Steam bugs me in a similar way. Not that I can't afford the stuff that is on sale, it's that I actually see the stuff on sale that I wouldn't usually buy and think "oh damn, that's cheap, get that". All those little "oh damn"'s add up to one big "JESUS CHRIST I SPENT THAT MUCH?!?"
I soooooo hear you on that one! Just spent at least 10 or 15 euros today on games I would normally have never bought... I dread the bank statement at the end of the month!

Ever since I realized steam can just debit directly from my bank account my yearly game budget has gone through the roof! Before it was like 50 bucks a game... wait for that one two or three special games a year, 150 bucks and that was it... Now as you said it all adds up to a HOLY SHAMOLIANS experience that is probably close to 3x what I used to spend!

I wanna know, indie story pack, yay or nay?
I don't have too much, about 35-40 quid and I wanna wait and see for some good things, or things I especially want, so is this pack good or not?
From what I see it is VERY good. Gish looks awesome, Recettear is really fun and original. Puzzle Agent is made by TellTale which is nothing but quality and I've heard good things about And Yet it Moves, don't know much about Jolly Rover though or whatever it's called
I've bought them, I probably won't get round to playing them for a while, i've bought a few games recently and haven't caught up with them all, mainly due to minecraft.

The only major problem I have with Steam at the moment is that Audiosurf still isn't on Mac.

I don't use Steam often, so I can't really complain about much else.

Wow...you're really really broke.

Steam only bugs me by putting something on sale the day after I buy it. Makes me very sad when I buy something for 40 dollars, and the very next day it's only 10 or something.
Indeed, I bought Alpha Protocol about a week ago for $30 and then it was on the sale yesterday for $7.50. Always painful seeing that. Good game though.

Speaking of that indie deal, can someone tell me if those game are good?
Yeah, I know it's 5 bucks and all, but I have like 7 euro left on my steam wallet, and I won't be able to add to it for a few weeks at least.

TELL ME DAMNIT!
If you aren't afraid of japanese things, Recettear is worth that price all on it's own.
I personally found Gish and "and yet it moves" to be pretty boring games, but that's just me.

I haven't played the others, but Telltale did Puzzle Agent and I generally like their games.

Steam deal are great, but they do hook me often and I end up spending too much. What pisses me off is when I look for a game and find it slightly cheaper than full price somewhere else, I buy it, then a week later steam throws it on sale for 50%...... Batman Arkham Asylum is my most recent example.

I'm an unemployed uni student and so far spent about £15 on the sale and I do not intend to stop. Food can wait.
Wanna be a pal and hook me up? For serious though, how do you afford the games and everyday needs as well, gas for my car eats up everything I get.
You've mentioned your problem in pretty much every post you've made so far. You're paying for a car. That's a pretty expensive habit right there.

Sell your car. Buy a bike. Cycle everywhere for free and get fit at the same time.

I've done the same thing too many times that I'd like to admit to. Steam is conditioning people not to buy games until they go on sale, which may or not be sound marketing.

I went and checked out the story pack and I was quite impressed with this offer. However, I already have Recettear and I'm not sure how good the other games are. I liked the Professor Layton games and I hear Puzzle Agent was very similar, but the others I've never heard of.

Nothing has really excited me on Steam yet. I do always enjoy this time of the year though, some good deals usually.

"Still"? I have a hunch it's never going to be. I mean, they haven't tapped into the lucrative iOS app market yet, so that's a good sign they're majorly uninterested in expanding into other platforms.

Worse than not having money to spend, is having money to spend. I don't have steam but my backlog of GoG games is about to claim sovereignity.

Seriously, starve for a day to get this. I get cheap coffee, well fairly cheap, large drinks for about 1.50 everyday, usually about 3 times a day. I would just make my own coffee for a whole day and bam, I can pay for it. Seriously $5? If I knew you better, I would gift it to you on steam.

Wait... Doesn't your college have on-site dorms? Do that and you won't have to worry about gas money. Even if you have to wait till next year, you'd be saving so much on gas you could afford the games full price.

Steam does disappoint me with alarming frequency, but it's not through the special deals. Just the platform.

OT: There are some pretty tempting deals that I simply can't afford, especially during the holidays. This makes me a sad panda.

$5? Damn, dude. How broke are you?
Pretty much sums up my thoughts.
Hey I'm nickle and pennying everything I can to save $2.50 for Deus Ex GotY Edition.

EDIT: what ticks me off is when I buy a $20 game for $10, then find out the next day it's $5
