I still don't get what all the commotion is about. He still dresses like a gimp and his hair's a different colour. The game still looks like a pile of demon killing goodness, god you fanboys are petty.

as i said before "ninja theory..SUCK IT!"

guys don't buy into the whole "zomg we planned this from the start haha". this is a kids way of comping with defeat in a game by trying to make the enemy feel bad and stupid for winning.this is capcom/ninja theory's way of saying this is bad and they'll use any trick possible to get us to buy this game.

also ninja theory is a bad game designer, and they specifically said they're more interested in making cutscenes than gameplay, and the gameplay itself is slow, butchy and boring.

they're making a shitty game, label it using a famous brand to get people to buy it, then say to the angry fans that it's a "re-imagining" to try to pass that shit as a part of a much better franchise. aka what hollywood is doing right now.

don't buy their game, it's what hurts them the most.

Eh, I never really got what the big deal was...well, okay, maybe the fact that Dante now looks more like THIS-

http://www.werdyo.com/photos/2009/11/morrigan-dragon-age.jpg

than he does the old Dante could upset the fans, but I personally couldn't give a rats ass. hey, maybe they'll get Claudia Black to do New-Dante's voicework, too! Tell me you guys wouldn't love that.

So they wanted us to hate the new character ? This kind of reminds me of another game that tried to "provoke" the players....

Just admit defeat Capcom. You won't win.

I'll admit the white haired pretty boy thing was old but you don't go from that to meth addict. Maybe we find out that dante's origin is that of a meth addict though...

Irregardless, I don't think making the character look like an unappealing horse's ass should be the first thing you think of to generate interest for a game. It should be y'know. Changing up gameplay mechanics or something that will actually affect the "game" and not just how it looks.
Pretty much everything was ever going to say about the DMC reboot, ever.

John Romero would be proud of that comeback, and showing the new character design is not the best way to kick things off.

Why did capcom do this? I bought every dmc game because it was another devil may cry. I would have bought this one too. But now I'm not sure if I should do that.

Capcom be trollin'...

Then again Infamous 2's Cole did get redesigned to look a bit more like the first's, so who knows, maybe if the fans yell enough, they'll get Capcom to make it look like the older Dante.
Dude, they said they won't be. They did this on purpose to piss everyone off and get a rise so they would talk about it. Complaining will only be adding fuel to the fire they WANTED to make. At the end they even say there might be a change near the end, since it is an origin story.

I guess I can understand that. I'll probably pick up this game to support the fact that they are trying something new. I just hope they change that stupid name. and wait wasn't devil may cry 3 a prequel?

When I heard a DMC had been coming out I was running around in circles screaming "OHMIGODOHMIGODOHMIGOD!" and getting all giggly like a school girl.

Then I saw the video..and went to:

So even if they hadn't made Dante like every other protagonist out there (emo looking, angsty, by the looks of it anti social) I would have talked about it. I would have talked about it more. I would be talking with my mates about how AWESOME it looked...now I shake my head and change the subject. So on my part..their plan failed. FAILED. Made a die hard DMC fan rent DMC5 instead of buying it right off the bat. YES you heard me rent...I want to see what kind of emo douchebag they made him.

You know, a prequel to a prequel DOES work at times. Just Google "Tolkien book chronology", and you'll find that a lot of the books were made with that in mind.

OT: Personally, having hardly played the DMC series at all, I can look at this without the Crimson specs of old Dante nostalgia. Sure, this is pretty much a dick move, but look at many other times in gaming. Daikatana, Twisted Metal (at the E3 showing), and Square-Enix's Lord of Vermillion II (if people recall, the teaser splash page of that only had "VII" on it). Capcom definitely isn't the first one to pull a stunt like this, and they sure as hell won't be the last. It's been a marketing technique that's worked before, works now, and will work in the future, whether we want it to or not.

I call bullshit! Classic troll mentality "I look like a fucking idiot... wait, why dont I say thats what I meant to do?!". I do not accept their explanation, treating them the same way I treat any person that tries to backpeddle after doing something stupid.

What would be creative is overhauling the character while leaving key characteristics of him in place. To an extent, something like the difference between Super Mario Bros. Mario and Super Mario World Mario. Something that would say, this is actually the character we're telling you it is, not just some thing we drew. They say that the most creativity comes from working around your constraints.

However, what would be even more creative is having an original IP for once.

CAPCOM.

Does this count?
Admittedly I don't follow that closely, but that's the first original IP I've heard from Capcom in quite a while. It looks outrageous! If the entire game is like that it could be to God of War type games what Serious Sam is to FPS's, or what God Hand is to beat-em-ups, or Disgaea to JRPGS: ridiculously over the top, not taking itself too seriously, and just plain fun. If so, good job Capcom!

I don't know if i want to say this at this point, but eh, what the hell.

I actually kinda prefer the NEW Dante... at least from what I've seen of him in the trailer. I cant really say why, but the old Dante never endeared himself to me... Not to say the new has completely done so yet, but I am willing to give him a chance that the old one has kinda not wholly taken up.

Let the Flaming of my blasphemy commence!

Oh, yes..."exciting."

Now, not only does "Devil May Cry" sound like the title of a Fallout Boy song, Dante looks like a member of the damn band.
