I call BS, Capcom just came out with this statement to make it look like an elaborate ruse to fool people into talking about a game. When did Capcom get marketing sence ?

I've never played DMC but even I think the new look is stupid. I highly doubt Capcom wanted the fans to get up in arms about it. I suspect they're trying to "brave face" it.

EDIT: Damnit! Ninja'd by Khaun. Well played sir.

What would be creative is overhauling the character while leaving key characteristics of him in place. To an extent, something like the difference between Super Mario Bros. Mario and Super Mario World Mario. Something that would say, this is actually the character we're telling you it is, not just some thing we drew. They say that the most creativity comes from working around your constraints.

However, what would be even more creative is having an original IP for once.

CAPCOM.
Yeh the best things come out of Constrants, you have to plan everything which leads to great ideas.

The game's trailer actually makes it seem worth playing for once. Screw that old japanese look, this is so much better.

I'm not surprised that part of the redesign was to stir indignation among the die-hard DMC fans.

I'm not entirely sold on the redesign since there doesn't seem to be any word on how different it is past cosmetic, but I personally kind of like that they tried something other than the typical "white haired pretty boy" (no offense).

EDIT: I just saw Upbeat Zombie's comment a little higher up and, now that I think about it, he could have a point: The white hair will probably show up sometime over the course of the game.

Planning to provoke fanboys? You don't need to do anything to provoke fanboys, this is more like saying you planned on the sun rising in the morning.

Capcom be trollin'...

Then again Infamous 2's Cole did get redesigned to look a bit more like the first's, so who knows, maybe if the fans yell enough, they'll get Capcom to make it look like the older Dante.
Or they'll take the completely logical route and have him look like DMC 3's Dante by the end of the game.

I honestly would picture Dante as a scrawny bitchy teenager and Capcom has done just that. It's an origin story. As long as he's back to being the Dante we know and love by the end of the game then I really don't see a reason to complain.

Bravo at Capcom for doing this. It certainly sparked my interest in the series once more.

I'm seeing that it's going to be like Shadow of the Colossus in that the character's appearance gradually changes from start to finish. In the trailer, there are scenes where Dante has odd patches of white in his otherwise dark hair, so I think a re-viewing of the traler can open this up to others too. His powers probably have an influence on this. I just hope the reboot means I don't have to stare at a chapter load screen every five minutes.

Well it better change him from looking like a bloody meth addict itching for his next fix into the half daemon/half human smartass we all love so much.

Ok then, they can fuck off, cut themselves and not have my hard earned money. Seriously, new Dante looks like a whiny ***** or a heroine addict. For us to show that we want the old Dante is to not buy the new one.

Ugh, I was afraid of this. After a few discussions, I proposed that this might be part of the marketing by Capcom. I'm sad to be proven right, because while people are talking about it, it's overwhelmingly negative, so I'm thinking the widespread coverage spreading a negative view will at best be a wash, and at worst, backfire. Of course, "unbiased" news sources could tip the balance in Capcom's favor. I hope there are at least some repercussions, to teach Capcom that the owning the world is worthless if you forfeit your soul.

So it's a marketing stunt? I'm sure the fans will love to hear that.

They're right on one thing though. It's not just another Devil May Cry game. It's now a Devil May Cry game where the protaganist looks fucking stupid.
