On one side, ZOMG. THE GULL. They dared to tackle issues that are somewhat feasable. Guess what? Terrorists arent going to try and just kill white men in the military who signed up, knowing full well, what will happen. Terrorism is ugly, it targets everyone, and everyone is a victim. Yes, kids die. And I don't think its that terrible to show that in Videogames - it happens. Was anyone offended by Dead Islands trailer?

On the second side... Infinity Ward is just trying to make the news.

Modern Warfare 2 sold a shit load of copies. I can guarentee you the No Russian mission had something to do with it. If you can make something that makes Fox News say "Lets make a big deal over it for a week", you just advertised your game, for free, to a bunch of people. Its a stunt. It will make news, and people will talk about it. It will sell copies. Infinity Ward knows this, which is why with each passing iteration they get more ballsy.

One had you hit by a nuke, and crawl around till you died. 2 had No Russian. 3 has a kid die. If they make a 4, it'll probably one up 3, and show something truely awful like a drug cartel raping someone or something completely off the wall. Its a way to get people to buy the product, and to ensure those early purchases from the maybe crowd. It kinda sucks thats the way it is, and that they're doing this just for publicity instead of telling a provoking story, but whatever.

Oh dear god! The humanity! A VIDEOGAME depicted TERRORISM as BAD! I think I'm going to faint.

But seriously, note that every "scandal" from the CoD series was when it stopped glorifying war. The nuke showed that no matter how tough a guy is, no matter how many men he can kill, no matter how powerful his wolverine style regenerating powers, in war he may die by chance. No Russian made the point that even the (I use this term with caution) "good guys" find themselves doing shameful things. This case seems merely to be a statement that overly muscled, fridge shaped WASPs with jars of jam strapped to their foreheads are not the only people susceptible to bombs.

Who is talking about this other than gaming sites? I've seen this topic three or four times on The Escapist, and in each thread several people jump on Fox News for their anti-game coverage of it. BUT, they haven't covered it. I doubt they will.

But what if Fox News DID cover this? Would they really be upset? It's playing into the "terrorists will kill you and your kids" mentality.

Just stop commenting on it, and it will go away.
