No, the sad truth is that Blizzard can't keep a dead character dead. Kerrigan, Diablo, Sylvannas Windrunner, hell Kael'Thas even came back when they all should have been doing little more than feeding daisies and worms.

I'm just going to throw this out there. Also, I don't know if it qualifies but... Spoiler Alert?

The character involved in the trailer in question is one of the main characters to the StarCraft 2 storyline. I won't say what he does or not, but he is a prisoner - set free with strings attached. You play the game and this comes out to light in the first few missions of the campaign. Also, if you take the final version of the trailer, the one that is in game, it makes a tad bit more sense. Also, to be honest, he is one hell of a resilient and bad-ass dude - the one time you see him in battle, his lugging around a minigun TF2-Heavy style. I don't know if all or most marines can compare.

OT: Great, awesome comic. Love your work in general. This one just made my chest hurt.

LOL! 11/10!

It's so true though...

It's referencing the opening cinematic, which laboriously shows the main character getting a Marine suit put on (which he then stays in for the rest of the game), the cutscene ending with him saying 'it's about time'. But of course, as anyone who has played multiplayer will testify, one marine will be killed pretty quickly by a swarm of Zerglings.

For the swarm!
Oh, so it's one of those things that's only funny if you're familiar with the series.

*polite chuckle for the effort*
Better than last week's where you had to have watched Blade Runner and remember a specific quote to get the joke. Hell, I on'y got introduced to blade runner cause of my dadm abnd I forgot the quote cause it was how many years ago?

I just didn't understand this one at first becuase it almost looks like the monsters are dead, so by the time he appears the war is over
Have to disagree there bud.
Blade runner is a classic of cinema that's been available for nearly 30 years. It isn't the artist's fault you never saw something the rest of us have. Starcraft 2 hasn't been out for 30 days and was announced only a few years back. Lots of people haven't played or seen it. Lots of gamers aren't pc gamers and thus, wouldn't be interested in a preview trailer from years ago.

I'm in a bad mood when I read this so I'll apoloogize for the swearing

1) Get your fucking facts straight. I said it had been a while since I'd seen blade runner it's a very old movie, most popular with the older generations. My dad is 50 and he didn't recognize the quote, despite blade runner being big in his youth an he was a fan. Never said I didn't see it.

2) People have been waiting for starcraft II for a decade. it was announced when I was less than half way through highschool, which was 6-8 years ago, so it has been the fair majority of that decade.

If you quote the text directly, I should be able to get it, but changing words in a quote to make it fit a comic doens't do that for me. Did I complain? No, I posted a joke that poked fun. Don't educate me for it

If you have the presence of mind to apologize for the swearing before hitting post, then you had the presence of mind not to use such naughty words in the first place. Not that I give two shits, I'm just point it out.

1). Okay... but you still didn't get a pretty easily recognizable movie reference. My point is that lots more people have seen blade runner than have seen an 8 year old pc game trailer. So when discussing which joke should be more understandable to a mass audience, it makes sense that more people should get a blade runner joke than a starcraft joke.

2). And? I said a few. Non specific term to describe a number greater than 2, less than 10.

Really wasn't trying to flame you there. I'm really trying hard not to flame you now, mostly because I'm on probation for flaming someone already. I won't even take the easy one liner about educating you, though it's right there...

I've seen this exact thing done before, in video form with clips from the actual cinematic and original Starcraft (months ago). So meh.

I really thought the trailer was a bit ridiculous. It tries to build up the marine as an epic and amazing character, but really he's just a grunt who gets rapidly slaughtered and replaced. Hardly as iconic as, say, any of the hero characters.

What? I´m sorry, but i don´t get it. Could someone explain to me, please?
It's a parody of this:
I still don't get it. But that's because I have no affiliation with Starcraft at all.
The joke is that the movie glorifies the marine... the weakest terran unit, who is going to be slaughtered in seconds...
it also plays on the rush thing (time it takes to build and attack with a lot of basic units)... by the time one marine is built, the zerg built two dozen zerglings, so the one marine is shown coming out into the battlefield in the end of the cinematic...
and in the comic it continues where the cinematic leaves off... he comes out of the barracks... right into a swarm of oncoming zerg who are going to slaughter him right away.

This comic's like a time-capsule from a time before folks knew zerg is weak in Terrancraft.
