bioware never was before. Now Bioware has cash to make all the awesome games they ever wanted.

well, atleast the pstripple's wont be able to have pre-made characters in Mass Effect 2, just goes to show that 360 players will be better.

Who wants to bet some cash money that Mass Effect 1 does not get ported to PS3 too? EA has the money and they just know that they would make bucket loads of cash off of both games from PS3 owners who love RPG's.

Eh, was bound to happen. Besides, 360 got Final Fantasy XIII AND MGS franchise... surely us PS3 ownders deserve something in return? We got Bioshock yes, but... thats one franchise, against 2. want more! MOAR!

Well, it certainly seems possible. Dragon Age is coming to the PS3 from the same company, and they can enter a marketplace with install base of 20+ million with small amount of work. Not a whole lot of reasons why they shouldn't give it a shot, unless EA has some deals with MS that would be affected by this kind of move.

Like I said before I am willing to bet cash money that Mass Effect 1 comes to the PS3 at the same time as Mass Effect 2. I am predicting a PS3 Mass Effect double pack ported by another studio other than Bioware. EA has the cash to do this and they know that they would get a great return on their investment.

It's not exactly an easy port to do, and it depends on whether EA can get someone to do the port, because Bioware won't do it (even if it is done, which I doubt) I'd say.

Chances aren't great.

I would guess that you are right about ME2 and ME3 (assuming that it gets made), however since MS published ME1 there is probably some significant hurdles to be jumped in order to bring the original ME to the PS3. My guess is that it won't happen for ME1, but ME2 will probably be out a year after ME2 on the 360 and PC, and simultaneous release for ME3 on all platforms.

Too bad for PS3 only owners as ME1 was a GREAT game, and I can't wait for ME2!

I hope you guys do get it for your PS3s, because it's awesome and the more people that play it the better.

The 360 version is a bit technically flawed so if they do port it they'd want to fix that on the Ps3 version.

Yah, but this is EA we are talking about here. When has EA ever kept a game exclusive? I don't think that they ever have. EA wants money. EA wants to sell more games. How can they sell more games? They can sell them by making them multi-platform. It is simple logic.

It is technically possible as Sony has published games on the PC in the past. But I doubt it.

That is why I contend that they will wait to publish both games at the same time on the PS3.

That would be interesting. I would love to see the graphical differences. And Bioware doesn't have a history of making some selections available only to certain consoles. At least not yet. Can you imagine? "You can only play an Asari on a PS3" Hmm, cool concept actually.
