At long last, the build map.

BUILDS 1907

Turkey: Build A Con
France: Build F Bre and A Par
Germany: Build A Mun
Austria: Disband F Naf and A Boh

It is now Spring 1908. Next orders are due on Thursday. An exception will be made if Saskwach can't get online in that time, though I devoutly hope that he'll be able to.

See ya then.

Well, it's Thursday, and I have recieved exactly zero sets of orders. Since I see little point in declaring every player to be in civil unrest, I'll give you more time. Use it wisely.

Until then, you may return to your negotiating.

Now that BoV has chimed in, we have the new map.

I'm going to try to get things back to their usual speed now. We've got what, four people still in the game? Surely it can't take that long for such a small group of people to get orders in to me? Right?

Next orders are due on Sunday. It is now Fall 1908.

Well, I've almost got everybody's orders, and I'll probably have a map to put up tomorrow, but (you knew there was a "but") it seems that my main computer has died. As in, we think the motherboard is fried, but we're not sure.

Until that gets fixed, things might be a little...erratic. Hopefully I can have the map up tomorrow though.

This turn we also must say a sad farewell to another great power. Shanks, you did really well for the first half of the game, and then your luck turned down a dark alley and got mugged. You get a twenty-one gun salute and an exile to a tropical island of your choice.

Since you now control no supply centers, I took the liberty of disbanding your retreating unit without waiting for orders from you.

This is how things stand at the end of Fall 1908.

Germany has lost supply centers and must disband 1 unit.
Turkey has gained supply centers and may build 2 units.
France neither gained nor lost supply centers this turn.

Get your builds and disbandments to me soon and we can continue with the endgame in Spring 1909.

GG, Shanks - and if you don't like the look of any of those tropical islands I'd be happy to keep you as a political prisoner on Cyprus. You'd be well accommodated. Only the best for my most noble and vexing enemies.

Man, Guvnorium must be envious of the order in this thread, the World War 3 is a mess.
At least his hasn't taken months to build a war.
No offense to you Zemalac. You are running this very well, it was just a bit slow paced for my taste.
Oh, and yes, I have been watching this thread, the only reason I am posting in it now is to say this: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YEAAAAAAAAAH! SCREW YOU SHANKS, WHAT THE FUCK DID I SAY WOULD HAPPEN TO YOU, YEA! Sweet, Sweet, Retribution. Thank you karma, for punishing this man for all the atrocitys he committed while playing this game.

Betrayal isn't an atrocity in Diplomacy. The entire game is figuring out how best to backstab everyone else.

It has been a bit slow, though. Blame my computer problems and the holidays.

I know part of the game is betrayl, but you don't just backstab someone when they are getting backstabbed by everyone else.(Looking at you Saskwach, Logician)

I cannot think of a better time to backstab someone then when they're getting backstabbed by someone else at the same time. That's just on principle, though. In reality that's a hefty dose of bad luck.

I know. I'm just bitter because the fates(players) seemed to conspire against me.

Endgame? This particular tussle looks like it hasn't even started. There's going to be a great deal of arm-wrestling and back-and-forth on the main fronts from what I can tell; no side has an advantage or can be sure to keep all its current domain. I may not understand the definition of endgame, but this still seems firmly in the midgame to me.
In other news, I'm getting the itch for a post-game write-up, win or lose. Anyone who's been corresponding with me knows I can't shut up about this game, and I'm getting the itch to just let out all my thinking on the progressing tactical situation. It should be interesting for the other players to see how exactly this led to that. Since I'd also like to figure that out, anyone else who wants to write something up would have their work pored over by me.

So very poetic, the war builds from war, wrath begets wrath. In this alternate history it makes for a very different field for the first world war. One we shall not witness upon this forum but which will, without a doubt, be implied by what conflicts go unresolved even after the final orders are made. Such is the face of what could be the end of times. Such is the face of the old world, locked in it's throws of combat. These mounting tensions are but foreplay to the greater battle yet to come, simple bickering of what is the building blocks of the Great War. The combined forces of an Anglo-saxon empire (France) and it's Swarthy southern allies (Ottomans) crossing the dune make haste to settle the fight against the mighty German Forces. Yet it is all to clear to me now that such is not meant to be. There will be no true victory for any force or nation upon this battle ground. It will simply become the setup that it was destined to be, for these are not the battles or wars of ideas or religions or creeds. These are the scuffles of hungry nations and ambitious leaders out for the lands and blood of their foes. The armies circle about their enemies lands as vultures do the dying calf. Soon the descent of all those black wings, will fall upon the kill, and just as they are cursed to, will taste only the sickening bite of the carrion meat they believed they desired. Unable to smell or sense the reality of what it was from so high up above they are left with only the mistake they made and the consequences of the hideous unsatisfying taste in their mouth.

Yet, I still say, cry havoc and let slip those great vultures. Let the murder of the carrion birds fly to feast upon the unsuspecting world, all for the hope that it will show those ignorant dirt farmers and bureaucrats and soldiers the futility of conflict at the behest of the whims of Kings and tyrants. So that even though the loses will be tragic we might still be able to do away with forces far more tragic. Necessary as it is to remove such ancient and horrible systems as monarchy, hereditary rule, and divine right. Those who will not learn will be forced, to sit up and realize the pointlessness of living the way they do. They will fight no longer for the monarchs and corrupt governments that have grown so comfortable in their power. Rather the people of the old world will fight for their opportunities, their natural rights, and the ability to think for themselves. Whether with guns and force of arms or protest and peaceable ousting. Let them cage those birds once more and clip their wings so they might never fly again.
