There don't seem to be more than about 23000 nukes in the world today.
That's today. At the height of the Cold War, there were over 55,000. Then there were Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT) during the '70s and '80s which greatly reduced the US/USSR stockpile, followed by the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990.

None of this happened in the Fallout Universe. For that matter, because the big boogeyman in Fallout is China, we never hear about what the Soviets were doing.
55,000 at the height of the cold war....

considering only 2 a-bombs were ever used in a battle.. and those sort of shocked the world into saying "holy shit!" and every time anyone even tests a nuke they have to warn the whole world that they're going to do it well ahead of time... it does seem a little excessive, lol

I wonder how many nukes it would take to literally break the world in half... like if you dug down deep enough and just planted nukes down there, how many would it take to actually split the world in two? I would imagine it wouldn't take 55,000

Europe? Would be weird if Europe got hit.
Not if America and china had miltary bases there

Do you know the halflife of plutonium? I mean neither do I but you should check that out if you want to make cliams like that.

according to wikipedia, depending on the isotope of plutonium it ranges from 84 years (238pu) to 8,080,000 years (244pu).

If it's the 84 year halflife isotope, most of the radiation present in fallout would dissipate in about 200 years. *shrug*

Australia probably is fine. I mean, unless they got involved somehow, they're pretty out of the way I guess.

Even if no nukes hit, radiation would have definitely hit everywhere.
The radioactive cloud from Chernobyl affected a lot of Europe and that was just a reactor, not a purpose built bomb.

At least a bomb kills you on sight, without making you have to go through radiation poisoning...

that's pretty much why the game is called Fallout. Fallout is really the killer in a nuclear explosion, and it can effect areas of hundreds of miles outside the actual blast radius, depending on the winds.

Denmark would be overlooked for the same reason that fruit flies can survive in the microwave oven :p

Well pretty much nothing got spared from at least one nuke so no, as for the whole scheme the entire world is still going to be f-ed up the butt by radiation, so even if say Australia wasn't hit by a nuke it'd still have gotten owned by the radiation.

To put in real world perspective, if the Cold War Nukes were launched pretty much only Russia and America would have been hit by the Nuclear bombs but both countries had enough stockpiled to make the Northern and most of the Southern hemisphere uninhabitable for centuries.

Yeah ok I see your point, but remember that Both countries wanted to fuck each other up as much as possible so they'd probably try to get the long lasting isotope

If China is the Big Boogeyman, the US will probably have had a base or more around Australia.

The Fallout franchise is about Americas view of the futures based on upcoming cold war threats and Science Fiction technology. I don't think it'll ever be set anywhere but America.

It's established that MOST of the world was hit by the nukes.

Switzerland, maybe?

They're neutral, and I've heard (albeit not very reliably, might wanna consider that) that they already have underground vaults IRL, so... aside from a demolished landscape, the country itself might be getting by okay.

Ever single evidence that I recal of actuall nukes existance in Fallout is the Megaton city. Which actually had something that looked like old-school big bomb, everything else is just a constant bla-bla-bla about nukes and bombs and no other evidence except SOME irradiated areas. Power of nuke in enermous amount of energy releised in a metter of seconds - explosion itself, not a resulting fallout. But in game we only see irradiated places and mutated environment, no evidences of actuall explosions.

Chernobyl, its in Ukraine, just 100 km from capital - Kiev. It's not comparible to nukes, nukes leave much smaller fallout.
