Disturbing Films

Hey guys, me and my friend are looking for some disturbing films to review; any recommendations? The first film that we watched was August Underground's Mordum. We've got a Serbian Film and Audition lined up for review, and any more would be much appreciated.

I didn't watch it but you should try the human centipede.

Also the scorpion king 3, it's pretty nasty I stopped watching within the first 10 minutes.

Define disturbing...

Without a proper definition, I'll just start naming movies that I think are disturbing (from the movies you listed above, I doubt these are the kind of movies you're after but too bad! Ha haaaa!):

Hard Candy (not the best but interesting)
Full Metal Jacket (classic)
Falling Down (LOVED it)
Sucker Punch (get the director's cut; it's supposed to be much better)
American History X (felt like I received a sucker punch by the ending...what a great movie)

I've heard terrible terrible things about Salo, so that could be right up your alley. You've already got my first recommendation, A Serbian Film, lined up.

Define "disturbing". Disturbing could mean pure gore (like Saw), or "Why the fuck is this a thing?!", like The Human Centipede, or it could be emotional distaste/distress Like Requiem for a Dream, which is still a really good movie, just disturbing in its blunt portrayal.

I want to get a good variation; from psychologically disturbing to things like August Undergrounds Mordum, which is just a straight up gorn flick. I'd prefer to go a bit more obscure than Saw, however.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, I'm not looking for films that are necessarily enjoyable. August Underground's Mordum was a shitty, shitty movie, for example.

House of 1000 Corpses should fit there. I'd imagine it's slightly (but not by much) more obscure than Saw. It's made by Rob Zombie and it's about hour and a half of gore, if you need a summary. I think there is a sequel but I haven't seen it.

Underground - the serbian movie by Emir Kosturica. Not a gore flick. I suppose you could call it dusturbing - starts off with a war then it goes downhill.

Welp, you're a braver man/woman than I. I've read the plots of all the films mentioned (except for things like Requiem, which is disturbing in a whole different way) and I think I'm going to throw up.

I'm not much of a film buff, so I dunno how obscure this actually is but perhaps Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom is an example of what you're looking for?

Depending on your definition of disturbing, and your state of mind, altered by substances or sober?

Either way, if you've never seen "Donnie Darko" watch that movie, it's different, whether or not you consider it disturbing or not really depends on your own mental state...

For distress/mild gore I'd go for Sunshine

For flat out horrific gore/WTFOMGBBQ go for Isolation.

And everything in between: Stalingrad, Fargo, Eraserhead, The Machinist, Pandorum.

But if you want to really freak yourself out, watch Jesus Camp. I think I could topple Human Centipede.

A Serbian Film was kind of meh for me. I expected more. Audition, I didn't get the hype behind. It was a decent film, but wasn't disturbing to me.

Check out Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom. Most would find it fucked up, I've just desensitized myself to damn near anything.

Have you watched the other August Underground films? You could keep the trend going. Maybe check out some David Lynch classics like Eraserhead. Irreversible I've heard good things about, though I haven't gotten around to watching it personally.

Also, don't bother with either of the Human Centipede films. They are overhyped and don't nearly deliver.

I still hold a grudge against my friend for making me watch that.

I recommend The Woman for a disturbing film about an all American family capturing and "civilising" a feral woman.

Andy Warhol's "Dracula" *will* ruin your love of movies.
"In the Mouth of Madness" seems flat until you think about it.
"Brazil" raises the bar on what is truly horrifying.
"Videodrome" kinda dated w/ the interwebz n all, but still packs a punch.
"Bambi" Think about it.

I'd definitely say the Human Centipede then. It really is an incredibly disturbing piece of film.
