Steam probably doesn't feel the game is worth even the potential of controversy or trouble considering that it sounds like a piece of shit anyway.

Oh hey, Killing Floor (favorite game of mine), you aren't just gore porn disguised as a game right? Have anyone of us actually played a demo of said game to find out whether it is good or not? No. Why? Because the very project that asks the fans/members if said game was any good was pulled before said fans/members could say if the game was good or bad. See how that situation is kind of odd?
Honestly I don't. If a developer wanted to make a profit on this game, there are plenty of other sites and services they could use to support them. Different companies have different standards, and if one company does not agree with a product's content, they have the right to drop it.

Negatempest said:
I would rather have the game pulled because the people that played the game found nothing interesting in it at all, than it being pulled by Steam themselves because it goes against how society sees sex right now.
Again, it's up to Steam's Terms of Service. Society doesn't have much to do with it.

The game is directed/created by a woman. Has anyone here actually EVER read a romance book written by women? They are racy, sure. But they have great tension, atmosphere, and character interaction that builds up to the moment of sexual intercourse. It makes the moments very erotic before any nudity is actually described. That writing in a erotic game that they plan to release on Steam itself already tells me there is a chance they were taking the game seriously. I would of LOVED to play such a game.
You freaking asked for it.

It's not always prudishness that separates sex from other things.

I'm not one of those people who thinks sex is evil or whatever, I just think it's something that almost never needs to be shown.

Whether I'm playing a game, reading a book, or watching a movie, I don't want to see any characters do anything sexual at all.

None of it. None of it belongs in any medium. There's virtually no story that can't be told without sex being on display, it's usually just fanservice.

(Now, if it's a story about somebody overcoming their racism or hatred of a person and they finally work their way around to having sex with them, then fine, that's relevant to the story. But I still don't need to hear the moaning and see the tits flopping around and sweat dripping. I simply do not care to see that kind of thing unless I want to see ONLY that kind of thing.)

But when I'm watching a movie about secret agents infiltrating a museum to steal treasure, or a movie about aliens creating a genocidal apocalypse, I don't need to see people having sex. It adds NOTHING to the story and it just pisses me off.

---

It's the same thing, to me, as if every movie or a lot of video games had to have at least ONE scene where the main character is taking a shit. Just extend the viewing time 10 minutes to show all of the grunts and farts going along with the shitting, then showing then wipe and wash up.

That's what sex in media feels like to me. Totally unnecessary.
Anyway, somebody tried to get a porn sim onto steam and had a tantrum. More power to them, let's continue to ignore them.

I wasn't even aware these games were popular. I really haven't heard of anyone possibly being interested in this stuff.

Anyway, what I find really stupid is how much people are shocked that society finds "Sex = Bad; Violence = Ok".

Strictly-Violent content really doesn't have much of an affect on you, at all. Strictly-sexual content, on the other hand will affect you, no matter how much of an iron will you think you have. That's just how people's brains are wired. People are wired to desire sex. We aren't wired to want to go killing Grey Russian Zombies from Outer Space.

You can play Serious Sam, Hitman, Doom, Manhunt, Duty Calls, or whatever ultra-violent game you want, and you will not turn into a murderous psychopath, unless you already had mental deficiencies to begin with. But looking at pornography? That will affect you. It's just a fact of human wiring.

In short, there is nothing wrong with games being ultra-violent. They do not cause problems. Intensely-sexual content does, simply because of how the human brain is wired.

Sounds smart to me, the backlash from that games company would be nothing compared to how any slightly unknowing parent group might react.

I dont know the quality of the game, so I cant comment on that, but the ignorance, and indeed Prudish and skewed American values running in this thread are sickening (Im an american too).

First, its like some people have no clue what Porn even is. For all the children, Porn is considered explicit sexual content, ie Bits and bobs interacting. Thats it. If Seducing women where porn half a dozen teen comedies (and PG 13 movies) and such would never see the light of day in movie theaters.

Second, Leisure Suit Larry games are about seducing women as well, yet I see no one ignorantly whining those are porn games. (They did in the past however) It still got sold in stores.

Thirdly, everyone ragging on this game is a flaming hypocrite if it ends up being this game does not have explicit sex and you can find worst content in the Witcher and Mass Effect.

It sounds like total fox news BS when people say the Witcher is fine because it has game play then they rag on this game despite the Witcher probably having more pornographic content. By that definition steam should start selling those Japanease games that involve legitimate game play and story lines yet graphic sexual content all through. Yet, I know people will come up with some dumb, flimsy excuses why those are porn despite living up to the definition they apply to The Witcher and the like.

Indeed, American culture has its head shoved so far up its... Dont even get me started on how explict gore and violence is fine and "good ole American fun". I expect to see a real life tv show like Murderbrawl on TV long before they ever allow porn on tv.

Very nice post. sad it completely missed the point. The game is porn because it HAS explicit sexual content in it. Its not softcore, where you can hardly see some breasts if your lucky.
Not it's just explicit sexual content and therefore porn.
You wanna know how i know that?
Because, unlike you, i actually looked at the game before commenting on it. It's not hard to find screenshots.
Here i even do it for you.
http://beefjack.com/files/2012/09/SeduceMe_Pietra.jpg
Just for the record: The site i found this one censored this screenshot, you would see everything ingame.
Now please tell me again how The Witcher is so much worse.

How about, with the Witcher, its animated for starters, and the nudity is very life like? If thats porn, dont watch the popular HBO Series "Game of Thrones".

I did look at the games website, but I did not see scenes like that, still its more tame then you'll find in a Japanese game, but of course those are all porn too, to the prudish.

