Called it. Knew that someone would take offence at the seeming increase in organisation of Anonymous. Sadly, the way he's going about it is simply an ego trip. We'll end up with opposing factions, and the spirit of Anonymous will be lost, and it'll just become another dull political group.

I have the perfect scene for the opening of this movie. A guy sitting at home and a lot of cars pull up to his house. All of the sudden 20 different pizza guys walk up to his door, to deliver a pizza he didn't order. The anonymous wars have begun.

Hmmm, well I have to wonder if this is really meaningful. To put things bluntly (as I have before) Anonymous has in the past made it pretty clear that they aren't the "hordes of /B/" and general masses of users, and not to confuse the two. I think the general abillity of anyone to post anonymously and claim to be a member of Anonymous has confused things substantially, and honestly I'm guessing that what we're seeing right now is a bunch of poseurs beating on each other, largely due to fear over the possible repercussions now that the authorities are publically involved.
If I had to guess at the motivations of "Ryan" it sounds like the actual issue is that he's scared, he basically set himself up as a leader as well, despite what he might say, and was playing Anonymous so much that when something major DID actually happen he's now afraid that by association he's going to get arrested when he really didn't do anything. He's thus offering up the addresses of a lot of other poseurs in order to hopefully buy himself clear, while playing the game of pretending he's acting for the good of the non-organization, when really he's defining "good" as, trying to cripple the most signifigant thing tied to Anonymous that there has been. I mean this goes beyond all the antics with Australia and similar things to a massive degree in the response it's getting and how much it effects people. We're actually seeing a display of power by Anonymous that is frightening and I think it's getting to a lot of the people who were playing at membership.
I'll be honest, saying "we won't attack someone" and concern about innocent users and collateral damage is not exactly the MO of an organization that touts itself as a force of pure chaos... a natural force of The Internet. That has lead me to believe that the guys saying "We're anonymous and we won't attack Sony and hurt the users", or going out of the way to specify that Anonymous isn't involved in the attacks, aren't REALLY Anonymous or speaking for the organization. I think it's a sign that the real Anons have sort of pulled away from the hordes of /B/ and Guy-Fawkes mask antics. Anonymous would never say "we aren't doing this" even if they weren't it would just maintain a silence on the matter and let people draw their own conclusions.
My opinion on this has waffled back and forth on this for a while, but this currently how I see things. As time goes on, this seems increasingly out of character, which makes me think that attention is being focused on the wrong guys.

AnonOps wasn't a hierarchy, it was a way to organize attacks. By exposing the identities of the people involved in these attacks, Ryan (which is not an Anonymous title) has betrayed the core principle of Anonymous.

As far as I know, every previous attempt has either been met with hearty laughter or caused a more cohesive and separate group to form. I don't follow this stuff as much as I used to, mostly because Encyclopedia Dramatica was taken down, but I was unaware AnonOps was a flagship-- actually now that I think about it, I think it was more of an annoyance-- so it might not be true, or it might not be as true as they say, and anyway you kind of can't gauge something like that what with most of the people being anonymous.Jonny49 said:

This, very much this, Anonymous doesn't have many principles, but predictably anonymity is one of them, putting your name out in public means you're not, or no longer, a part of that group by definition.
The part about democracy and some other parts indicate The Escapist's writers/editors/whoever are getting closer to understanding it though. To be clear, I'm not praising or exactly supporting Anon, I'm saying they should be understood for various reasons.
