It's the same game just a different character model. I'm sure everyone will adjust and accept the new Dante out of necessity.

It doesn't really bother me that Capcom is making excuses for upsetting their fanbase. What bothers me is that they redesigned a very original, badass character into a boring, cliche, 'everyone does it' whino.

Take old Dante and you can't really compare him to other well-known characters.

Take new Neo, er, Dante and you can compare him to every other well-known character out there.

If only they would have made him fat with greasy hair and pimples then people could welcome a truly original design, but then it would have been far too liked.

I love this whole scene they have created and if their marketing idea is factual they won. Either way I found DMC to be far too pristine and Gackt-tastic for my taste and like the direct they are moving in.
I actually like the design. I actually want to play the game now. I would rather be a filthy, lame, emo kid than a saucy pretty boy because I like the dichotomy between someone who seems downtrodden kicking ass. The old Dante fit the showing "I'm so bad-ass" role too well and it was stagnant.

TL;DR version:
I like this new Dante because he isn't a fat nerd[sic: something actually original] or a showy white haired cock-tease.

Pesonally I'm glad they changed him.

In the first DMC he was a cold serious fighter with a bad past and felt really cool to play.

In DMC 2 they kept the character going and made another great game......

Then DMC 3 came along and portrayed him as some cocky little shit who seemed to transfer his seriousness into his brother Virgil.
Really?

Dante changed drastically from DMC to DMC2. He became quiet, he made decisions with a double head coin and they changed his jacket to a sort of vest and tails combo.

DMC and DMC3 Dante are much similar, he was supposed to be cocky in 3 because that's what all the fans loved about him and the fact that he wasn't cocky in DMC2 was a main criticism.

DMC3 is often regarded as the best game. It kept the well known Dante with increased over the top moments and combined it with a refined combat system that introduced the combat styles allowing people to play as they wished.

DMC2 is also generally regarded as the worst DMC game.
Well then this obviously comes down simply to my own personal opinion of the guy and that I disagree with the majority of the fanj base for Dante.

.....Fight the power!!

Yeah I'm all one for opinion. I just wanted to correct you on the similarities between DMC and DMC3.

You're fully entitled to like DMC2 ^_^ Though the only good bit for me was using cheat codes to turn Lucia into Trish.

To tell the truth I only really liked that DMC because I think Dante's Devil trigger and Devil form were the best looking in that game.

I don't remember all of the devil trigger forms but I know I fairly disliked DMC2s...

I'm not sure of a favourite.

Genius. Good going, Capcom. You basically just convinced me, what with your wonderful consideration towards the DMC fans who dislike this change, not to buy your merry little prequel. But hey... look at it this way; you DID get me to come on here and talk about the game, so I guess you... win?

I don't think they are outright lying, I believe they wanted to generate "buzz." I do not believe, however, that they intended to open a portal to hell and unleash the vitriolic hate of a thousand tortured souls, much less commit the even greater offense of pissing off the fans.
