On the one hand, you've got George Lucas, the man who has spent the last twenty years systematically destroying his own magnum opus. And on the other hand you have the single most bloated and evil corporation in the entire entertainment industry.
No, not because they brought us Hannah Montana. No, not because when mocked by Pixar they responded by BUYING Pixar. Not because of the way they treat their employees at the theme parks. Not because Lion King was totally a rip-off of Kimba the White Lion. Not because The Little Mermaid is a bland protagonist with no obvious motivation who sacrifices everything for a man she just met and learns nothing, and yet is held up as a positive role model for young women. It's not even because they actively persecute their own fans for the heinous crime of creating fan-art.
No, I have an objective reason for hating on Disney.
It's because they have repeatedly and single-handedly warped U.S. copyright law to prevent Mickey Mouse from passing into the Public Domain.
As a SIDE-EFFECT of this desperate manipulation of public policy, Public Domain in the United States is effectively frozen at the year 1923, and will remain this way for as long as Disney money and Disney lawyers are allowed to continue to manipulating Congress. It doesn't even matter that Disney hasn't made any money off of a Mickey Mouse cartoon in like 30 years. They're just hanging onto the copyright until the end of time because IP-hoarding is regarded as an indispensable part of their business model. If that holds back progress and harms American culture in the long run, so be it!
