DmC is canon with the rest of the series. Wait, what?

In an interview with Eurogamer, Capcom representative Alex Jones stated that this takes place within the storyline of the original series. [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-09-22-dmc-devil-may-cry-interview]

I just don't know what to say. I've rage'd myself dry, and at this point, I'm just sad to see where the series is going. I was under the impression that this reboot was exactly that, a reboot, not a prequel, which it is. Apparently, it's only a reboot in the fiscal sense.

I don't get it. I don't see how this guy becomes Devil May Cry 3's Dante two to three years later. I just don't get it.

What are your thoughts on the matter? I'm assuming I'm not the only one who thought this was an alternate universe sort of arrangement.

These guys must have been paid in massive crack dollars to say this type of crap. This guy is not Dante and no one will convince me otherwise.

I really don't even know. All I know is that I won't be buying the game. The new Dante sickens me. Maybe if we all ignore this game it will go away?

I think that ill just haft to wait and see.
2-3 years is still a good amount of time for someone to change.
Hell, he could change completely by the end of the game.
Nothing we can do but wait and see.

I've never even played the Devil May Cry series, but this still causes me inexplicable rage...

I always liked Dante, and the new one pretty much is the epitome of everything I hate...

jeez, not again

see, it's simple, Dante is young and rebellious, like your everyday half demon half human teenager who is the child of pretty much Satan himself
he IS SUPPOSED to look different, okay?

also, this really is the problem with you north american gamers, you want your character from famous games as manly as possible, which fucks up the creativity of most developers

this shit also happened with MGS2, which got shat all over because of Raiden being physically feminine looking, you really have to open your mind (hard, considering your most played and famous games are based around hard-asses with so much manliness they can grow an extra pair of balls)

fun fact: my father is called Dante, so reading all this DmC redesing stuff is somewhat disturbing

A person can change a lot in 3 years especially with the right event(s). I say wait until you have more than a trailer, you should avoid writing games off. Looking forward to more info.

Seeing that Dante is supposed to be younger in somewhere in jail maybe all this is just supposed to set up the level where Dante, having escaped from jail and being chased by police in a national manhunt, has to get reconstructive facial surgery to get a new face (his traditional look) he also ditches the black coat and weapons for new ones to be 100% sure he ditched his pursuers.

...what?

WOO HOO!

Finally, a piece of good news. Now, we just need some actual gameplay footage, and I have a very good chance of being happy with this.

Thing is, the complaints aren't that he looks different from the usual action-hero. The complaint is that he looks different from himself. Aside from his manner of dress, there's not really a whole lot that's consistant with the look of the other iterations of Dante.

I AM HAPPY WITH THE REBOOT. D:

First of all, his appearance fits the timeline. He watched his mother be killed by demons when he was only 8, and he thought his brother met the same fate as well. He then has to grow up on his own, in FEAR. Apparently, he's also been tortured by some unknown government-like entity. Forgive the dude for not being a happy little ray of sunshine as a teenager. You can also see a splotch of white on the top of his haid... I'm willing to bet his hair will be all white by the end of the game. So far, stylistically he's still the same Dante.

Also, the whole "smoking" issue. It's pretty lame that Kamiya's initial design (who btw, never came up with the DMC3 or DMC4 Dante) just had Dante be so deadset against smoking for no apparent reason except "it's bad, kidz" (it just feels a bit hypocritical considering he kills demons for a living). Perhaps the reboot will shed light on how he comes to loath the whole schbang.
On a side note, I think it's clever they named the city Limbo. :p

I'm glad Capcom's finally had the balls to announce that DmC is cannon.

Dammit, I think this is the longest post I've ever made on the Escapist.

This doesn't seem like a bad game actually. It might have been better though if they didn't actually try to convince people that the redesign was Dante, they would have been better off unveiling him as a new character and have Dante as some kind of teacher or guide. We will have to wait and see I guess. I'll get the game when I see it at a reasonable price, but I won't exactly be stamping over people to get a copy.
