I'm all for epic, but why dark?
Because dark seems to be the "thing" right now. I mean christ isn't even Spore getting a dark makeover? That game was about as far from dark as you could be without being Katamari. That being said, the devs for this game made many a nerd happy by getting Hamil and Conroy to reprise their roles as Batman and Joker, my next question to them is did they complete the set by getting Harley's voice actress as well?

GRRRAAAARRRRRR! Bullshit system exclusivity, this might have been the game that would have made me a constant xbox gold subscriber too.

Hm. Never really been a fan of Superman but... maybe all that was missing was some stubble!
Oh, and evil red eyes and a willingness to actually beat people to a pulp.

Should probably have made this into a movie than a game.

I love a good cinematic and that one is definitely good. Hopefully the gameplay is just as good. I doubt I'll jump right into that game though, I will wait and see how the first few months go before I buy.

Not to burst your bubble, but you're like half a week late. Even _I_ made a thread about it a couple of days ago!

Anyway, I hear that it's going to a standard $14.99 a month for PCs, and with PS3s you just need PSN+. Is this correct?
I know that PSN Plus isn't required for the game. That was part of the panel info session.
Those bastards!

How come PS3 Owners don't have to pay? Yet PC players are going to be nickled and dimed for it, you have my word!
That doesn't mean you're not paying monthly already. I think it's this way so no one has to be excluded or pay an extra fee.
How is that so? PSN is free, you only have to pay for PSN+. They've said though that there will be a monthly subscription service for the game though. Which must now be referring to the PC owners.

How is that NOT paying an extra fee?
No, you're paying through the PS3 as well, they're just not going to force you to get PSN+ on top of that.

PSN will be free, but you're going to pay monthly for the game on the PS3.

Oh.

...well, I'm still not happy with it having a subscription in the first place. I can guarantee that if they made it a one-off payment they'd earn far more in sales.
Yeah, me too.

But whoever said Sony and Warner Bros. had foresight?

Since it's an MMO, they use a good chunk of the subscription fee to keep the servers from blowing up. Which, in my opinion, is money well spent, considering that if the servers go down, the game isn't playable.

Yeah I know, I'm going to wait for Guild Wars 2 [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/] to succeed or fail before I actually start waving that around. If it does succeed though, there goes a large excuse on the Publisher's part.

Though I agree with your point and I'd pay it regardless. That's just kind of a "In a perfect world..." thing.

Can anyone explain to me why Superman randomly yelled "Batman!" and then nothing came of it (I know we were supposed to assume Batman died, but this seemed to out of place to me)?

OT: That was one cool trailer, hopefully the game is good. By online do they mean MMO?

Cinematic trailers are neat and all, but have no real relevecy to the game itself other than acting as a very basic storyboard.

I paid for a lifetime subscription to Champions Online, and while initially saw a lot of potential it never seemed to live up to it.

CO looked like the better game early on, and truthfully to get me to seriously give the DC Heroes game a spin they are going to have to impress me with shots of the game play, and character creation/customization aspects. Right now when it comes to MMORPGs I've been burned too many times and wasted too many hours hoping they would be improved after launch. I consider no information on a gameplay aspect to be the same as bad information because it seems to me that every time an MMORPG keeps it's cards close to it's chest it's not doing it to protected developmental secrets or whatever, but largely to prevent potential customers from seeing something that looks like garbage, or otherwise wouldn't impress them.

Also, when it comes to the PS-3 release thing, while this game is being developed by Sony I will point out that pretty much every MMORPG that has had a promised console release has not delivered on this as far as I can see EXCEPT for Final Fantasy Online. "Age Of Conan", "Warhammer Online", and others all saw PC released, and the promised console releases seemed to turn to vapour never mind a simultaneous release.

If any company is going to release a console-based MMORPG like this, it's probably going to be Sony (again), but I wouldn't hold your breath, or get all jealous about that one until we actually see the PS-3 version sitting on the shelves.

...want. Want violently. Want in a nuclear sense. Want Want Want.

Can't wait to make some kickass character and rock it out alongside Ultramarine Luthor and Super-Stubble. ^_~

Anyways, the story intro has intrigued me and I think it might actually be pretty good. I just don't like that the heroes or villains will whine to you when you don't answer the call because a bus just landed on grandma who was trying to save a kitten from it as you try to lift the thing before it goes sky high with both of them and the pet store that's just right near it... I'm sorry guys, you're full grown heroes and you've been at this longer than I, I'm pretty sure you don't need me to hold your hand and you shouldn't be upset with me doing my job.
From what I understand, it's not going to be a case of Superman standing in Metropolis handing out quests to everyone, but a more freeform experience - A player sees an armoured truck and can either ignore it, escort it (if they're a hero) or wreck it and steal the cash (if they're sensible). If a hero escorts it, some NPC villains (or other players) will try to hijack it and you have to fight them off, if a villain hijacks it, NPC heroes will come to try to stop them before they can make a getaway.

Like I say, that's my understanding and, if they keep the tiers in, it will be AWESOME.

Yeah, but it IS produced by Sony, so it's not like they're doing it for funsies ;)

OT - This is the first time. Ever. Ever. That Superman has looked cool. I have never been so interested in a DC game in my entire life.

Also, I understand there's a push to make a load of Marvel heroes on day one to run in and kill as many DC heroes as possible. I want in on that...

Is there a reason the giant chick was wearing a suit that strategically avoided her ass completely?

I mean really. Sex appeal is one thing but come on!

Well that was needlessly violent. Don't they want to bring in people who don't follow comics, like kids with parents with some disposable income? You're not going to do that by showing Superman being stabbed to death, Batman's corpse being beaten like a pinata, and Wonder Woman dead with balls of kryptonite in her mouth. You're only going to get the few hundred thousand(if that) that regularly buy comics.
I have never read a comic in my life but that trailer easily sold the game for me. I would buy it if I didn't hate MMOs and the thought of pay to play.

I only recognised Superman, Batman and Wonderwomen. Whoever the hell everyone else was I have no idea. What was with the giant lady lol?