Im planning to buy it now as a big FU to the all the people who want to be the moral police and think games like that should not be sold and is more evil and immoral then murder sims. FYI Im a girl, one of those beings the moral police want to protect from exploitation such as this game supposedly is, I applaud the woman making this game, and shake my head at all the male Feminists that are anti artistic expression.

If you think game of thrones and the witcher are worse then thats your opinion. I most certainly don't think so, but it's pointless and stupid to argue with someone about their sight on things.
Btw. nobody here said the game should not be sold. The "moral police" just does not think that steam did a horrible, evil thing by not allowing this game, which violates their terms of service, on their platform.
And i am no american, btw., and i have nothing against porn and naked people, in the contrary. I just don't think steam should be blamed for enforcing their terms of service.
And i don't see what you being a girl has do to with anything here. People just said this game contained explicit sexual content, therefore violates steams terms of service, and therefore does not belong on steam. I have not seen one person complaining about the game being sexist or something.

Pfft. I've read romance novels LONG before 50 shades of grey came out. Using "that" book as an example of a romance novel is like using Twilight as an example of a good vampire movie.

They'll still release the game, but steam is what really brings the money in.

Okay, so you are saying that an American Corporation, based in America, is not going to be effected by the values of the very country it lives in? Thus will not apply moral codes similar to the society it exists in to it's own rules and guidelines? So Japanese companies/corporations "are" effected by their society, but American ones are not? really? :p (You and I both know I don't need to link the MANY posts that say how Japanese society effects their games.)

Publicity is more important than money at this point, and No Reply is getting a heck of a lot of publicity out of this. You probably wouldn't buy the game before this news broke out.

If Japan is the birthplace of modern gaming, then all games are influenced by Japanese society. If that is the case, then by your logic you would suggest sex games should just be sold everywhere.

Except only specialty stores in Japan carry eroge games. You can't just walk into any game store and expect to find Cat Girl Alliance on the shelf. It is completely up to the owner to determine which games they want to carry, which is the exact same concept I have been talking about.

Hi.

I'm a male American gamer who doesn't play 1 Japanese date sim every year.
Now you've met one.

Unless you're trying to infer that all JRPG's are date sims, in which case you need to be smacked.

Birthplace? I'd say a strong influence, but not birthplace. :p

And now many specialty stores are there in the U.S. that supply games like those? "If" a store for erotic based games was too appear in the U.S. it would be chewed out just for existing. Porn Shops took years to even be allowed out in the open like they are today.

Now here's the thing. Green Light, the area where fans/members go to choose whether a game should be allowed to exist on Steam by the fans/members kicked a game out of the catalog before anyone BUT the developers actually saw any real "game". Everyone is saying it's a cheap flash game. But no one has actually "played" the game in any form other than the developers. What details were skimped out for the 1 minute video where it was nothing more than a teaser?

Yes, this commotion did let me know this game was coming into existence. But the fact that this game exists at all is what will get me to buy it. I am personally hoping that the game is like a good steamy romance novel than the stuff that appears in sites like Newgrounds. Nothing against the site, but most erotic flash games are pretty half-assed.

P.S. Most Eroge feature 18-ish year olds, not my thing by far. Now that these women look to be 25+ year olds is a huge sell for me. :p

Thats how it should be, and people wonder why america is so full of round too tight ignorant people with anger, alcohol and drug problems. Well of course thats the kind of person you'll get if you tell them natural things like nudity and sex is immoral and evil and shove violence down peoples throats and tell them its okay.

Yeah, We have Rated R movies and Rated M video games and it doesnt matter, its lip service, kids play mortal kombat all the time here, porn is the only thing they take seriously enough to enforce being strickly, over 18.

Im not going to say places like Europe and Japan are perfect but generally speaking you'll find alot more mature, well rounded individuals who live peaceful lives without requiring beer and stuff to get through the day.

Perhaps. But I really don't mind violence. People should know that games are just games. I even think Violence could be used in a game to show that killing people isn't 'omg that's so badass ! " and might even give a revolting feeling towards it. The M or R rated games here don't really matter (perhaps in a bigger store they do, I don't know).

While people might not be so uptight about nudity (and now that I think of it, violence neither) here in Belgium, people don't want them shoved in their faces everywhere they go and I agree with that. I don't think this game would sell well in Belgium. Not because of the sex, but because the game looks stupid.

And I thought men in Japan where kind of the most sexually frustrated people (correct me if I'm wrong). They might not drink beer to get through the day, but groping in trains is still a fact.

I also think tight ignorant people filled with anger, alcohol and drug problems can be found everywhere :p

Really? *Sigh*, okay check out "Get Rich or Die Gaming" and "Let's Get Fiscal". These 2 games are by far a worse half assed made game project than what I saw on that single video of Seduce Me.....and it's still in Project Green Light. Would it be so terrible to make an area in the site that is exclusive to well made mature/erotic content? No, that would be asking too much.
And no, they did not clearly violate the term of service. When Valve has to specify now that such horrendous content like a game's strong point is consensual sex is not acceptable.

Apparently it is too much to ask, people are so messed up on the whole in the US that natural things like this, they dont want to even know exists, while unnatural things like murder they consume regularly. Even some of these soccer moms would rather see their kids playing some good, ole American fun in mortal Kombat then something like this.

I agree though, compared to some of the other crap on Greenlight that looks worse then Seduce Me, this game gets panned as crappy looking. Its more like people projecting their own shame at their sexuality on this product then its actual quality.

As for Japanese people, they arent repressed, this is the same nation that has vending machines on street corners selling used womens panties ;) Thats encouragement if I'd ever seen it.
