Well, if they are using it for piracy or cheating purposes then I don't have any sympathy for you, and am infact happy this happened. For those just using homebrew, that really sucks.

While the current news is true, I would suggest against giving TSA anymore hits or visitors. Their reporting is horrendously biased towards publishers who "tip extra" for good reviews and news.

Their article on this matter just solidifies the point that they don't know what the hell they talk about most of the time.

Guys, not all homebrew is piracy, very little of it is.

Hell, I was going to install it because a guy was working on the PS3 to support more video codecs and because I want to see what homebrew games will come out of this.
Sure, and most people buy Playboy for the interviews.

I know a small number of people have legitimate uses for homebrew, but the vast majority will use custom firmware to illegally obtain games or emulate ROMs of other systems they do not own either.

Yes Sony sucks for their lacking codec support on the PS3 but it's not as if there aren't non-piracy-enabling ways to get around this... I use PS3 Media Server to play my .mkv videos and it works great. When I get my next paycheck I'm building an XMBC and that will also work.

There is no excuse for piracy-enabling firmware. Pirates are destroying the industry, just look at the recent COD news for another reason why this is so if the theft alone is not convincing enough.
Well, I would certainly buy it for the interviews, but that is beside the point.

Well, I know people who would actually have massive use for homebrew applications and emulate systems and games that they legally own.

Yet, what if I want to store those videos in their native format for playback or if my computer is off?

Yes, there is if it is being used for legitimate purposes. Piracy may affect the industry, but it is very overblown. Plus, hackers have always been screwing with online matches, this just gives them another way.

I see no harm in the CFW, only that certain people will misuse it but that is no reason for it's purge from existence.

"If you must install Custom Firmware 3.55 today, check the list and make sure your model isn't listed."

Not too sure if I'm getting the right angle here, but it seems the Escapist is helping piracy in some way. I mean, why give people warning? If you get your console bricked because of piracy, then that seems like karma to me.
I feel like a broken record here, but not all homebrew is piracy.

Case and point...

If you came for to support the cause, it is clearly lost on most of these people. For your own eyes though, I believe you may enjoy this Tidbit from the resent convention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUGGJpn2_zY (Console Hacking from c3 - By Fail0verflow.)

They deserve it, i get the whole freedom thing but defeating the overall concept of console gaming is unethical.

Sometimes, freedom needs to be restrained.
I get why some anti Apple people complain, but this is a whole new league.
In many ways the PS3 is dead unless they cut off its legs and design new ones.

Well, fuck the majority. Because of them, most would label me as a pirate. I just want community driven content and support.
When you hear Homebrew, most companies will think of Piracy. Not community driven content. Blame the people who use it for piracy. None-the-less...I like what Sony is doing.

2percent tops of the people who download this are not using it for pirated games, tehy may also play homebrew, but its basically all Pirated games. Thus I smile and laugh at anyone who got bricked by this.
Well, I know several people who downloaded it and are now freaking the fuck out wondering if it is also a delayed bricking.
I hope each one of them gets a brick, and tell them if they do I laugh at them.
Why would you wish such a fate upon someone?

Companies, not typical users.

Typical users think actual homebrew.

What is Sony doing? Advertising features, then taking them away? Eventually the PS3 adds will have to be it only does nothing.

One of the main features of this homebrew firmware update is it protects the system from a devised way of playing pirated games. Well, there are two ways now but I don't think people will be happy about bricking their system.

I just wish that I wasn't be stripped of advertised features for being an Early adopter to the system. I wonder what I'll lose next. Is it going to be wired internet support? They can do whatever the hell they want to this box, and nobody can do anything about it. That's why I'm supporting these individuals who are opposed to the dominance and bullying that Sony is trying to wield as a way to oppress those who care about what this system is capable of.

I don't ever recall Sony making promises.
