Nothing except for all games you have bought using Origin?cursedseishi said:Nothing is being stolen, people are hosting their own servers during the beta, and its allowing for these huge 100+ player matches and EA isn't liking that.lordlillen said:isnt that stealing? if there taking away the games then its stealing.
That's probably the biggest reason (even bigger than Origin and my lack of a console) for why I'm going to spend all my Battlefield time I ever end up spending with Bad Company 2. Or just standard BF2 if that's better.Kalezian said:A while back, wasn't there an article about how the PC version of Battlefield 3 would have a sort of matchmaking system, and the console version would be the ones with server browsers?
Agreed. I didn't actually think of it that way, but that's definitely another point against random server selection and PC Battlefield 3 (even though the PC is supposed to be Battlefield's core demographic...clearly DICE think that, but EA would rather go directly head-to-head with Modern Warfare and inevitably fail.)Yopaz said:This makes me wonder what the fuck they are thinking. There's no way of choosing where you end up, if that server has been modded how can you tell without seeing the server list? How can you get on an official server if you can't pick which one to use? First taking away ability to pick your server, then banning people for playing on the wrong server. This is probably the dumbest thing I've seen out of EA/DICE.
I think you just made my day. And gave me a reason to prefer all those older games, which will probably also become taboo once our new gaming overlords come into their own rather than just hiding in shadows installing DRM.internetzealot1 said:The future of gaming, people. dunno if anyone quoted you or not but by mods they most likely mean like... and mod that adds this this and that changes that adds 100 players to a match things like thatssgt splatter said:snip
It's hard to define, but it seems like the general consensus is that it's okay to mod as long as the things you get from modding don't carry over into other matches. For example, you can make a CoD map where everyone has jetpacks and unlimited ammo, but playing on that won't give you any advantage on a normal server. Compare that to something like WoW, where your character getting a +5 Sword of Stabbity will affect how you play in normal gameplay. (Yes, I know that you can unlock stuff faster in modded CoD maps, but it's incredibly easy to do that through normal play so it doesn't really count)ssgt splatter said:Wow. People are already modding servers? Then again, I guess I shouldn't be suprised as there are people who have nothing better to do than mod severs and cheat.

Or are you allowed to mod games after they come out?

Ok, now I just made myself confused. When is it ok to mod games and when is it not ok? I've seen mods for CoD 4, Left 4 Dead, Dead Island alnog with many others but...I...help, my brain is melting due to the confusion of this issue.
Hmm... I wonder why that is.Soviet Heavy said:Oh you. You're like a newer, 'impier' version of HankMan before he got banned.Ser Imp said:Is DICE not even allowing a saving throw?
I think you need it for the full game too.vrbtny said:Yes, that's really gonna scare a lot of people. /sarcasmAndy Chalk said:DICE has warned that Battlefield 3 players who play on unofficial servers could end up having their Origin accounts banned and losing all the games attached to it as a result.
Most people only use Origin because it is a necessity for the Battlefield 3 beta.
But nowadays every company feels that you don't pay for a physical/digital copy, you are only renting "rights" to play the game.lordlillen said:isnt that stealing? if there taking away the games then its stealing.
