Notice how these are UK sales records? As in, the test region for bumping up the price to see how it affects sales? I'm sure this will have a good impact on our wallets...

What actually happened in the UK is that the major retailers SLASHED prices, Sainsburys releasing the game at £26 as opposed to the suggested £55, then Morrisons followed suit and other retailers such as Amazon and Asda knocked it down to £32. Sainsburys released the game at the price of a budget title and cheaper then the current RRP for the first Modern Warfare, it was more like the cost of a couple of DVDs then a video game and as a result everyone FLEW in and took it at the lower retail before the prices go back up to the £45 - £55 mark.

I wasn't going to buy it until it became cheaper or hold out for christmas but at £26....... thats soooo cheap, on average UK wage thats like 2 - 4 hours work.

That number will definately rise. MW2 is going to be released in Japan thanks to Square-Enix.

If MW2's success in the UK wasn't a strange localized phenomenon where the British went batsh*t crazy over a game starring Brits who weren't A.) fantasy heroes or B.) officers of the Galactic Empire
...Don't discount that possibility. You also missed "the bad guy" from that list.

Also, Sainsbury's slashing prices means that even I got it, and I was waiting out to get it preowned on principle. My roommate stayed up all night to get it at 7am for his 360. We like Sainsbury's in this house at the moment.

I could write a dozen pages over how disappointing this is. The games store I work at is a small independent outlet, and we almost never sell more than 8 or 9 copies of anything new. We sold 56 copies of MW2, but 8 Hardened Editions, Plus 5 Prestige Editions, Plus another 12 copies on the PS3, (We don't do PC).

Why? How? It's completely impossible to understand. We can all joke about how we all saw it coming, but we didn't. Not really. We knew the fans would buy the hype a little bit, we expected millions of sales. But the best selling game ever by a wide margin! Based on WHAT!

It looks the same as last time. It plays the same as last time. New perks? Death Streaks? They're little more than DLC. Don't tell me anyone bought it for the lousy 6 hours SP campaign?v And don't get me started on the level designs, which are as bland and uninteresting
as ever. I played this a for a few hours with my friends, but I'm glad it was their copy, not mine.

WOW, the greatest selling game ever.

Unfortunatly, I can't play the f*cking thing online. What the hell is up with that Infinity Ward?
I feel you, brother. Would have been awesome if my PS3 purchase included online that I could... y'know... actually play.

12 million? Really. Wow. All I can say - ridiculous. But... whatever. I'll just show my support to good developers instead.

And now Infinity Ward will not learn their lesson and continue to screw over the public...

You guys need to realize that CoD is all about the multiplayer. Who cares if the campaign is short? I haven't even played the single player yet. All that matters to me is that I was playing CoD4 regularly up until about 2 days ago. I've been loving every minute of MW2, which is basically CoD4 but with way more ability to customize buildouts, and with a new multiplayer co-op component. I have absolutely no reservation with paying 50 bucks for that. As far as the message that we're sending to the gaming industry, it seems to be: if you make an awesome game, with multiplayer that offers hundreds of hours of replay value, a lot of people will buy it. I'm okay with that.

BTW, I game on PC, PS3, and 360. I bought MW2 on 360 because I prefer the ease of use for Xbox Live. I know that all the PC gamers will look down their nose at me because of this, but frankly I don't care. Have fun boycotting every game that doesn't give you exactly what you want, I guess.

Good job, Activision. Your faith in the homo oeconomicus has proven successful yet again. Fuck quality, it's all about profit.

I'm sure the PS3 gamers who can't access their online are thrilled to hear that.

Yeah, well, that's part of the PS3 experience unfortunately. It's a large part of why I bought MW2 for 360 even though I own a PS3 too. It's also why I don't raise holy hell over the yearly subscription fees for XBox Live: because it's worth it.

Well if you're going to boast about the Xbox 360...I don't pay for any extra subscription fees for gaming on the PC and guess what? It's NEVER down. If the server I like is off for maintenance I just find another.

That said, these sales figures don't surprise me too much. I'll admit I'm a little happy to see the relatively low percentage of PC sales. Hold your ground brothers!

The neighborhood of gaming companies who believe in quality and community feedback rather than profit. But I guess you could argue that boat sailed back when Halo 3 came out. This just snapped the anchor line.
Whut? Where does Halo 3 come into this?

I think we've been trolled, men!

Anyway, gotta love how whenever sequels come up now, people say "It should have been DLC!" Yeahno. That complaint was lousy back when people applied it to L4D2.

Games with dedicated servers have also been hacked, so in reality the only difference is how well the games are monitored. There's probably some way to report hacking: if there isn't, well, THEN I'll get upset. Until then though, I take this news as being... non-news, and more like a statement about how fast hackers work.
