Mount and Blade, and it's expansion Warband. Also, it's impressive mod community.

When you look at the screenshots, or videos, it really doesn't impress much, but when you play it, it's easy to get swept away by it.
Definitely. Although, I only play it modded now, the main campaign just seems more limited in comparision.

However, I actually like DA2, so I'm currently finishing up my second playthrough.
Oh absolutely, add the mods. The original game is nice enough, but when you add the mods that can really flesh out the flavor of the world, it adds just another level of addiction. I think I need to go sell more prisoners now....

Dragon Age Origins. I expected what we got with 2 for Origins but when I actually played it I was hit by one giant, 'meh'
Agreed. I think a lot of people enjoyed DA:O because it resembled old RPGs like Baldur's Gate II (replace with anything based on Infinity engine) and were actually expecting the game that would improve the experience. I can't loose the feeling that DA2 is actually Mass Effect 2.5: Thedas Adventures.

edit: Ain't saying Mass Effect is bad, but I didn't buy, play and enjoy DA:O because of Mass Effect. If I had wanted Mass Effect "feeling" I would have played ME. I guess for a lot of people Bioware didn't deliver the kind of game (not talking about quality, but rather the type) they were anticipating (I'm one of them).

For those of you, like me, who recently bought a game and have been hit by a "meh" attack, name a game or two that really caught your attention and you thoroughly enjoyed.

DA2 isn't a bad game, but to me it feels so much like a MMO that I don't care what happens and I can't be bother to pay attention. I am dedicating this thread to people like me who need something riveting and fun to bring us out of our funks.

An oldie, but a goodie: Portal is one game that really caught my attention, partially because it was so good, and partly because I had no idea it would be so fun. I am really hoping they can catch the magic again in the upcoming sequel.
Go find a copy of Baldur's Gate II. It's the penultimate cure for any lingering disappointment from DA2. The reason? Because it's everything DA2 should have been but wasn't.
To add to this: use gog.com. 10$ with no drm, they adapt it to all OS, and it comes with extras. And no, I'm not a bot.

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines such a great game, I still miss Troika.
It was so ... nice ... of Activision to force them to release an incomplete game, which subsequently drove their company into the ground.
(as well as having given them a buggy-ass beta source engine to work with)
I'll take buggy over never playing a game like that.

Agreed. VMB is still one of best games I've ever played, purely for the world, dialogue and atmosphere, combat is a little shitty but that doesn't bother me.

I can vouch for this as well.

Also on GoG, if your looking for RPG's, pick up the Fallout games, Icewind Dale series, and Neverwinter Nights. All $10 and under!

OT: While in GoG.com, get Beyond Good and Evil. Its $10 and comes with the soundtrack, which is awesome beyond measure.

/thread, lol

Seriously though, I am happy with DA2... not as happy as Greg Tito, but still.

As far as "meh"... Disney's Epic Micky has such promise...

Braviary is clearly the second best Normal/Flying. All hail King Staraptor.

But Black has Houndoom, and the better Legendary.
Black has Houndoom? Sweet. I gots white, so that means I get wild Poregons, which is cool. Also, better looking legendary. Just can't take ultra-mega chicken seriously...

After playing the demo version of DA2 and reading some reviews I started Planescape: Torment once again and I enjoyed it even more :).

May I also point out for Bioware, that "Three answer options for good RPG is not enough !!"

I would challenge anyone to play the hotel and not view it an amazing piece.

You very rarely get more than three in games and, depending on choices and the way you are seen by people, you could have four or five options at times.

I got Metro 2033 the other day, a game I had been looking forward to for a while. Anyways, I wasn't exactly impressed with it and I never feel like starting playing again... Not even sure what it is about the game I dislike(apart from the soulless monologues -_-).

I recently played the Uncharted series for the first time, and damn, did I love every second of it!

Honestly, I'm a bit miffed with DA:2. It's a good game, nothing wholly wrong with it, it just sort of under-delivers. The same locale the entire game doesn't help (honestly, wtf?), and contrary to popular reviews, they do in fact reuse the same dungeon levels. (A f-ing lot, actually, so I don't know where some people get off saying all the dungeons/levels are varied. It has to be one of the biggest offenders for "reused material" in any recent game.)

I wish there was a next-gen Vampire: Masquerade, since OP reminds me of it. I've been keeping an eye on "The Secret World", (Funcom MMO). The setting and lore looks out of this world unique and interesting. There is virtually nothing similar that can be played at the moment, even for single-player games. The ones we do have, are Very outdated or very short, like Amnesia: Dark Descent.

It's an amazing game, sure ... but the last few missions are just lame.
So it's incomplete, rushed to a deadline.

Buggy wouldn't be an issue if the company had survived long enough to fix the bugs.

I had a "Meh" moment with Origins, and therefore have not picked up the sequel.

I will be picking up Total War: Shogun 2 within the next few days, though, so I'm super-ultra excited.

I believe I took one to the skull with DA2, so I bought Sacred 2 and its expansion, ice and blood, and to my surprise, I am not even sure if I want to play any other game this year, with the amount of content, replay value, and overall beauty of this gem. :)

Bioware can suck my balls right now.

I'm playing Fallout New Vegas instead of DA2 and I am totally blown away by its quality, especially considering it was made by Obsidian. Its taken Obsidian from a "Company I will never buy from again " to "tentatively hopeful about Dungeon Siege 3"

At least in New Vegas your choices alter gameplay and the ending. DA2 is the illusion of choice.

I must be one of the few that is actually enjoying Dragon Age 2 a lot. Well anyway I just got Tactics Ogre because a friend is too generous and helped me snag it for half the cost and I'll be playing that soon. As a fanatic of Final Fantasy Tactics (not the pile of crap that is the Tactics Advanced series, the worst games of it's kind) I've high hopes for it.
