Of course, it is a comic and Nolan is going for realism, but I still like Jack way better as the Joker.

i'll be the first to say heath did a fantastic job with what they gave him.his was a joker character not often seen by the batfan.but i think i can speak for most and say his joker was really fantastic.now that said,i'll just say what we,(the fans who read detective, and batman),know 100% that this was not our joker.our joker is emaculately dressed, very spiffy, and in a psychotic kind of way, deleriously happy.now heath's joker was perfect for the way it fit in the movie.he actually reminded me alot of a baddly whipped dog.but this was not our joker.so to think of not using this character again is as insane as,well...you know who.i'm about 98%sure they planned on using heath as the joker in the next movie.it's really very simple.joker goes to arkham.joker meets harley,(or whomever).becomes a new man,and cleans himself up to become, tadaaa, our boy.then he and harvey try to kill each other and everyone else in gotham.seems simple doesn't it?i think this whole story was meant to be played out in 2 movies and heath passing on put a kink in it.but they could use this to thier advantage as in "new joker, new guy".

I'm going with Khell_Sennet on this one, retire him for the rest of the Nolan BM films, bring him back some other time.

my personal favorite being Mark Hamill's cackling interpretation of the role in Batman: The Animated Series.
Best Joker ever. I will fight to the death for that character.

i think it's stupid. Heath played a good Joker but he wasn't a great joker and Hammill played a great Joker, a friend gave me a good reasoning behind it too.

for one the Joker is rather sinister. at first glance he appears to be a nice clown, however the closer you get and figure out, you realize he's NOT a good clown but some sort of evil person. Hammill was both of those. the Joker always had a joke behind what he was doing, he wanted a laugh
In the beginning of the "Going Sane" collection, the Joker does act like a normal clown at a parade. Does a quick juggling routine, a tramp walk, falls down and ends the show with a big bang.
Joker:
Oh Yes indeedy-- they're going to die laughing! I know it's and old joke, but it's a classic!"

Honestly, Heath was my favorite actor(Currently Hugh Laurie for those who care), he did Joker really really well, which is the only reason I even like Dark Knight. Honestly though, I much rather them, in future movies, use Joker. Joker is a very interesting character, probably my favorite, along with Gambit.

Also, a different actor brings something different to the character, each actor who did the joker made that specific joker, so the next actor to play the Joker could quite honestly show another facet of the Jokers character.

You haven't seen a lot of films, have you? Ledger was good, he was very good, but the single best performance by anyone in anything of all time ever? Nah.

I don't think the Joker should be retired, because there will always be the chance for someone to come and do another brilliant performance as The Joker.

The only issue with retiring the Joker is that he is Batman's opposite. The Joker is the anti-batman. I agreed that Ledger could not do the Joker, I was also admitted I was wrong half way though the movie. That does not mean we should lose the chance or the setup that Ledger has put down.

Oh no, i don't think the role should be retired either. I just doubt anyone will top Ledger's performance.

you guys really need to read the comics.heath did a good job for sure.but his was not our,(the real)joker.so being as the real joker hasn't surfaced in a batman movie yet.although mark hamils joker is the one i'd like to see in a movie being as his is the closest.we will see another, better joker in the future.maybe even the next movie.

Too far.
I can guarantee that a lot of people in that group aren't even Batman fans, just Ledger fans.
The Joker is too important in the Batman universe to just never appear in any film again.
People can be idiots.
