You're not an idiot, I just disagree with you. While I really enjoy the stylized graphics of some games, I also enjoy massive realism that comes with some games these days. I would prefer it if they both advanced in what they could do.Abengoshis said:Meh, I prefer games with an art style other than photo-realism. Realistic games just aren't my favourite genre. While I agree that the engine is absolutely amazing, I can't help but feel there's something lacking, it has no expression, it doesn't really have any "life". If I look at a portrait done in the 16th Century it will probably look quite realistic, but not quite there. When I look at a Cubist piece of art, or a Surrealist piece it is much more interesting because it stands out - it takes you out of reality and replaces it with something far more interesting. The same applies for games. This engine takes you out of reality, then puts you back in it...the only thing that would make it more interesting is what happens in the game, but the overall look of the game still feels boring.
I would take Lostwinds over this just for its [Lostwinds'] beautiful art style, no kidding.
Obviously people will disagree with me, and someone will probably reply to this saying I'm an idiot.
I'm not to great with computers and the best game I can run is one of the old Doom games. I might have to check it ou then.Abedeus said:Any mid-end PC is more powerful than an Xbox and almost equal (in terms of raw power) to PS3.Tdc2182 said:But the thing was you could barely even run the last engine on a well indoubt computer. This looks like it would murder it. Although it showed an xbox 360 logo.Abedeus said:Why? If your PC can run most of the multi-platform games (Prototype or Fallout 3 come to mind), you should have no problems with CryEngine 3.Internet Kraken said:That is awesome.
To bad it would absolutely murder my computer.
Sure, it will look the best on a high-end monster PC, but we regular schmoes will also get to see some nice stuff.
I can run Prototype, one of the most fast-paced games ever ported to PCs, in 1680x1050, full details and V-Sync (I MUST run in V-Sync, or I get stutterings - weird, but common porting bug). Same with Fallout 3. In fact, there were tests that proved that PC graphics (even not modified by users) are superior to Xbox 360 and equal to PS3.
That was almost a year ago. When Crysis 2 or the first game to use the new engine is released, anyone should be able to run it. Crysis 1 was a wake-up call for a lot of people, even for me.

If you ask me they're the least important factor of a game
Farcry 2 used dunia, not cryengine 2.Gritimo The Odd said:Amazing graphics as ususal from Crytek, but what worries me is that im not remembering many games besides far cry 2 and Crysis using the old engine. Im pretty sure there are more than those two i just cant think of any at this moment that were obviously using the cry engine. I just hope more developers will give it a shot and use it to its full potential
