Dead island reveal trailer, piece of art or too far?

It's almost like people have never seen a zombie movie before. The Dawn of the Dead Remake has a zombified child appear in the first 5 minutes of the movie, and rip the throat out of someone. She was far more mutilated then this girl got too. And The Walking Dead TV show has the main character shooting a similiar zombie child's head off in the first scene.

It's a common theme zombie medias use. They want to remind you that in a zombie apocolypse, absolutely no one is safe. War usually tries to avoid civilian, women, and children casualities. Zombies don't care. They eat everything. It's sad, and it's scary, and this trailer portrays it perfectly. The only thing I dislike about the trailer is all the pseudo-intellectuals it's spawned, spouting stuff like "oh, it's so nuanced" and "It's just using over blown emotion to make you think it's good". Phh. Yeah. Go back to wandering around art museums, criticizing other peoples works of art, losers.

I honestly don't see why killing a child is worse then killing an adult...it just confuses me.
Because people tend to view children as more innocent but universally it's because a life didn't get to actually see life just a glimpse and nothing more.

OT: I liked it, I would say it's art because it conveyed emotion in its brief timeframe, the futility of trying to fight a zombie attack and the tragedy of your own family ending up killing you. Walking Dead had the same "family killing zombie family member" but overdramatisized it to the point of barely being relatable to the audience.

I looked foward to the game before the trailer, still looking foward to it now.

This trailer is well made, and it does show you that a zombie attack can still be emotional.

:D

I'm not a huge fan of horror, although I've played the odd game, but that trailer kinda disturbed me. It's very, very effective, but what they did with the little girl went a more than a little bit far for my tastes. Then again, it produced the kind of feeling I haven't felt in the horror genre for a long time, so maybe that's a good thing...

/edit
Also, seeing as no one's actually linked the trailer yet...

Umm how come Feast 2 got away with so much worse? Such bullshit a movie can do so much worse but a video game that is tastefully done can't.

Watch at your own risk. It is disturbing. Seriously disturbing. I am not kidding. If you can't handle the Dead Island trailer do not watch this.
I just watched that first I didn't know what to think, we're they both going to die? Then he chucked the baby into the air, I started laughing then... D: faced. But, shit happens, still would've tried to save it myself.

Some people don't seem to understand that it wasn't about the goddamn child, but the entire family.

I thought the trailer was fantastic. It really drove the point that zombies don't care who dies. They're zombies.

A piece of art? Its just another trailer. Whats so special about this? Yeah, I see the emotion in it, but thats pretty much it really nothing special, at least in my oppinion of course

True, but that fact that the child is there is what gets people. If it were just the parents, then it wouldn't be nearly as disturbing, but neither would it be as effective. She's what really makes the trailer stand out.

Eh. I didn't like it. For one thing it pisses me off when games tout how realistic their body destruction is, how many different places each limb can break and how many layers of tissue they have, because ultimately, it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. As long as all the death animations don't look identical, you never notice stuff like that in-game, it's just meaningless crap for them to spout on the box.

And while this was a very well put together video, it wasn't a good trailer - in that it didn't show anything about the game, besides that it has zombies on an island. Which you can pretty much learn from the title.

This trailer a piece of art, fantastic concept. I would seriously buy this game based on the CGI (never thought i would say this).

If it elicits an emotional response it qualifies as art.
Whether it's notable or not has no bearing on the matter.

Yes, but only as part of a family. Only because you see the father desperately trying to save her, only because you see the mother's look of horror as her own daughter attacks her husband.

Anyone who said it wasn't nuanced is speaking out their arse.

Both explore a harsh but real reality (in context of flesh eating monster worlds). There shouldn't be a problem with either one from the media's standpoint. I mean both can be emotionally impacting on an individual level but there is nothing inherently evil about either one. C'mon the hero couldn't save them which is what both boils down to. So what we are protecting kids from the whole "good doesn't always win everytime" fact of life

I thought the artistic typically does 'take things too far' for many people. A discerning mind does not come on its own. Some have difficulty with certain images because of the associations they bring to them. Geoff from Achievement Hunter couldn't watch the video because he couldn't distance it from his feelings for his daughter. Others can't stand Piss Christ because of feelings they have for their god. Basically, these things often come down to breaking down what others find sacred, and breaking down the sacred is what art is all about.

I find it tastefully done. It didn't feature vomit/pee/shit/child porn and other "bad" stuff.. and the trailer itself is presented in a way that you would think "oh, thats something really creatively done!". Props to the folks!
