It's another series that Tumblr has gotten their hands on and declared theirs and no one elses. Just like what they did with Undertale and Steven Universe.SweetShark said:Why? Is Homestuck bad?RedRockRun said:I'm so tired of hearing about this game. -long drawn out sigh- Please pleeeeeaaaase just go away! Go back to reading Homestuck or something. Just stop talking about how Undertale is the pinnacle of Western Civilization.
I had plans to read it.
And yes, I know it is about Alien Trolls or something, but it must be a reason why even Namco had them in a game.
As long I won't talk about them in Forums, I am alright then.RaikuFA said:It's another series that Tumblr has gotten their hands on and declared theirs and no one elses. A very good idea that would made the whole contest more meaningful is the winner would be drawn by a well-known artist or something similar.DoPo said:The answer to all of these is "No". What's annoying in this case, however, is that GameFAQs themselves never claimed it did matter, the contests have been historically meant to be ultimately insignificant. And this has not even been a secret.Vigormortis said:Even if it was real, would it matter? It's an opinion poll on the internet. When have those EVER mattered? When have they EVER been accurate representations of anything?DoPo said:As a side note, it's kind of interesting how in this thread people discussing the competition are actually calling it something different and thus distorting the meaning. The competition is not about the "greatest game of all time". That implies a level of seriousness that the original title "Best. Game. Ever." does not.
It is, once again, something for fun. Moreover, the very description of the contest dispells any notion that this is in supposed to be "like all real, guyz! For realzies"
http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/bge20The actual description of the actual contest said:don't forget: This is not a contest to see which game is your favorite, or even which one is the best rated. It's all a big popularity contest, and visitors who have never visited GameFAQs before will be sure to stop in and vote.
So, should have Undertale won? Is it, like, the bestest game? Umm, yeah, that poll is entirely the wrong thing to look at for answers.
Yet, now this one apparently matters. Now, this one has retroactively been made to count as something significant. Now this one is somehow an accurate representation of...something.
Now this one is apparently divorsed from any context and instead it exist as some sort of fever dream conjured up from the minds of people who "don't know shit about ass"[footnote]to borrow a phrase that another poster eloquently used[/footnote]. And those fever dreams get heavily painted with whatever view[footnote]that is in fact completely irrelevant to even the imagined contest, much less the actual one[/footnote] that person decides to inject into it.
It's a mockery of the entire tradition. It's random people taking something that doesn't or shouldn't concern them, bastardizing the concept to its antithesis, then go on to paint it even blacker.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. The contest is to have fun for a while. And we are supposed to do that. Then, indeed, move on.SweetShark said:Now...the whole thing is just a thing to have fun for a small moment. I enjoy it, but now we musr move on.
Yeah, it's almost as if the contest cannot be taken seriously as a concept by its very nature. Almost as if it wasn't even meant to. Almost as if the flaw there should be really obvious. Yet, there it is, almost as if it wasn't expect anybody taking it seriously.Floppertje said:What is it with people's need to always have to rank things? Especially when it comes to something as broad as games where we can hardly even nail down what the definition of a game is, how are we all supposed to decide which one is best? Surely games appeal to different people on different levels, you don't play an RTS for the same reason you play a walking simulator or a shooter, so can you even put them in the same list? And I suppose people play the same game for different reasons too. It's kind of like when someone asks me what my favorite song or band is. All I can answer is 'well... depends on my mood I guess'
I was talking about ranking things in general, not this one in particular. Or are you saying that all ranking contests are not meant to be taken seriously?DoPo said:Yeah, it's almost as if the contest cannot be taken seriously as a concept by its very nature. And you sound almost as if you did.
