You think that's bad? I bought Gridrunner Revolution when it got released on Steam and a week later or so it's on sale for 2€.

so they screw people over like that and THEN ban the people that complain about it?
horrid! let's see how long it takes for people to peal off
Yeah apparently they learned all of their business practices from the people who ran the Stark Wars Galaxies MMO. Ya know, teleport everyone who is protesting into space so that they can't do anything while banning others who complain too hard? That was super classy then too.

But honestly this is just another sign as to why the PC gaming market is in such shambles - there's no customer loyalty. It happens on the consoles as well but there pirating isn't quite as easy or widespread so it's less of an impact. While a console gamer might get pissed when he sees a game on sale for the holidays or a Game of the Year edition with all of the DLC included for real cheap (or their "exclusive" appearing on the PC with stuff you'll never see on the console (*grumble*gearsofwar*grumble*) the PC gamers can do something about it.

They don't have to just grin and bear it or not play the game, they can pirate yo shizzle. Sure it's not a great way of handling problems but you're sure not making people happy by releasing a product that in no way properly represents the Star Trek license, pissing off those who had the audacity to buy it earl and then banning people. It's funny to think how much good PR they could have bought with a month of free days to those who early adopted but instead they're getting flak.

But it's an MMO. I'm not surprised. Where's WoW?

Meh, if the STO forums were anything like the Champions Online ones, the people that got banned were the ones spamming that they were leaving because of the changes. On every thread they could find.

If this is the case, I support Cryptic. More studios should call bluffs like that. Hell, at least it makes life quieter for the 90% of the player base that just want to play the damn game...

Cryptic seem to have a knack for pissing their customer base off, You'd have thought they'd learned from when they upset the Champions online subscribers over the whole "Limited" Lifetime Subscription fascade, but... nope! Guess not!
I think they HAD to combine the ST-O and CO subscription numbers, as they've been losing customers hand over fist.

Both games aren't doing as well as Cryptic hoped, CO is bleeding subscriptions badly due to mismanagement, mediochre tech support and very bad PR and I see ST-O going the same way, which is sad as due to bad management and even worse customer handling, two potentially excellent games will just be added to the increasingly large stack of "Games that almost made it"...

The latest from Cryptic? "Our friends at The Escapist have nominated Champions Online for the Best MMOG of 2009 award. We're very humbled and proud to be nominated!"

Guys... you got nominated, that's all the credit you deserve, chances are, the only credit you'll get.

They certainly won't get nominated for "Best customer service for an MMO"... Neither will NCSoft, but that's another story...

Obviously they should have accepted that this would happen, but it shouldn't have happened so soon.

A very jerk move.
The 30 day free trial didn't even work on my account until I had paid for a month.

Actually that was quite sedate for Joe (excluding the fight), and was spot on. I played STO, found it quite dull and an unimaginative take on the series. I'm back to playing Bridge Commander which has more exiting space battles and flexibility (plus it has some awesome mods).

OT: I feel a bit cheated now. I wasted even more money on that game. I could have learned my lesson for less cash.

Early adopters pay more than those who wait? You don't say. If I had been one of the early adopters, I would have been happy that they still actively trying to increase the player base.
This isn't exactly an old game. This is a game that's barely-over 1 month, and now new players get 2 months for free? Yeah, I'd call that a pretty big deal. I doubt I'd be throwing a shit-storm on the forums like some people clearly were, but it's certainly something that would make me reconsider that monthly fee they expect me to pay.

Now, had the game been out for a year or so, then we'd be at a different story.

As a customer of their other game Champions Online I can say I'm not surprised by this move from Cryptic at this point.

Really honestly disappointed, they'd been so good and non moronic for a good long time, then they started releasing the games and just consistently got worse and worse.

Sad.

Seriously these people are on a friggin roll anymore. My theory is that they have some quantum grade morons in charge of these "awesome" decisions.

You always get the shaft if you buy on release day, its the price of impatience.
This is my new favorite quote.
Even with the additional comma?
There. Fixed.

I guess it doesn't help when you're cat sits on your keyboard while you're quoting someone. ;-)
The error was on my part, I went back and edited my post after reading your reply :/

It was 10 bucks cheaper a couple weeks back on Steam, that's when I jumped in on it. But, the price difference isn't the issue. Its that extra month. That's essentially 25 bucks worth of savings there.

That's fine. I thought I had inadvertently added some punctuation in there and my cat is notorious for flopping on the keyboard. There are quite a few cat-shaped dents in the wall near my desk.

Since we're on the subject, "its" should have an apostrophe in there... and the sentence would be better served, I believe, with a semicolon instead of a comma. Also, I'm skeptical about the "You always" part as well. Shouldn't it be "You'll always"? Okay, I'm done now. ;-)

Anyway, I just liked that line, "it's the price of impatience". I almost go out of my way not to be an early adopter and it just resonated with me, is all.
