Would anyone be bothered if it did parody Scientology? It's not like anyone gives a crap about those bastards.
They would get sued.

That's the reason he made this announcement.
Since when can you get sued for that sort of thing? TV Shows have been taking the piss out of Christianity for decades without any real retaliation.
That would be because Christianity as a whole isn't one cohesive organization, and generally hasn't sued for defamation in the past.

Scientology operates more like a business, and does sue and offer up cease and desists all the time. They also pull all defamatory youtube videos about them as well. That isn't to say that they actually -win- most of their stuff though.

But yeah, that scientology South Park episode? Comedy Central wont play it anymore because of the legal issues it caused.

Scientology is infamous for suing ANYONE that badmouths them.

Christianity tends to be so divided by interpretation that there isn't enough "umpf" whenever people mock them.

What is wrong with scientologists? the second anyone questions them, BAM...lawsuit. if someone openly discusses the fact that their religion is based on a fictional book, BAM...a horrible secret/rumour is made up about you. if people realise that scientology is a scam BAM...Overlord Xanu will come back and drop more thetans and hydrogen bombs on you. What a Joke!

"that people make they encounter"

OP typo.

Of all religions of similar or larger size scientology is probably one of the more harmless ones. Sure, they swindle people out of their money, but they don't seem prone to violence unlike some other, larger cults. Also I'm sure it's a really useful organization for rich people since donations aren't taxed, and they can use the church as a bank of sorts.

Sure, their believes are silly, but let's say scientology survives a few hundred years (maybe less). Once the book is old enough all the silly bits will be reinterpreted as 'imagery, meant to be interpreted' and questioning the actual content of the book will be met with ridicule. Similar to for example the bible today.

Still, if being religious helps relieve stress brought on by insecurities I don't really mind. No reason to be terribly unhappy if it can be avoided that easily.
Hey if that was the case I would have no problem but since I experienced fair gaming from a whole bunch of them in a job I had a couple of years ago, I would advise you to look up the concept of "Fair Gaming" before passing them off as just another benign cult. And also look at their stance on mental health while your at it.
