Director Walks Away from Uncharted Movie

I have conflicting feelings about this. On the one hand, the Uncharted fan in me is glad that the director taking this adaptation so far away from the source material is gone. On the other hand, maybe a different plot is exactly what this movie needs. And I don't mean a re-imagining of Drake's Fortune but actually a whole different story and setting all together. There is an opportunity here to create a multimedia franchise with movies being an extension of the video games vice a recreation.

I'd be happy to see something like Chronicles of Riddick where you could have an Uncharted movie acting as a prequel to the Uncharted games... or even as a bridge between the games. I see lots of unique possibilities and opportunities with this.

Interesting plot changes. It seems David O'Russel didn't want the protagonist to be douchebag.
Did Sony and him split up because Sony wanted Drake to be a douche?

Who's Nathan Fillion? Seriously, I don't know who that is.
I know who Edgar Wright is, Hot Fuzz was awesome.

Anyway 1 less game adaptation movie to hate

Dear jesus. I don't know that the universe can contain that much awesome. It may end up creating an awesome singularity, killing us all.

In all seriousness, it's nice to see sony taking this seriously. Any director who can see Nathan Drake and think, "Ya know who I need? The guy who was so awesome in the Max Payne film!!!!11" needs to really not ever touch a game IP.

Honestly, ever single time EVER that a director has sat down and said, "Sure the game mythology is nice, but I have my VISION!!!!~" has utterly fucking ruined it. And it doesn't have to be that way. There have been good movies off of games. Prince of Persia, while not a direct port, was pretty damned close, and it was decent. Not fantastic, but decent. And consider Mortal Combat. The first one is a damned solid movie. Still one of my favorites 16 years later. Point being, while it is a SHORT list, there are several movies that have been done well. There's no reason not to make this one of them.

What is with movie directors? Do they think they're above a few games worth of continuity? This is really the only stage where the games as art thing bothers me, because at times like this is where it's quite apparent.

Russell basically said, "Yes, what you have there is nice, but what I see is a fan base who will see a movie based on the brand name you created, but will be seeing my movie, which is very different from the groundwork you have already laid. Sound good?"

It's asinine and pompous.

Actually Sam Rami to direct wouldn't be a horrible thing either.

O'russel is a REALLY good director, Its a shame this didn't work out.

You just WATCH this get handed to Paul W.S. Anderson or something...

Also I could care less if Fillion is involved. I smell a fan service stinker coming our way...

Two words. No. Wait, how many words was that?

Anyway, I'm alright with this. I think when it comes to adaptive movies, I like to see as little mocking about as possible. If you're going make too many changes, then why name it after an established franchise? (Yes yes I know the answer to that is money)

Okay, just reading the title of this I was expecting the first line of the post to go like this:

"Director Walks Away from Uncharted Movie"
As it explodes behind him in the distance.
You know... 'cause the visual....

The first person that pops to mind when I think of Drake is Nathan Fillion.
Why didn't they hire him?
Everyone likes him, and he's the most perfect fit for anything ever.

wright is a mostly comedic talent, i don't think he would be a good fit for uncharted as its a more serious title.
Yup, agreed. He's good with comedy, but I don't think he'd be as good with this type of film.

David O. Russell is a talented director, however he wasn't the right fit for this, however I doubt Sony will find a better director for this. I mean they got the writer of "The legend of Chun-Li" to write the Shadow of the colossus movie, Are you fucking kidding me ?!!
Wait a minute,

They're making a Shadow of The Colossus movie???

What the shit is that about? At least Uncharted had a story to work on, I mean I love SOTC but who wants to see a film where some teen kills 16 fuck-off-massive stone giants. (That sounded a lot worse in my head)
Yes read all about it here:

Us fans don't want Nathan Fillion, though. We want Nolan North. He already pretty much looks the part, and it's his random, unscripted quips that make Drake the character he is. Nathan Fillion can get lost on this one.

Well, that's what Sony does, remember? Just think back to the Spider-Man movies. Sony loves shitting on creativity in favor of what they think will sell.
